“Never Kevin” Reps Will Screw It Up For All Of Us

Today is the day. Today, is the day Republicans take the Speaker’s gavel in the House of Representatives. That is, unless, and it’s a big UNLESS, a group of “Never Kevin” Republicans screw it up for all of us. They don’t want Kevin McCarthy. Look, I get it. I despise everything about him. Including and especially his relationship with Frank Luntz who famously gives horrible advice to Republicans. But, I respect the work McCarthy has done.

Yesterday, Victory Girl’s own Deanna wrote about the compromises that Kevin McCarthy had worked to assuage the “Never Kevin” dupes. Kevin will initiate a “vacate the chair” rule, include the Holman rule, and establish 72 hours to read any proposed law. That’s a good start. From there, Republicans can build their caucus with legislative successes, build the party and take back America from the America hating Democrats. That’s the goal. Save our Republic from Democracy.

Bob Good (R-VA) will begin his second term in Congress and appears to be a leader of the “Never Kevin” group. Yesterday, Good had a conversation with Griff Jenkins from Fox News. Here is a portion of it from Real Clear Politics:

GRIFF JENKINS, FOX NEWS: Congressman, you wrote in an op-ed that you speaker who will pursue a true conservative policy agenda. If it’s not Kevin, who would you vote for?

REP. BOB GOOD: What we will do is block Kevin. I suspect there will be 10 to 15 members who will vote against him on the first ballot tomorrow. That will vote for Andy Biggs. But then I think you will see on the second ballot, an increasing number of members vote for a true candidate who can represent the conservative conference and can motivate the base, and can inspire Republicans across the country, get 218 votes to bring Congress together to fight against the radical Democrat agenda, the most extreme agenda we’ve ever seen.

GRIFF JENKINS, FOX NEWS: Let me stop you there. Who is that name? Here we are in the 11th hour. There are no names. Give me a name. It’s not Andy Biggs. Andy Biggs isn’t going to win.

REP. BOB GOOD: I’m going to resist for a few more hours what I have resisted the last several weeks. As you know, if we were to put forth a name right now or over the last few weeks that person would have suffered all of the attacks and retaliation.

Oh, son of a motherless goat. What the H-E-Double Hockey Sticks is wrong with these people. And, guess who the candidate is?

Okay, Lee Zeldin was a rock star in the impeachments of Donald Trump, he articulates the Conservative positions well, and he dragged many Republicans over the finish line in his own ill-fated New York gubernatorial run. But, dagnabit son, that’s as cattywampus as nominating Donald Trump for Speaker. Ain’t happening.

Rachel Maddow has her knickers in a knot that a Speaker won’t be elected and there won’t be a Congress:

Not having a Congress wouldn’t bother me psychically. It’s bad for the Republican Party. Hakeem Jeffries is the bigger worry. I agree with Eagle Eye Flyer:

So here is the deal Republican idiot. Get your shite together and Vote for Kevin McCarthy. If he makes you unhappy, vote him out. “Vacate the Chair”.

What we do not need is the “Never Kevin” caucus screwing it up for all of us. Thank you.

It’ll happen today. McCarthy will be selected as the next Speaker of the House. The media (both conservative and liberal outlets) love to play up the impending doom card to keep us on the edge of our seats. They do that to keep us ginned up fighting one another; screaming and spewing “worst case scenarios” and blaming the other side for the debacle. It gets them high ratings. Political junkies will be glued to their default news source today holding their breath to see what happens. He may have to give away his soul to become Speaker, but he’ll get enough members present to support him on the first round of voting. Pelosi didn’t get 218 votes but she did get a majority of those present. The republicans who don’t support him will not show up to vote. The same will happen to McCarthy.

His problem is not going to be being elected as Speaker, his problem will be trying to cajole, appease, and seduce the fringes of his party to get on the boat and support a republican agenda (whatever that is). Being against the democrats is the easy part … being in favor and supporting legislation, a budget, or other republican agenda items (again, whatever those are) will be the difficult part. Despise Pelosi all you want, but you have to give her credit for moving the demonic democratic agenda through the House.

If only Republican leaders had tried harder to get Republicans elected, they wouldn’t be in this mess. I can’t fault the Never Kevins. The governance game is rigged through and through.

    Thank you, Toni. If only the holdouts would heed the words of President Reagan;

“The person who agrees with you 80 percent of the time is a friend and an ally – not a 20 percent traitor.“

    • GWB says:

That’s only true if the 20% of the time they aren’t supporting and aiding the people who spend 100% of their effort destroying the things you hold dear. Someone who stabs you in the back even once is NOT a friend and ally, ever.

Sorry, but the kind of votes we’re talking about aren’t ones where compromise is acceptable. They are votes to destroy our Republic and bring about a Progressive utopia. So, even 20% is unacceptable.

(Also, look where the 20% got us. Look at where the Overton Window is because we compromised with the Progressives in the 40 years since Reagan was elected.)

The enemy of my enemy, if not my OVERT and OUTSPOKEN Friend, is ALSO MY ENEMY.

If being my friend gets you in-dutch with your other ‘friends’ then tie a pork chop around your neck because THAT IS YOUR F’ING DOG.

Now, there you go, Toni, with that kind of stupid snark. There is a real problem with electing McCarthy, and you should dang well know it. Actually fighting for real conservative or constitutional principles is vital to restoring our Republic. Keeping Republicans in power if they aren’t going to do that is not. There has to be real threat of consequences to the establishment – that they will lose ALL of their power, including that enviable “loyal opposition” one – if we want to have them uphold those things we hold dear and that are the pillars of our Republic.

    • Bucky says:

Yes, once again conservatives are told to hold their noses and vote for the usual suspects to continue to run the party into the ground. Doing the same thing time after time and expecting a different result id insanity defined.

  • Joe R. says:

    Simple policy:
I WILL NOT PAY TO RAISE UP AN ARMY AGAINST MYSELF.

    F’em.
    You don’t reward POS.

And the POS’s that have been rewarded up until now are about to get theirs.
