All of Washington DC is abuzz today, because President Volodymyr Zelensky is coming to the White House to meet with Santa Joe Biden and ask for some Christmas presents. And by “Christmas presents,” I mean long-range missiles and lots and lots and lots of money.
This year, the role of Sally in “A Charlie Brown Christmas” will be played by Zelensky, who will be asking Santa Joe for “tens and twenties”… adding up to about $2 billion. And Santa Joe is planning on giving Zelensky what he’s asking for, with maybe a few tweaks to the missiles.
Biden will host Zelensky for an “extended bilateral” meeting, where the two leaders will discuss “the way ahead on the battlefield” against Russia, the official said.”
The visit comes as Zelensky and his top aides have warned that Russia is preparing to launch a massive ground invasion that could include a renewed push to conquer Kyiv.”
Alongside Zelensky, Biden will announce an additional $2 billion in assistance for Ukraine that will include Patriot Missile Batteries, which can help target ballistic and cruise missiles, as well as unmanned aircraft. The systems can generally operate with a maximum range of 100 miles, but the U.S. has handicapped other military systems provided to Ukraine in what it said was an effort to avoid further provoking Russia to escalate against the U.S.”
Putting the batteries into use “will take some time,” the official said, noting that the U.S. will train Ukrainian forces on how to operate them in a third country.”
“But Ukrainian troops will take that training back to their country to operate this battery and we will continue to prioritize other forms of air defense support as well.”
And then Zelensky will get a joint presser with Biden, and then address a joint session of Congress. It’s a win-win for Biden and Zelensky. Zelensky gets his Christmas wish list, and Biden gets the good press of having Zelensky to the White House and proclaiming that America is helping out Ukraine stand up against evil Putin and big bad Russia.
Except… is $2 billion and some missiles enough for Zelensky? After all, the United States has already spotted him $20 billion.
Zelensky headed to the US just hours after making a dangerous trip to what he called the hottest spot on the front line of the war, the city of Bakhmut, where he met with Ukrainian troops and awarded medals.”
In a video released by his office from what he dubbed “fortress Bakhmut,” Zelensky was handed a Ukrainian flag and hinted at planning to deliver it to US leaders.”
“The guys handed over our beautiful Ukrainian flag with their signatures for us to pass on,” Zelensky said in the video. “We are not in an easy situation. The enemy is increasing its army. Our people are braver and need more powerful weapons. We will pass it on from the boys to the Congress, to the president of the United States. We are grateful for their support, but it is not enough. It is a hint — it is not enough.”
“Hint hint, this isn’t enough” is PROBABLY not going to go over well with the American people who are dealing with supply chain shortages (have you tried to buy children’s Tylenol lately?) and inflation. Just a wild guess.
i am very pro-ukrainian determination against russian aggression.
i am very not into being told the money and equipment we have sent to ukraine is not enough after the american taxpayer has given so much for the cause.

At what point does a leader from either political party stop, look at all the zeros on the check, and think “how much longer can we keep funding what has essentially become a proxy war with Russia?” Unfortunately, it hasn’t happened yet, and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has NO problem blowing out the checkbook for Ukraine.
Some are starting to take issue with McConnell’s priorities.
Mitch McConnell actually said yesterday that most Republicans #1 priority is … Ukraine.
I have yet to meet a single Republican that thinks that, but I guess the disconnect between actual republicans and DC swamp rats shouldn’t surprise anyone.

But so long as Democrats continue to hold Congress and the White House, that money is as good as gone. Leader McCarthy, to his credit, is tired of the “blank check” being handed to Ukraine and has asked for accounting and oversight for that money. Which, honestly, is the BARE MINIMUM that the American public deserves.
But Joe Biden is determined to play Santa Claus for Volodymyr Zelensky, and it will ONLY cost the American taxpayer $2 billion more, plus whatever the missile system costs, to make some of his Christmas dreams come true. Hmmm, maybe Zelensky really isn’t Sally for Christmas. Maybe he’s the Christmas version of Veruca Salt – “I want a long range missile system NOW!” I guess we will have to wait and see what he says to everyone today.

Must wonder: Will the Z man wear his army green costume when he comes to beg/demand more $$ from Americans. Enough is enough…no more big bucks for Ukraine. And…Let’s have a complete accounting where all the US contributions to date have ended up.
Did Putin give you your talking points? Or should we only support democracy in other countries when it’s convenient for us or if it’s just certain countries? It sure seems like you’re getting talking points from Russia with the “big bad Russia” comment. Once upon a time Republicans cared about democracy, not just here, but everywhere. I guess that’s no longer the case.
As for the Tylenol shortage, maybe if you bothered to read the link you shared you’d see that the shortage is also because there’s a “tripledemic” with Covid, RSV, and the flu. Supply can’t keep up with demand. But I guess since you’re living in denial that people are still dying from Covid and viruses are especially rampant this year for a variety of reasons— not all of which support your talking points about masks, etc.—that information doesn’t fit your agenda. Not providing a full picture is obviously the MO here.
Dude, you might wanna consider Ritalin or Xanax.. It’s not hard to see where your talking points come from..
Congress’s first priority should be Americans. It’s that simple.
$2 Billion? That’s a rounding error.
What isn’t a rounding error is gas-lighting the American public into thinking that if we don’t give in to all his demands, the Russian juggernaut will roll and roll until the entire European continent is under his direct control. Zelensky says there is a massive ground invasion in preparation. Where? With what equipment and troops will Russia launch this massive invasion? Troops with 3-weeks training, no food, hardly any ammo, bad equipment that continues to break down, the Ukrainian/Russian winder dead ahead.
The truth is that Russia cannot punch their way out of a wet paper bag. More lies piled on top of the lies they’ve already piled on top of the original lies.
Ukraine is the money laundering capital of the world.
