“Sit up straight and mind your manners.” He might as well have said that. What Elon Musk actually told J.K. Rowling was to “posting interesting and positive content”. After what she has been through, Miss Rowling said that as a grown up lady of a certain age, she was not doing “as she was told.” Three cheers for Harry Potter’s birth mother who has been defending sex and sexuality for years.
Do you remember back in 2007 when J.K. Rowling outed Albus Dumbledore as gay?
Since Miss Rowling created the Harry Potter Wizarding World, she could make each character as she wished. She could make characters do as she wished because she is the creator of that world. There were people who were upset, but about what? She created the world. Here in the real world, Rowling doesn’t get to have that power. We live in a world of physics and science and stuff.
Although Rowling first spoke out about Trans issues in 2019, she first penned an essay on her site in 2020. “J.K. Rowling Writes about Her Reasons for Speaking out on Sex and Gender Issues” was her statement of beliefs. She wrote:
We’re living through the most misogynistic period I’ve experienced. Back in the 80s, I imagined that my future daughters, should I have any, would have it far better than I ever did, but between the backlash against feminism and a porn-saturated online culture, I believe things have got significantly worse for girls. Never have I seen women denigrated and dehumanised to the extent they are now. From the leader of the free world’s long history of sexual assault accusations and his proud boast of ‘grabbing them by the pussy’, to the incel (‘involuntarily celibate’) movement that rages against women who won’t give them sex, to the trans activists who declare that TERFs need punching and re-educating, men across the political spectrum seem to agree: women are asking for trouble. Everywhere, women are being told to shut up and sit down, or else.
The whole essay is fabulous. Except for the part about (unnamed) Donald Trump. Rowling has always been wrong about him. You can read about her wrongness here.
Way back in April, Rowling wrote a very long post on X (Twitter) about being a woman. She couldn’t have been trying to quiet the Transactivists because they don’t want to hear:
You’ve asked me several questions on this thread and accused me of avoiding answering, so here goes.
I believe a woman is a human being who belongs to the sex class that produces large gametes. It’s irrelevant whether or not her gametes have ever been fertilised, whether or not… pic.twitter.com/X6mbdJ0YVm

To which, Elon told J.K. Rowling to sit up straight and mind her manners:
While I heartily agree with your points regarding sex/gender, may I suggest also posting interesting and positive content on other matters?

Business Insider saw the Musk Response this way:
The X owner has also made controversial comments on transgender issues, vowing last year to start “actively lobbying to criminalize making severe, irreversible changes to children below the age of consent.”
Musk has a teenage daughter who is trans. Last year, she successfully petitioned a court to change her family name, telling a judge that she no longer wished to be related to her father “in any way, shape or form.”
Rowling has come under fire many times in recent years for her comments on transgender issues.
Actors who appeared in the “Harry Potter”films, including Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Eddie Redmayne, have spoken out about Rowling’s comments and supported transgender people.
Representatives for Musk and Rowling did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Business Insider, made outside normal working hours.
Need I remind everyone again, J.K. Rowling created the Harry Potter Wizarding World and she is a free woman, thoughts from the actors are worthless. Musk may be the Father of a Trans person, but he is still a free man.
Here a Male to Female Trans throws down on both Rowling and Musk:
Whoa, my Dude, talk about someone obsessed. Jessie Gender After Dark has no humor or self-awareness at all.
Rowling answered Musk saying that she was not doing as she was told:
Being told to sit still and mind her manners by a man is misogynistic. Ugh. I hate typing that because I don’t see Musk as a Misogynist. Hopefully, he just has a good sense of humor.

I definitely didn’t read what you seem to have in Mr. Musk’s tweet. I’m seeing a (literal) suggestion, from one celebrity in the progressive spotlight to another, to not define her social media identity exclusively in controversy – not him telling her to “sit up straight and mind her manners.”
Admittedly, I don’t know what Ms. Rowling means by claiming she is not “doing as [she’s] told” in this context. It could be in response to Musk’s tweet, but I don’t see the connection.
