Indian PM Speech Boycotted By The Squad

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortex, other Squad members and quite a few members of Congress boycotted a joint Congressional speech by Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. They are opposed to Modi’s treatment of Indian Minorities and political opponents . For real, the Congressweenies have no self-awareness or sense of irony. You cannot make this ish up.

The Indian Prime Minister, on this visit to the United States, will be feted with a vegetarian dinner at the White House tonight, Hunter will be there grifting, and held a joint press with Creepy Joe Biden today. We cannot let this moment pass without noting another Joe Biden cock up. First, DOCTOR Jill tries to force Joe to let go of Modi’s hand, he won’t and then she steers them:

My favorite bit was when Joe put his hand over his heart for the Indian National Anthem and does the slow move hoping no one will notice:

Okay, we’ve all kind of all done something like that, but it did take him about 5 seconds in to realize it. Back to our favorite sour puss sisters and their boycott of the Indian P.M.’s joint Congressional Address.

India is an important ally for the United States. She is a Democracy with about 1.4 billion people. While India does not want to be besties or formal allies with the U.S., there are important areas of mutual agreement that both countries can capitalize upon, such as nuclear cooperation, travel and economic issues. India is not a complete totalitarian nightmare like China or North Korea and can be led forward in human rights by the “power of our example”. The pucker face girls don’t want to hear that. From the New York Times:

Four of the protesting members released a statement Thursday condemning the address as “an embarrassing spectacle,” arguing that by giving Mr. Modi such a rare platform, “Congress undermines its ability to be a credible advocate for the rights of religious minorities and journalists around the world.”
“We must never sacrifice human rights at the altar of political expediency,” Representatives Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, Cori Bush of Missouri, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, and Jamaal Bowman of New York wrote in the joint statement. They called on other members of Congress to join their protest and “stand in solidarity with the communities that have been harmed by Modi and his policies.”
But while other lawmakers have acknowledged and even criticized Mr. Modi for promoting antidemocratic and Hindu nationalist policies, and criticized him for failing to condemn violent assaults against minority groups, they have recoiled at the idea of boycotting a visit from such an economically and strategically important U.S. ally.

“An embarrassing spectacle”? That’s rich, coming from the Queens of Embarrassing Spectacles. And coming from a group who hasn’t met a Palestinian terrorist they don’t want to coddle. Well, Narendra Modi gave his joint address and in the end only about three lawmakers boycotted the speech. The rest of the U.S. lawmakers treated him like a rock star with lots of standing ovations. The Indian P.M. entered to cheers of “Modi, Modi”.

Here are some of the details:

The largest round of applause came when the prime minister labeled the U.S. its “most important defense partner,” and received a standing ovation.
“When I speak about India’s approach to the world, the United States occupies a special place. I know our relations are of great importance to all of you. Every member of this Congress has a deep interest in it,” Modi said.

Like I said, India doesn’t want to be our bestie, but they won’t make us sit at the Loser Lunchtable. And from the Washington Times:

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the foundations of American democracy in an address to a joint meeting of Congress on Thursday, emphasizing the importance of the partnership between the world’s two biggest democracies on a day of summitry that mixed geopolitics and commercial opportunity.
“Together we shall give a better future to the world and a better world to the future,” Mr. Modi said to rousing bipartisan applause in remarks highlighting a state visit that many in Washington hope will foster closer U.S.-India coordination while countering an increasingly aggressive China.
The centerpiece of Mr. Modi’s four-day U.S. trip Thursday included talks and a rare press conference at the White House with President Biden, the speech to a joint meeting of Congress and a full-on state dinner for the visiting Indian leader back at the White House.

Mr. Modi made no explicit mention of China in his nearly hour-long speech to lawmakers, delivered in English on Thursday afternoon, although he signaled his agreement with U.S. concern over Beijing’s growing push for economic and political dominance over smaller nations of Asia and beyond.

India is rightly concerned to be concerned about China. After the speech, Modi signed autographs. True fact. Behold:

In the end, not only did the boycott not happen. The Squad got a smack down from an Indian lawmaker:

Maybe the Butthurt Sisters of the Squad need to sit down and be hushed.

They are opposed to Modi’s treatment of Indian Minorities and political opponents .
    IOW, he’s not communist enough.

    Is Joe getting worse?
Argument for him actually getting better. I wouldn’t have expected him to notice, at all.

She is a Democracy with about 1.4 billion people.
Democracy don’t mean much if the people vote for stupid.
India is a constitutional parliamentarian representative democracy – which makes her edge out China… barely.
India being a democracy is much less important than other aspects of that country’s foreign policy.

India doesn’t want to be our bestie
And that concept – of us all hugging and actually liking each other is part of where the post-WW2 Progressive Foggy Bottom foreign policy took a departure from reality. (Progressivism depart from reality? Say it isn’t so!) His speech, instead, puts in the proper relationship: partners because our interests align.

India is rightly concerned to be concerned about China.
Ummmm…. I giggled at that oddness.

US Congressmen surround PM Modi to take autographs and selfies with him
Fer cryin’ out loud. Fanboi-ing a foreign leader like he’s Taylor Swift? This is part of why our country is circling the bowl right now.

I’m not a fan of foreign leaders addressing Congress. I think it violates the separation of powers. And I think it makes Congress think they’re more important than they are. Foreign leaders should meet with the President (and executive branch ambassadors and Secretary of State). (Having said that, I can see how foreign leaders would do that – a parliamentary gov’t selects it’s executive based on the control of parliament, so he is actually tied directly to the legislature. We need to make the distinction that our gov’t is not that way.)
