If you’re a law-abiding resident of Illinois, have obtained a Firearm Owner’s Identity Card, and want to buy an AR-15 rifle for practice at the range, you’re out of luck. On Tuesday night the state banned the sale of such weapons. Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed House Bill 5471 into law just hours after the Illinois House passed it.
He was so proud:
“Today, we made history, becoming the ninth state to institute an assault weapons ban —and one of the strongest assault weapons bans in the nation. I’m grateful that people cared enough to get this done now.”
Not only does the new law ban the sale of assault-style weapons, it also caps the purchase of magazines at 10 rounds for long guns and 15 for handguns. However, current owners of such weapons can keep them, as long as they register them with the Illinois State Police by January, 2024.
The law came six months after a Fourth of July shooting in Highland Park, IL, a Chicago suburb north of the city. During the parade a shooter, identified as Robert Crimo III, used a Smith & Wesson M&P15 to fire into the crowd, killing seven and wounding 48, including some children.
If Pritzker thought this would be a slam dunk to put gun owners in their place, he thought wrong.
Sheriffs from various counties have said they will not enforce requirements that owners of “assault weapons” register them. Ed Sullivan, a lobbyist with the Illinois State Rifle Association, promised legal action. Plus, Richard Pearson, executive director of the ISRA, added that his group will join with the Second Amendment Foundation and the Firearms Policy Coalition to file a lawsuit. “We’re getting ready right now, actually,” he said.

These groups have precedence on their side, too. In July, 2022, in reference to a law in Colorado, a federal judge found that bans on AR-15s and other similar guns violate Second Amendment protections. U.S. District Judge Raymond Moore said:
“In its simplest terms, the Second and Fourteenth Amendments prohibit governments from preventing ‘law abiding citizens with ordinary self-defense needs from exercising their right to keep and bear arms.'”
Of course, anti-gun activist David Hogg was ecstatic, tweeting:
“BIG NEWS: Illinois just banned assault weapons!”
“Huge shout out to all the organizers from Highland Park and beyond that made this happen.”

Hawkins is right. Does anyone think these guys will register their weapons?
This is the firepower and conditions Chicago Police are up against.
And all they can do is watch them drive away if they don’t get shot at.

Would the new law have stopped the shootings of 43 children younger than 13 during the year 2021? Or the three-year-old, 11-year-old, and 14 year-old shot in a drive-by shooting last October? They were just three of 14 victims in that event. What about the Chicago mom who was shot and killed in front of her kids during a drive-by shooting in 2021? It was the day before her seven-year-old son’s birthday. Or the five-month-old baby girl who died in a drive-by shooting last summer?
Meanwhile, Pritzker’s fellow progressive Democrat (and George Soros beneficiary), Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx has been busy decriminalizing more crime in Chicago. Under her watch, Cook County has ended cash bail. Foxx also further burdened the Chicago Police Department by placing more restrictions on search warrants.
In effect, Foxx is openly undermining law and order in the city.
As Chicago cop and writer Martin Prieb wrote in Chicago Contrarian:
“Come election time, the progressives who destroyed American cities will harvest enough votes either legally or illegally from these municipalities to maintain control of the entire county and state. This is what Soros-backed prosecutors are doing throughout the country, a campaign led by Foxx.”
“More than any other city in the nation, Foxx’s Chicago is emblematic of the one-party system progressives seek to impose throughout the country.”
As a result, more black and brown children will die at the hands of criminals in Illinois’s biggest city. Maybe the only kids who count for J.B. Pritzker and Co. are those who live in predominantly white, affluent suburbs like Highland Park.

The basic headache with the Liberal Democrat agenda is that Conservatives are not challenging it with enough news coverage to get pass the Liberal Democrat media. If the Republican Congress wants to succeed, we must throw enough money at advertising to get people’s attention. Those committees can have all the hearings they want, but if the news media ignores them most people will remain IGNORANT.
Cameron says: Democrats advocate for separation of church and state but they never stop forcing their religious views on normal people. Such as how this ban will somehow magically make criminals behave.
Scott says: And until the address the fact that a very small subset of the American population commits the vast majority of crime in this nation, and that it falls into a very specific demographic…..
Cameron says: There’s only a 13% chance that will happen. -:-)
