The negotiated cease-fire between Hamas and Israel lasted for 5 hours. This was a cease-fire that was brokered in order to give Palestinian civilians to shop for food and supplies. But once that time was up, Hamas had no problem going back to war.
But the streets emptied out quickly after the cease-fire expired, with Palestinian militants firing more than 50 rockets at Israel, including a heavy salvo toward the Tel Aviv area that sent people running for cover, the Israeli military said. The military said a rocket fired from Gaza struck the city of Ashkelon at precisely 3 p.m. local time (8 a.m. ET) as the pause in military activity ended. No injuries were reported.
Israel responded with a wave of eight airstrikes, including one that killed two boys and a girl ages 8 to 10 from the same family in Gaza City, Gaza Health Ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Kidra said.
And to top it off, the U.N. was shocked, SHOCKED, to discover missiles in one of their abandoned schools in the Gaza Strip.
“Yesterday, in the course of the regular inspection of its premises, UNRWA discovered approximately 20 rockets hidden in a vacant school in the Gaza Strip,” the agency said. ” UNRWA strongly condemns the group or groups responsible for placing the weapons in one of its installations,” it continued. This is a flagrant violation of the inviolability of its premises under international law.”
Israel has had enough, and the ground offensive is going to begin.
BREAKING NEWS: A large IDF force has just launched a ground operation in the Gaza Strip. A new phase of Operation Protective Edge has begun.
