Two Chinese nationals who are students at The University of Michigan are now in custody for allegedly smuggling a “dangerous biological pathogen” to study in a lab.

Time for a crackdown, perhaps?

Research fellow Yunqing Jian and her boyfriend, Zunyong Liu – both citizens of the People’s Republic of China – have been charged in a criminal complaint with conspiracy, smuggling goods into the United States, false statements, and visa fraud. What did they smuggle in, you ask? A deadly fungus called Fusarium graminearum. The fungus, if allowed to breed, can infect wheat and grain crops and is deadly when consumed.

Fusarium head blight, a disease caused by the Fusarium graminearum strain, is considered “the most economically important wheat disease in the U.S. and Canada“. What can it do to humans? Think vomiting, liver damage and reproductive issues in people and animals that eat infected grains.

New U.S. policy: If you’re Chinese, talented, and studying something important — you’re a threat.
Because nothing says “confidence” like banning students.

It wasn’t bad enough that the Chinese were studying a virus in one of their own labs that leaked and made its way to The U.S.? It wasn’t bad enough the WuFlu did kill people, brought our work force and crippled our economy? Now, they have to bring the fungus here? I understand the point of scientific research, I really do, but either these two are highly flakey and irresponsible twits or they knew exactly what they are doing. Either way, it’s dangerous. And, it is not the students that bring the element of fear, here but “the most economically important wheat disease in the U.S. and Canada”. Sure. Why not bring it into the U.S.?

I don’t know about you but I sure as hell don’t want liver damage from eating a bowl of cereal. There’s Tequila for that, Sis. On a more serious note, taking a pair of individuals from a Communist country into custody for visa fraud and, oh yeah, smuggling a deadly fungus into our country that could obliterate wheat crops-is not fascist. These people are flat-out delusional in their musings.

According to the criminal complaint, Jian, 33, allegedly received Chinese government funding for her work on the pathogen in China.

Federal prosecutors say Jian’s electronics contain information “describing her membership in and loyalty to the Chinese Communist Party.”

Liu, 34, allegedly works at a Chinese university where he conducts research on the same pathogen, according to the complaint. Federal prosecutors say “he first lied” but then admitted to smuggling Fusarium graminearum into the United States through the Detroit Metropolitan Airport. His alleged goal was to conduct research on the pathogen at the laboratory at the University of Michigan where his girlfriend, Jian, worked, according to court documents.”-Danielle Wallace, Fox News

But we can’t be those people. You know the ones. The racists, the bigots, kicking people out of our country. We can’t be the ones. The ones who are just a tad skeptical and cynical after a leak from a Chinese lab. We don’t want any fungus, thanks. This makes us fascist. We need to let them bring in the biological pathogens. We need to let them do their research because they’re so smart and we couldn’t possibly trust our American counterparts to do the same. (Side note: who could blame the universities? Our K-12 system is crap.) And, we also need to choose them, not a hardworking American, to speak at our Ivy League commencements on “Our Humanity”.

Please pay attention to the screenshot from the videos. Look at Yurong "Luanna" Jiang's body language with clenched fists, completely resembling a "warrior."

Clearly, she was representing the CCP in engaging in the on-site battle with the protesters.

In the name of “shared humanity”, we need to let these students do their work. We need to leave these crazy kids alone. Let them mess around with fungus in a lab on an expired visa. It’s all for humanity.
