Chris Christie & Mike Huckabee Fail to Qualify for Main Stage

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, and former Governor of Arkansas Mike Huckabee, have been sent to the proverbial kid’s table. The move to the undercard debate is seen as a rather large blow to their campaigns. However, their presidential aspirations could have been shaken worse, considering George Pataki and Lindsey Graham have been completely booted from the debates. Christie and Huckabee are embracing the move as an opportunity to show their faithful following they can remain positive.

George Pataki was, understandably, not thrilled.

Lindsey Graham didn’t tweet out his opinion, but his campaign manager had a few words concerning the boot off the stage they received.

“It is ironic that the only veteran in the race is going to be denied a voice the day before Veterans Day,” Graham campaign manager Christian Ferry said in a statement on behalf of the South Carolina senator. “In the end, the biggest loser tonight is the American people and the Republican presidential primary process that has been hijacked by news outlets.”

On a positive note, the debate, hosted by Fox Business Network, will be a bit less crowded. Eight is still too many for a two hour debate, in my humble opinion, but it’s a start.

Then lineup for the main stage debate will be Donald J. Trump, Ben Carson, Senator Marco Rubio of Florida, Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, Jeb Bush, Carly Fiorina, Gov. John R. Kasich of Ohio and Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky.

To qualify for the prime-time debate based on the network’s criteria, candidates needed to score at least 2.5 percent or higher in an average of the four most recent national polls through Nov. 4. Those below the 2.5 percent average in the polls could qualify for the so-called undercard debate, as long as they hit at least 1 percent in at least one of the four most recent national polls.

Huckabee’s stagnation in the polls comes as no surprise to the vast majority of people. However, Christie was scored a middle of the line winner after the last debate. Christie had a few strong statements, including the following:

“We have $19 trillion in debt, we have people out of work, we have ISIS and Al-Qaeda attacking us, and we’re talking about fantasy football? How about we get the government to do what we’re supposed to be doing?”

Now, as painful as this might be for many, including the supporters of all candidates involved in the move, it needed to be done. The overcrowded stage is making the debates impossible to watch. Unfortunately, we all have our opinions on who should be on which stage, as well as who shouldn’t, but hopefully each top tier candidate will now have more time to articulate their positions.

It’s surprising to see Christie booted off the stage while a less known candidate like Kasich remains. My sincere hope is that candidates begin to do what is right and bow out gracefully so that the overcrowded field can be reduced. We’re all growing tired of the crowded debates, and with only three remaining before the Iowa caucuses, we’d all like to see the field narrowed down.

Tell us what you think! Was your favorite candidate moved? Do you still plan to watch?
