The Democrats have come to a consensus – Joe Biden is unpopular, old, and on his way out the door.
This means that they have to start looking actively for a new figurehead for the Democrats. Hilariously, that same consensus is skipping RIGHT over Kamala Harris. The media is currently eyeing up Pete Buttigieg, the former mayor of South Bend, Indiana, who got a job with the Biden administration as Secretary of Transportation solely because he is a gay leftist who comes across well on camera. As the last several months have shown us, Buttigieg didn’t get the job as Secretary of Transportation for his stellar skills in actually managing his own department.
Well, Buttigieg has the same problem that all the other Democrats do. He might come across well on camera, but he is a radical leftist who isn’t worried about pushing an extreme agenda to satisfy those same radicals in the base. The most recent examples all have to do with Buttigieg’s belief that if the peasants WOULD JUST EAT THE DAMN CAKE, EVERYONE WOULD BE MUCH BETTER OFF. Or, in other words, just go buy an electric car.
Buttigieg testified before the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee on the transition to “domestic clean energy production” by the Biden administration, which launched an initiative to ensure 50% of all auto sales are electric vehicles by 2030.”
The topic soon turned to gas prices, which reached record levels in June. House Republicans questioned Buttigieg on how Americans struggling to pay $5 per gallon for gas could afford to purchase an electric vehicle.”
Buttigieg then reiterated that the “pain” at the pump could be offset by using an electric vehicle.”
“The more pain we are all experiencing from the high price of gas, the more benefit there is for those who can access electric vehicle,” Buttigieg said.”
“So you’re saying the more pain we have, the more benefit we’re gonna get?” Rep. Carlos Gimenez, R-Fla., asked. “I think that’s what I heard you say.”
Buttigieg emphasized, “Of course – no, no, that’s what you heard me say. I know you want me to say it so bad but honestly, sir, what we’re saying is we could have no pain at all by making EVs cheaper for everyone.”
And Buttigieg’s way of making it cheaper for everyone! Have GOVERNMENT subsidize it! What could possibly go wrong? After all, the government just prints the money, and then BAM! there it is!
“Are EVs cheaper by subsidizing them?” Gimenez asked, to which Buttigieg responded, “Yes, that’s part of it.”
“Yeah, but that doesn’t make it cheaper,” the congressman said. “We’re all paying for it at the end. We’re all paying taxes.”
This is something that Buttigieg seems incapable of understanding. The government makes no money of its own, it only TAKES ours. Democrats see taxpayer dollars as their own slush fund to do with as they please, so that means electric cars should be subsidized! No, they haven’t thought about the electrical grid, what about it?

And what’s all this about electric cars being expensive? Buttigieg looked it up – why are people complaining about prices? He found cars that are TOTALLY affordable!

So, per the “brilliant” Secretary of Transportation – spend $26,595 on a electric vehicle (a Chevy Bolt in this case), then you have to actually charge it. Electricity isn’t free, so you’re paying for that, too, PLUS the wait time. Apparently a Chevy Bolt can be charged with a basic 3-prong outlet (Level 1 charging), but it means that 12 hours of charging will only give you enough battery life for 48 miles. Want faster charging? You’ll need to install a 240-volt appliance outlet at home. That will run you about $300 on average – IF your electrical panel can support the installation. If it can’t, then you’re looking at additional home electrical upgrades (ka-CHING!) all for the privilege of charging your Chevy Bolt up to full in nine and a half hours (Level 2 charging, about 25 miles of battery life per hour). Wow, this sounds like a TOTAL saving in time and money, doesn’t it?
And then Pete Buttigieg, the potential new hope for the Democrats once they convince Jill Biden that Joe isn’t capable of running for president in 2024, has the nerve and stupidity to wonder aloud why people aren’t rushing to accept the magic that is electric vehicles. Why are the peasants still bitterly clinging to their gasoline???
There is no explaining this to Buttigieg. He is a committed true believer, and the peasants are SUPPOSED to feel the pain of their “glorious transition” to green energy. That’s a feature, not a bug. The important people like Pete Buttigieg will still have access to all the things that they need, because THEY are IMPORTANT. You? You go take out a loan for that Chevy Bolt and then sit down for 12 hours waiting for it to charge enough to go 48 miles. The left calls this “progress.” You will eat that cake and LIKE IT. And if you don’t agree, then you just want everyone to die of climate change.

My Ford Focus can make the 450 mile round trip to Minneapolis and back, in 7 hours, counting a 20 minute stop for a burger at Wendy’s into the total, on less than a full tank of gas. Ten minutes at the fuel pump at Kwik Trip, and it’s ready to do it again.
If you’re happy with your Focus, I fully support your choice in vehicle.
However, the ability to make a 7-hour, 450-mile round trip on a tank of gas isn’t the prime motivator in many people’s automobile choices. I try to enjoy driving, thus, I drive something I can enjoy. Others require their personal vehicles for work and play. How many 2x4s or dirt bikes fit in the back of a Prius?
Electric vehicles might someday supplant gas-powered ones (hey, nuclear industry, get your ass in gear) – and hybrids are a more feasible segue than some executive moratorium on gasoline, but the math and tech have yet to favor them environmentally, fiscally, or socially.
I don’t think most people even ponder the 7-hour/450-mile trip. But mostly because our current transportation options make that trip something you don’t have to think about. Other than to make sure your car is gassed up before the trip.
No one says “Oh, honey, we can’t go visit Grandma this weekend. The car isn’t full of gas, and we won’t be able to get back home.” Heck, even in the days before ubiquitous fuel stations, hardly anyone said that. They loaded full gas cans on the back of their Model A and off they went. They planned for it, but it wasn’t an impenetrable obstacle. And, even if they did run out of gas, they walked to a place where they could fill a couple of those cans, then went back and filled up their vehicle. Who’s gonna drag an extension cord 5 miles?
The man was placed in that job only because of his sexual preference. He’s learning that being gay is not enough to solve the problems.

That is actually a negligible cost when included with the cost of the vehicle. However, it will cost you more for the extra long cord so you can charge your vehicle in your driveway. Because, due to the possibility of fire or explosion, you’re not supposed to park your car in the garage or right next to the house.

He’s also wealthy enough that these “adjustments” don’t impact him. He doesn’t have to worry about buying his first car as a high school student. He isn’t scrounging for a used vehicle because his last one finally gave up the ghost.

BTW, 48 miles is ok – IFF you live in an urban setting. It is NOT enough if you live in a metropolitan suburbia. It is only 12.7 miles to my church, so I can easily attend Sunday services. Of course, we go out to eat after church (well, until inflation takes too big of a bite), and that sometimes requires driving several more miles – making a total of 34 miles just to get to one of our favorite restaurants. And coming home afterward? Makes a total round trip of 53 miles. Oops. Guess I’m walking the last few miles. And that assumes the 48 mile distance is not optimum, but includes running the radio and the air conditioning and the lights. 48 miles left in a tank of gas is definitely not optimum, though it is above the point where your “low gas” light comes on. (BTW, my old commute was 30 miles each way. A minimum of 2 gallons of gas in the tank.)
I’m not actually opposed to electric vehicles. I’m opposed to mandates, subsidies, and bullcarp being shoveled at me as if I’m a thunderingly ignorant slope-foreheaded peasant. I’m probably better educated than Butty, and am an engineer with experience in “transportation” (and re-fueling). And all of the progressive utopia carp is based on a non-scarce energy source – which does not currently exist. But they just assume it will, and then everything will be hunky-dory and we’ll all evolve to just a consciousness contemplating our non-existent navels.
