Brace Yourselves: Gun Control is Coming

We can’t say we haven’t been warned. The Democrats promised to put a priority on gun control this legislative session, and that’s exactly what they’ve done. This should give you a clue about where their priorities really lie – depriving you of your constitutionally guaranteed rights.

Mediots are reporting that the Democrats introduced bipartisan legislation – and by “bipartisan,” they mean with the support of five RINOs who don’t appear to understand the meaning of “shall not be infringed” – to conduct background checks on all firearm purchases.

Involved in this fuckery is, of course, Gabrielle Giffords, who was shot in the head by a lunatic named Jared Loughner in 2011 after he legally purchased a Glock at a sporting goods store and underwent a background check, making this particular effort irrelevant as far as this shooting is concerned.

I will say, my sympathy for Giffords and that hypocritical ass canoe of a husband of hers, who are using her tragedy to push efforts to relieve us of our rights, has run out a long time ago. Giffords’ victim status does not give her moral authority to impose her diktats on people who DIDN’T commit the crime. But she’s sure a convenient tool for gun grabbers to use in their long-desired push to degrade our fundamental rights.

Giffords, who co-founded a gun safety group with her husband, Mark Kelly, said in a statement Friday she was thrilled that her former House colleagues were responding to a gun-violence epidemic that killed nearly 40,000 people in 2017.

The bill expanding background checks “marks a critical first step toward strengthening America’s gun laws and making our country a safer place to live, work, study, worship and play,” Giffords said. “I stand ready to do everything in my power to get this legislation across the finish line.”

Thanks a pantsload, mediots.

First, you lie about bipartisan support for this travesty. Five RINOs do not bipartisan make.

And now you claim Giffords’ gun control group is somehow about “safety.”

Safety? Just whom do they think they’re fooling here? Americans for Responsible Solutions is another Brady Center, using the victim of a madman and lies to promote a tyrannical agenda.

Here’s a screen cap of the polls PolitiFact cited in 2017, when rating the claim that 90 percent of Americans support “universal” background checks as “true.”

Know what words are missing from these polls? “Private sales.”

Pew Research actually did ask a question about background checks for private gun sales, but sloppily combined it with a question about gun shows, which still doesn’t give us the clues we see about how many Americans support background checks on private sales.

Combining questions about background checks at gun shows and from private sellers is disingenuous. Background checks are already mandated at gun shows. Just ask any of the dozens of ATF agents roaming around any gun show, monitoring for compliance. If you are an FFL, you will conduct a background check, and you will do your due diligence, as my husband found out a few years ago when he tried to purchase a firearm at a gun show using a drivers’ license that had his old address on it, shortly after we moved. The answer was “Nope. Sorry. Bring back a utility bill or something with your current address on it.”

And frankly, I couldn’t give a rat’s hairy ass about the number of Americans who support background checks on private gun sales, because we live in a Constitutional Republic for a reason, and my rights aren’t subject to their whims.

But wait… there’s more!

Then there’s the little matter of the fact that most gun crimes in this country are committed with firearms that are illegally obtained. Even PolitiFact, as much as it tried to spin and twist and mitigate their ruling with a “mostly true” rating, had to admit that this is a fact.

So, background checks will do exactly dick to stop crimes committed with firearms, and yet Giffords and her hypocrite husband Mark Kelly – who claimed it was ridiculously easy to purchase an “assault” weapon in this country after he was caught buying one, and was initially turned down because of a discrepancy on his driver’s license, and then was denied the purchase outright during the 20-day waiting period because he tried to politicize the buy – are pushing this ineffective legislation for what? To control what you sell and buy and ultimately infringe on not just your gun rights but your property rights as well.

This isn’t about safety. This is about control.

Banning private gun sales wouldn’t have stopped Jared Loughner from committing mass murder, so introducing this bag of ridiculous fug on the anniversary of the shooting serves only one purpose: to rile emotions in support of this bill.

And this is control that will largely impact people who need a tool of self defense the most. The poor.

A background check means that private sales will essentially be outlawed, because every purchase will have to go through an FFL, which will jack up the price of the tool, and if the location happens not to be friendly to gun owners and has a limited number of FFLs, well your waiting time to purchase the gun just went up as well.

Poor people don’t live in gated communities and don’t have security guards. Poor people must rely only on themselves to protect their loved ones and their property. Making it more costly to purchase a tool of self defense will disproportionately affect those who live in not-so-nice neighborhoods.

Why do Democrats hate the poor?

This background check travesty will do one thing: criminalize free value-for-value exchanges between individuals and do nothing to prevent violence.

I wonder (doing real research) if you asked about buying cars, how many Americans would unintentionally exclude private sales when they considered that topic, too. Or cell phones. There are quite a few things we envision as primarily an interaction with an “authorized dealer” but probably have quite a sizable private market. (Not all of them legal.)

as my husband found out a few years ago
I got something similar at a gun store, once. The state allowed mailing addresses on DLs at one time, and that was what I had on mine. The issue came up (I don’t remember how) and I was told that – despite that being my address for numerous legal purposes – I had to come back with proof of my physical address. It degenerated as the store demonstrated a lack of common sense about a couple of things, and I took my business elsewhere in the end. But yes, it isn’t as easy to buy a gun as the progressives make it out to be.

And frankly, I couldn’t give a rat’s hairy ass about the number of Americans who support background checks on private gun sales, because we live in a Constitutional Republic for a reason, and my rights aren’t subject to their whims.
    DING, DING, DING!
Go back and add this to the beginning and the end of your post, Marta, because THIS is the most important thing of all!
And, of course, you even they don’t believe those polls. If they did, we would have already had the amendment through Congress and it would be breezing through the state legislatures right now, being approved in rapid fashion. IF that much of the electorate really supported those changes.

This isn’t about safety. This is about control.
Heck put THAT one at the top and bottom of the post, too. ‘Cause it’s the essence of all the progs do.

your waiting time to purchase the gun just went up as well.
Also, if you don’t have a car, and have to go cross-town to even find a FFL, then once you buy the gun… in those sorts of places you likely can’t carry the thing on the bus to go back home! (And, if you hide it in your shopping bag, you are now carrying concealed, and those sorts of places frown upon the non-elite doing so – and you’re doubly screwed.) One more way The Man is keeping the poor folk down.

Excellent post, Marta (other than that fixed boo-boo).

what about background check for the criminals that break into your vehicle to steal your gun. Oh, nope. my fault. keep pushing limits on the right affirmed by the 2nd amendment. I will start pushing limits on media of the 1st. no more picking and choosing which gun uses you report. All or NONE.
