Black Lives Matter Protestors Disrupt Hillary Clinton Rally

Hillary Clinton had a busy day in Atlanta, GA yesterday with two planned events on her schedule. Both were designed to launch her “African Americans for Hillary” group. Her first stop was a luncheon with local and regional clergy, Reverend Frederick Haynes, and some guy named Jesse Jackson.

Alrighty then! If she has the great Rev. Jesse Jackson Sr. marching along side her, then everything’s going to be gravy right?? It must’ve been very gratifying to have all their endorsements in her pocket as Hillary headed over to the public rally.

The highlight of her first public visit to Atlanta this campaign was to announce her criminal justice proposals, but the under-card was to be Clinton highlighting the endorsements of Lewis and other influential black leaders who had switched their support from her to Barack Obama in 2008.

Other influential leaders rallying to her side included former NBA player Grant Hill, Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, media guru Karen Civil, and Grammy nominated R&B singer Kelly Price. With Congressman John Lewis (D-GA) introducing her, its an absolute certainty that people are just waiting to hear all about Hillary’s great plan for reforming the criminal justice system… right?

Not. So. Fast. As soon as Hillary starting speaking, the rally took an interesting and lively twist.

Protestors from the Black Lives Matter movement showed up and effectively drowned Hillary out.

It seems that they don’t believe that Hillary truly is concerned about their lives.

According to a transcript of Clinton’s remarks released by her campaign, the candidate was interrupted at one point by audience members saying, “Black lives matter.”

“And yes, they do,” Clinton responded. “Yes, they do. Yes, they do, and I’m going to talk a lot about that in a minute.”

It took about 10 minutes for the protestors to calm down. In fact, they shrugged off  Congressman Lewis and others pleas to stop and listen.

For all of Hillary’s private meetings with the Black Lives Matter activists around the country, for all her endorsements from people like Jesse Jackson, Grant Hill, and others…it seems there’s still a very disenfranchised section of voters who are highly skeptical of Hillary’s motives.

“We don’t want to hear the rhetoric. We know the severity of the economic disparity. She’s calling it out like it’s news to us,” said Avery Jackson, a Morehouse College junior. “She’s using rhetoric to cover up the issues that are really at hand. We want her to push back harder.”

Hillary definitely has an image problem. Why else would she be tweeting shade after the CNBC GOP debate? Why else would her campaign, as Amy Miller at Legal Insurrection discovered, advocate Hillary costumes for Halloween? I kid you not.

Yesterday, it became evident that a key group of the supposed Dem voting block, called the AUC Shut It Down Coalition, isn’t so thrilled with Hillary or her rhetoric.

Another protest organizer, Spelman College senior Shiranthi Goonathilaka, said many students were disappointed that Clinton chose to deliver a “lecture” to the students rather than a town hall meeting or another type of discussion.

“We are not satisfied with what Hillary has offered black people in America,” she said. “Prominent black leaders, and a lot of them are based in Atlanta, are just OK with what Hillary is giving us. But we want more from her than what other leaders are expecting and willing to take.”

Others with the coalition were more blunt as highlighted by commentary posted on the coalition’s Twitter account.

The account subsequently posted a number of videos with people on the scene. In one video, a man says, “We’re not going to allow for Hillary to come here and have a cookie-cutter black conversation and to exploit … black production for her vote.”

Ouch. Hillary, it seems that many of your would-be supporters don’t believe in you or your campaign slogan “Fighting For Us” as evidenced by their planned disruption of your Woohoo! Look at Me! rally. So what are you going to do about it? Oh yeah, that’s right. You’ll just shrug your shoulders and shrilly proclaim once again, “What difference does it make?”
