Cuba is no longer on the terrorism list. Why? According to Joe Biden it’s because they haven’t committed terrorism in the last six months.
President Joe Biden notified Congress of his intent to lift the U.S. designation of Cuba as a state sponsor of terrorism, the White House announced, as part of a deal facilitated by the Catholic Church to free political prisoners on the island.
Senior U.S. administration officials, who previewed the announcement on the condition of anonymity, said ”many dozens” of political prisoners and others considered by the U.S. to be unjustly detained would be released by the end of the Biden administration at noon on Jan. 20.
The U.S. would also ease some economic pressure on Cuba, as well as a 2017 memorandum issued by then-President Donald Trump toughening U.S. posture toward Cuba.
Are we absolutely certain that Cuba hasn’t been involved in terror activities in any way shape or form? I’m not talking just people, I’m talking training, money, spying, and other channels of support. Given how the State Department has rolled these last four years, such as claiming that the pullout from Afghanistan was a success, are we supposed to believe them when they insist Cuba isn’t involved in terrorism anymore so sanctions should be lifted? REALLY?

Supposedly this move will reunify Cuban families and strengthen the educational and cultural ties between the U.S. and Cuba.
In that spirit, we are taking several steps to support the Cuban people as part of an understanding with the Catholic Church under the leadership of Pope Francis and improve the livelihood of Cubans. First, today we notified Congress that President Biden determined Cuba should no longer be designated as a State Sponsor of Terrorism. Secondly, we notified Congress that the President issued a waiver for Title III of the Helms-Burton Act, otherwise known as the Libertad Act, for a period of six months. Finally, President Biden rescinded the 2017 National Security Presidential Memorandum 5 on Cuba policy to eliminate the so-called “restricted list” and by extension the additional regulations on engagement by U.S. persons and entities with Cuban persons and entities, beyond that which is currently prescribed in U.S. legislation. We have also been informed by the Catholic Church that the Cuban government will soon begin releasing a substantial number of political prisoners.
In taking these steps to bolster the ongoing dialogue between the government of Cuba and the Catholic Church, President Biden is also honoring the wisdom and counsel that has been provided to him by many world leaders, especially in Latin America, who have encouraged him to take these actions, on how best to advance the human rights of the Cuban people. We take these steps in appreciation of the Catholic Church’s efforts to facilitate Cuba to take its own, constructive measures to restore liberty to its citizens and enable conditions that improve the livelihood of Cubans.
Exactly WHICH Latin American leaders are we talking about? Because Cuba has always supported Venezuela’s Nicolas Maduro, and is a long-time fan of Columbia. Furthermore, Cuba is a supporter of Hamas and Hezbollah, as well as a long-time friend of Iran’s, and is decidedly anti-Israel.
The Castro regime, in power for over half a century, has developed deep ties to a variety of global terrorist threats around the world. Its most prominent such relationship was with the FARC, a communist terror organization headquartered in Colombia that killed tens of thousands, with Cuban support, since attempting to foster a communist revolution in the country in the 1970s. Since then, the FARC has evolved into one of the world’s most sophisticated drug trafficking operations. FARC leaders have been invited to march in Cuban regime parades and Cuba facilitated a catastrophic “peace deal” with the Colombian government that granted the terrorists guaranteed Congressional representation in 2016. Biden also removed the FARC’s terrorist designation in 2021.
Cuba also maintains a strong alliance with Iran, the world’s premier state sponsor of terrorism, and its proxy terror group Hezbollah. Hezbollah is close to their mutual political ally Venezuela, which reportedly granted its Middle Eastern terrorists genuine, but illegitimate, passports with the help of the Cuban government throughout the 2010s.
The Castro regime has also enthusiastically supported another Iranian terror proxy, Hamas, following the massacre of an estimated 1,200 people and scores of atrocities committed during an invasion of Israel on October 7, 2023. Shortly after the terrorist catastrophe, Cuba held an anti-Israel “concert for peace in Palestine” and displayed a massive light display of the Palestinian flag in the heart of Havana.
Yet we are now being told that Cuba is off the terrorism list because they haven’t committed actual terrorism in the last six months. That’s a boatload of horseshit right there.
Supposedly the Cuban gov’t has agreed to release 533 political prisoners. “Gradually,” which gives them wiggle room to go back on their agreement at any time. Again, does anyone REALLY believe they haven’t been involved in any terror activities within the last six months? Evidently the idiots in the Biden Administration do. And NO ONE is happy with Joe right now.
The reaction against this bone-headed move is coming from all sides.
Biden removing Cuba from Terror list is as stupid as Biden removing the Houthis from terror list. Houthis have shut off the Red Sea for maritime navigation for over a year. The Biden team is so consistently wrong they cannot be this stupid, they must be trying to ruin our… https://t.co/Zak1dCD4CS

Agreed. And yes, the incoming Trump Administration should immediately rescind this order. Cuba has not changed their stripes and won’t ever until there is a complete and utter regime change in that country.
