It’s official! President Trump announced the worst-kept secret in Washington this evening in the Rose Garden, and formally introduced the American public to Judge Amy Coney Barrett, his choice for the next Associate Justice of the Supreme Court.

I encourage everyone to watch Judge Barrett’s speech. Her tone was measured and struck exactly the right note. Her remarks regarding the friendship between Justices Ginsburg and Scalia were excellent – and probably made liberal heads explode. As will the fact that Amy Coney Barrett openly claimed Justice Scalia as her mentor, as she clerked for him at the Supreme Court over 20 years ago.

And in the environment of the moment, Amy Coney Barrett is every American working mom.

Her remarks about being “a room parent, carpool driver, and birthday party planner” along with joking that she and her husband are now “co-principals of the Barrett E-Learning Academy” with their schools still being closed, made her friendly and relatable. Every single parent – myself included – absolutely identifies with the Barrett family in this moment.

Between her “everymom” status and her proclaimed love and loyalty to the United States Constitution, it’s little wonder that the left is freaking out.

President Trump gave a very direct warning to the “other side” during his remarks, warning Democrats to give Amy Coney Barrett – who has impressive legal credentials and experience – a drama-free hearing, and telling the media to leave her family alone (which has already failed). The Democrats, however, aren’t going to listen. They know that the Senate has enough votes to confirm Amy Coney Barrett, even with Susan Collins retreating and Lisa Murkowski waffling. So they are taking to Twitter and sending out official releases to scream their anger and displeasure.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-NY, declared a vote for Barrett as “a vote to strike down the Affordable Care Act and eliminate protections for millions of Americans with pre-existing conditions.”

“By nominating Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court, President Trump has once again put Americans’ healthcare in the crosshairs,” he said, adding he would “strongly” oppose her nomination.”

He also accused Trump and McConnell of “shamelessly rushing to fill Justice Ginsburg’s seat less than 40 days before a presidential election.”

“Justice Ginsburg’s dying wish was that she not be replaced until a new president is installed. Republicans are poised to not only ignore her wishes, but to replace her with someone who could tear down everything that she built,” he said. “This reprehensible power grab is a cynical attack on the legitimacy of the Court.”

The woman who would be shadow president is also weighing in – and she’s on the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Trump’s hand-picked successor to Justice Ginsburg’s seat makes it clear: they intend to destroy the Affordable Care Act & overturn Roe. This selection would move the court further right for a generation & harm millions of Americans.

The Democrats and the media are about to unleash the whirlwind, proving that they have learned absolutely NOTHING from the Kavanaugh nomination. They see it in simple, stark terms – they played a game, and they lost. They know they are going to lose this time, but they intend on making it a Pyrrhic victory if at all possible. And while they learned nothing from the last SCOTUS confirmation process, Republicans learned EVERYTHING. There are no “Marquess of Queensbury” rules to play by. This is Calvinball, both sides know that, and Mitch McConnell has the ball.

October 12th is reportedly to be the opening date for confirmation hearings. Prepare yourselves.
