Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is promoting the Green New Deal with every ounce of her misguided and ill-informed being. So much so that she joined with The Intercept to put together a type of “Back To The Future” Mary Sue powerpoint video that is quite something. Behold the fantasy titled “A Message From The Future With Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.”
Where to begin?
AOC pictures herself riding the bullet train as if that’s the only mode of transportation we would have. How many bullet trains would be needed to navigate the Rocky Mountain West? In order to build such a system of trains in this part of the country, how much land/trees/terrain would need to be moved or blown up or destroyed in order to put more tracks in place?
Exxon Oil BAD! Thanks got it.
NASA dude smart!
Oil, gas, and fracking is ruining the world! *Did she ever stop to think that oil and gas plus the by products of that are what are building the windmills, solar panels, and powering her beloved bullet trains? I didn’t think so.
Hurricane Maria devastes Puerto Rico! In fact AOC claims it was as bad a tragedy as 9/11! Well toots, that’s wrong. You see, Puerto Rico happened because of WEATHER. 9/11 happened because of TERRORISM. See the difference there? Maybe this will help. You see, weather events knock us on our ass for a few minutes. We get to regroup and rebuild because weather goes away. Terrorism however, will keep pounding us into the ground unless we step up and fight back. It’s a YUUUGE difference kiddo.
Climate change is going to ruin us all if we don’t do something! You mean like glue yourselves to streets and subway cars?
“London was brought to a standstill Wednesday morning after militant climate change protesters cause havoc for a third day in a row, climbing and gluing themselves on subway trains, causing road closures and other disruption, leading to an arrest of nearly 300 people in the past 48 hours.”
One of the ringleaders of the ‘Glue Protest?’ This gal.

One wonders what she was going to do if she needed to use the facilities but was still glued to the street. Hmmm. Maybe she should’ve taken a page out of The Intercept and AOC’s playbook and made a video instead.
We have TWELVE years to change EVERYTHING! Now where have we heard that before?
“While preening at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2006 during the premiere of his “An Inconvenient Truth” fib-umentary, Gore made his grand declaration. The former vice president said, in the words of the AP reporter taking down his story, that “unless drastic measures to reduce greenhouse gases are taken within the next 10 years, the world will reach a point of no return.” In Gore’s own words, he claimed we were in “a true planetary emergency.”” [Emphasis Added]
In other words, our planet was toast like 3 years ago. Yet here we are.
AOC’s fairytale tells us unions are the greatest thing since sliced bread and everyone will be working for the exact same wage scale, $15 an hour I presume? Medicare for all is popular! Except that it isn’t because it’s something that AOC and her ilk are trying to force us into while taking all our hard-earned money. Rosie the Riveter is no longer white. People will happily work at retrofitting every building on the planet!
Who pays for all this magical stuff? Who decides what is the best ‘living wage’ for all those who, whether they have the skill or not, will work where they are told? Our betters in Congress that’s who!
The Americorp Climate thing screams socialism and gives me chills. What else gives me chills? The fact that the work of teachers, healthcare workers (nurses and docs among others), and domestic workers are considered “low carbon jobs.” How very condescending of her.
I’m not sure when Hurricane Sheldon will show up, but we’ve been warned. If we don’t prepare, then this utopia will never come to fruition

AOC’s Green New Deal is a socialist money grab pure and simple. If you buy into her fairytale, don’t come crying to me when all you are left holding is a handful of Monopoly money.

Passenger trains have inherent limitations: they need dedicated land for infrastructure, the infrastructure itself and the maintenance thereof, and because they are locked into the land-based infrastructure they can not easily change to meet changes in demand. Airplanes only need a relatively small amount of fixed infrastructure and can move over land without affecting it very much. I find it odd that AOC does not push electric airliners, though there are a number of people working on just those, with several electric airplanes already flying.
As for the “rights” she describes, who pays for it? Health care is an array of goods and services, for which the suppliers of expect to be paid (considering what it takes to become a doctor, it is not unreasonable for them to want to be paid very well). Declaring that they must work for a fixed (by someone else) amount will make going through the training and experience to become a healthcare professional unappealing. Having everyone paid the same, which seems to be one of her goals, will kill initiative; this has been amply demonstrated all over the world, most thoroughly documented in the former U.S.S.R. If a company CEO gets paid no more than someone who sweeps the factory floor, who in their right mind would want to be a CEO? Or an engineer, which takes education, training and experience? Or anything else that requires effort in expectation of a reward? If no one is working harder than what would pay $15/hr, which is where most people would go, since there would be no sensible reason to do anything else, what happens to the companies, which presumably pay the taxes which pay for all this Utopia?
Looking at the end of it, since she is no longer in Congress, what job does AOC see herself as having, 10 years hence?
what job does AOC see herself as having, 10 years hence?
Why, she’s part of the ruling class, by then! That’s not a *job*, it’s a “position”, and you and I will put her there after she so graciously saves us from ourselves.
Or, if history swings back toward freedom and justice, she’ll have a position under a tall tree or lamppost…..
(Get your mind out of the gutter!)
”Or, if history swings back toward freedom and justice, she’ll have a position under a tall tree or lamppost…..”
With a long rope dangling down and a noose tied at the end? Or are you suggesting she would do some honest work out there on the streets like other ‘ladies’?
“I’m head of KGB! I have my beets delivered! …the Soviet system is actually incredibly unfair…”
– Major Nikolai Jakov
AOC, like most leftists, can’t string together a coherent thought, damn sure doesn’t understand cause and effect, and above all else, will NEVER let facts get in the way of the narrative / agenda!

I saw that video yesterday. (Well, part, as I couldn’t stand the insipid BS the husband was spouting.) I have to admit I’m not very nice about this sort of insanity. Because if I were the copper there, I would have had someone go and get a metal drywall spatula and a hammer from the nearest building supply store. Just a few whacks, and she would have been free.
Yet here we are.
Nah. You just think you’re here. After all, if Gorebull Warming didn’t get you, then Net Neutrality repeal most certainly did! (And the coming Ice Age will finish off the survivors!)
I couldn’t sit through the whole video, either. It was painful to try and wade through that much stupidity. Thank you for taking one for the team, Nina.
It’s not a fairy tale. Those at least contain moral truths if not factual events. This is far worse. It’s delusion.
Don’t underestimate this video. It’s well done, very seductive. The people behind it are obviously smart and technically skilled. We are dealing with a largely innumerate generation, and we can’t counteract it with facts and numbers.
Perhaps the good people at Prager U. will come up with an effective response, but even they could learn some technical stuff from AOC’s video.
I learned from the film that a one-armed Negro man and a White woman single-handedly, so to speak, won WWII.
Think how much steel made in those. nasty polluting steel mills will be required , not only for rails but for all the attendant hardware required to build tracks, i.e. splice plates, rail clamps, spikes, switches, etc.
“In the field of psychology, the Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which people mistakenly assess their cognitive ability as greater than it is. It is related to the cognitive bias of illusory superiority and comes from the inability of people to recognize their lack of ability. Without the self-awareness of metacognition, people cannot objectively evaluate their competence or incompetence.”
