We all thought the GOP had scored the winning run on Friday. With the score 11-10, and the GOP in the lead, it looked like a full Senate vote for Kavanaugh come Tuesday.

Then Sen. Jeff Flake (WhoTheHellKnows-AZ) inexplicably decided to pinch hit for the other guys. That’s because screaming harpies from the Soros-funded Center for Popular Democracy Action cowed him in an elevator. And now this long game is going into extra innings.

So here we are at the top of the 10th, and now the FBI is in the game. They’ve just contacted the second Kavanaugh accuser, Deborah Ramirez, who claimed he wagged his wienie at her at a Yale party, even though — like Christine Ford — no one can corroborate her story, either. Also, Ford’s BFF Leland Keyser has said she will cooperate with the FBI. Never mind that she doesn’t remember anything about Kavanaugh assaulting Ford at a high school party.

Mind you, former federal attorney Andrew McCarthy writes that this FBI investigation is pretty much worthless. First of all, the FBI “does not make an assessment of guilt or innocence.” It’s the Senate, he notes, that decides on the fitness of a nominee — after all, that’s the Senate’s constitutional role. He adds:

“. . .the FBI would only do exactly what the committee could do by itself — talk to people who might have germane information. There is nothing magical, dispositive, or conclusive about an FBI background investigation.”

And what would happen if the FBI found that there’s no support for Ford’s or Ramirez’s allegations? Game loss for the Democrats?

Hardly. Then we would go into the 11th inning, which could really be explosive, since “Stripper Matlock” Michael Avenatti wants justice for his client, too. However, right now the White House is telling Avenatti and his client to pound sand.

But you know the Dems will demand to hear her sad tale of woe. Plus, Avenatti says his client, Julie SlutSwetnick, is “telling the truth.” And if she can’t tell her wild gang rape stories to the FBI, she’ll spin them on the Showtime network.

But neither team has hit the winning run. So now we go into the 12th.

And the Democrats might call in the State of Maryland.

Ariana Kelly, MD Democratic Caucus Chair, sent a letter to Montgomery County Chief of Police and the MD State’s Attorney. She wants them to open a criminal investigation into Brett Kavanaugh.

The officials responded on Friday, noting that they’d have to apply the law from 1982, when Ford claimed Kavanaugh assaulted her. And what does the law say?

“. . . in 1982, assault and attempted rape were both misdemeanors and subject to a one-year statute of limitations.” 

Well, too bad, so sad for the Dems, right? Don’t count on it. Maryland officials said they would open a criminal investigation if Ford files a complaint. And you can bet your bottom dollar that Christine Ford’s attorneys will be on that like stink on. . . well, you know.

The Democrats will rub their hands with glee. As law professor Jonathan Turley writes:

“That investigation would by necessity go on for weeks — prompting likely calls for an additional delay.”

Which, of course, is precisely what the Democrats want. Delay, delay, delay.

Now if you’ve ever watched baseball games that go into extra innings, you know it gets tiring for fans. Moreover, the players are getting tired, too, and just want the game to end.

But consider our Republican home team. Not only is this game going on long past their expectations, they’re dealing with stuff the Dems don’t have to worry about.

Like members of their team getting doxxed. The phone numbers and home addresses of Sens. Lindsey Graham, Orrin Hatch, and Mike Lee were leaked to Wikipedia. Guess where the investigation led? To the House of Representatives and the IP address of Kathleen Sengstock. So who’s Sengstock?

Well, well, well, she’s a Maxine Waters staffer.

Then there’s the writer for USA Today who wonders (with his fingers crossed) if Brett Kavanaugh should even coach girls’ basketball anymore:

“Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh testified the other day that he might never coach girls’ basketball again. . . . 

He just might be right. Oh, not the part about blaming Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee – that’s just to avoid placing blame on his wholly sympathetic accuser – but the may-never-coach-again part.”

And then there’s Kavanaugh’s Yale classmate who told CNN that he was a heavy drinker. Never mind that it has nothing to do with sexual assault. Or HuffPost crowing that polls show that more people believe Ford than Kavanaugh. Or a member of the New York Times editorial board demanding that America “Make My Sexual Assault Count” by refusing Brett Kavanaugh a place on the Supreme Court.

But this was what the Democrats — and the media — wanted all along, wasn’t it? Delay in order to plant more doubt, to wear down the Senate Republicans, especially the weak links like Sens. Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski. Finally, they also want to wear down Brett Kavanaugh so he withdraws. And, of course, to win both Congressional houses in the midterms. And with a Senate majority, they could thumbs down every SCOTUS pick President Trump makes.

Right now it feels like it’s the bottom of one of those endless extra innings. There are three men on base, two men out, and the home team is down by one. And the the bottom of the order is coming up to bat, the guy with the .210 average.

He could do it, you tell yourself. He could hit a double and drive in the winning run. Hell, he could even hit a Grand Slam.

It. Could. Happen.

But you have this sinking feeling. Deep down you know it won’t happen. He’ll give you three swings and misses. And the other team will win. Again.

Just like the Republicans always seem to lose to the Democrats. And now I have that sinking feeling about Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination.

God, I hope I’m wrong.
