Happy Friday, all and welcome to volume 4,003 of “Journalists Gonna Journo” brought to you by our friends at the LA Times.
Now, I’ll admit, when I heard the news yesterday about OJ Simpson, I wasn’t the least bit saddened. I am sure many a woman who has been in a physically and mentally abusive relationship with an arrogant, egotistical man felt the same way.
Since these trained “journalists” are taught to obsess night and day over Trump, however, The Los Angeles Times gaffed bigly in their write up:
Long before the city woke up on a fall morning in 2017, Trump walked out of Lovelock Correctional Center outside Reno, a free man for the first time in nine years,” the obituary read. “He didn’t go far, moving into a 5,000-square-foot home in Las Vegas with a Bentley in the driveway.”-The LA Times
It did not take long before readers spotted the error that managed to get past their proofreaders, editorial board and their fact-checkers.
They are truly obsessed

Paging…Dr. Freud?
The LA Times said this was a “mistake”. Sure. Sure, it was.
Unbelievable. The LA Times is out of control.”-Steve Guest, Republican Strategist
Some of three-martini lunches are really getting to them, I’d say.
And I bet they still won’t understand why trust in media is at an all-time low.”-GOP rapid research director Jake Schneider
But this, this was a “typographical error”, as stated by the LA Times.
Damn predictive trump again

A “typographical error” is an error in which someone’s name is spelled wrong. Oj Simpson’s hame was not spelled wrong…the wrong name was written in the obit. The LA Times‘ mistake is big. It’s YUUUUGE. Was it wishful thinking in part of this “journalist” who feverishly wrote up OJ Simspon’s obit? Who knows? The left is cheering this “reporting” on, however. They, like all the good, scripted liberal “journalists” in the land, want so badly for this to be so. They want to click their heels and twitch their noses to make it so. Correctional Center? Prison? The last name “Trump” is not too far away from associated words.
This might be what happens when you Chat GPT your stories, LA Times.
The writer of the OJ Simpson/Trump obit is Elaine Woo, a freelance “journalist” who has been writing on-again and off-again for the rag since 1983. She is THE obit writer for The LA Times.
Elaine? You had ONE JOB, here, ma’am.
Woo has written the obits of notable greats such as Rosa Parks and Elizabeth Taylor. She was interviewed about her craft in Deadbeat:
Deadbeat: Would you say that that’s the ultimate sign of success for an obituary — to make people cry?
Elaine Woo: I wouldn’t say it’s the ultimate sign of success but certainly in this case, it meant that my effort to write with humanity about this figure succeeded. For me, the ultimate compliment is when a reader asks if I knew the dead person — then I know that I succeeded in drawing a full and engaging portrait.
And just between you and me, the second gauge of success is when I’m told my story was better than the NY Times obit on the same person — I have heard this often!
Oh, boy. An effort to “write with humanity” about a womanizing killer who walked free?
Are you kidding? In Liberal LA-LA Land, Elaine’s Trump “oopsie” might even earn her a Pulitzer!
More:
Very often, my colleagues and I are faced with questions about whether to include certain information, knowing that it may displease the family…”-Elaine Woo
(Snort.) Stop right there. Certain information like OJ Simpson killed his ex-wife? Certain information like Simpson (not Trump) walked out of Lovelock Correctional Center”? That might-could displease the family. I could see Woo and The LA Times Editorial Board now:
I know! Let’s put Trump’s name in there instead!
The biggest lesson I’ve learned from writing obits is simply this: one person can make a difference.”-Elaine Woo
One name makes all of the difference, too, Ms. Woo. I do feel that I have dragged The LA Times‘ Elaine Woo through enough mud this morning so, I will go back to “journalism” as a whole in this nation of ours. Let’s have some fun with this. What do we all think would have happened if Elaine Woo’s OJ obit contained the last names “Biden” or “Obama” instead of “Trump” in that one sentence?
I’d wager Ms. Woo would be forced to profusely publicly apologize and may even be forced into early retirement. What will she get for her TDS? What most “journalists” get these days. A slap on the wrist and cheers from the very people they all lie to-every single hour of every single day in the 24-hour news cycle who are dumb enough to pick up what they’re putting down from The LA Times and other “news” outlets.
Sincere prayers to the surviving loved ones of OJ Simpson and prayers for final closure for the Goldman family. As far as the man is concerned, I hope a bunch of women descend upon his grave with gloves. Lots of them.
