The Left’s march through society’s institutions — media, academia, government, corporations — has also included churches. Now it appears the venerable charity, Salvation Army, has succumbed to the cult.

The Salvation Army, founded in 1865 in England, has been doing the good works of Christianity towards the poor and destitute since that time. They have always been both a charity and a ministry, though they do not require any profession of faith or adherence to their faith to partake of the goods and services they provide. It is, too, one of the few charities that really makes sure to get the most out of each dollar donated down to the recipient.

However, even they are allowing the cult of Woke-ism to make inroads in their organization.

The Salvation Army has come forward with a new initiative which delves deep in the topic of racism and the Church, as per the charity’s recently-published ‘Let’s Talk About Racism’ document.

The 67-page guide has been provided through the International Social Justice Commission and is “designed to stimulate gracious discussion among Salvationists who choose to participate”.

As per the document, the initiative has sparked controversy as one of the lessons asks white donors to “lament, repent and apologize for biases or racist ideologies held and actions committed.”

International Social Justice Commission? The Bible is riddled with quotes about justice, but not one advocates the rather unjust principles as espoused by those who are activists for social justice. Indeed, Leviticus 19:15 is a very specific warning against letting extraneous factors, like identity, distract from the matter of justice.

You shall do no injustice in court. You shall not be partial to the poor or defer to the great, but in righteousness shall you judge your neighbor.

In the same way, we are to direct our charitable works to those in need without being partial to inherent identity of the receiver. That is the message of Jesus’ parable of the Good Samaritan. Even in Matthew 7:12, we find the basic rule of behavior in all things:

So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.

So what is going on with Salvation Army? What kind of Christian, Bible-based organization turns “encouraging” its 1.7 million followers in anti-Christian principles? As radio host Greg Koukl observes:

In my estimation, CRT is a Trojan horse taking in well-intentioned Christian enterprises that— because they care about justice and oppose oppression—naively promote the most serious threat to biblical Christianity I have seen in 50 years. (snip)

To be clear, I am not claiming there is no racism to be dealt with or are no racist Christians who need to repent. What I am saying is that critical race theory is not an accurate characterization of contemporary racial dynamics in America (as many have argued). Therefore, since its analysis is faulty, it offers a faulty solution, one that creates a whole set of new racial tensions and provides no productive resolution to them.

Woke Christianity is a contradiction in terms. And it makes for some strange bedfellows — from The Pope granting an audience with Nancy Pelosi to PresbyterianUSA Jewhate to numerous incidents of “Transgender Pastors”. What we are witnessing the sublimation of Christian and Jewish principles, communities and organizations to a political ideology jealous of all who challenge its powers. This is Communist China’s approach to religion — state-approved churches that make the political leaders their object of worship.

Xi before Christ, as it were.

The Salvation Army is letting melanin-before-Christ creep into their mission. Even their attempt at explaining themselves falls short.

“But these voluntary discussion guides certainly are not required, and they never take the place of our Positional Statements,” said [External Communications Manager Joseph] Cohen. “For us, the Truth in scripture is always supreme.”

Oh goody, I’m so relieved that it’s just a 67-page discussion guide. Nothing to worry our pretty little heads about and, btw, keep sending the Benjamins.

On a personal note, I donate to several charities throughout the year and change up from year to year with a couple of exceptions. Outside of my regular church donations, The Salvation Army has always been a go to for years. I’ve always looked forward to Christmas season and have dropped not an insignificant amount of cash into those little red kettles.
