We are in the middle of the Holiest Week of the year for Christians, although our Greek Orthodox sisters and brothers are a week behind. For our Jewish brethren, this evening begins the eight days of Passover. While we are stuck at home, unable to be close to our family and friends, there is reason for hope in the age of Covid-19, especially here in the United States of America.

I took the image at the top of this post while I was walking MacDuff. A teenage girl in the neighborhood has been painting rocks and leaving them out on the boulevard for all of us to be encouraged by and enjoy. Neighbors are out walking more and, while we all keep our distance, everyone is smiling and friendly.

It’s easy to be discouraged by all the whale excrement being sprayed on us by the so-called experts. The World Health Organization, in collusion with China, condemned us all by their incompetent malevolence, as Amanda wrote. And, as Nina wrote, it doesn’t help that our medical experts are skewing the numbers with the way they count the Covid-19 deaths.

But, just walk outside and the sky is still blue (and, don’t you astrophysicists argue with me), the birds are singing and everything is starting to spring to life. That is why hope springs eternal. Life goes on.

As we go through this Holy Week or Passover, we should ponder on the order of things and how we got here. By here, I mean this Nation at this time. We are more free with more abundance than an people before us. We have every reason to hope. Why? Because we are the United States of America.

Matthew Donovan, a retired fighter pilot and an under secretary for Defense, has a very hopeful column on the Fox New website. Mr. Donovan talks about the one trait that makes us different from other nations and will see us on to victory. That trait is resilence. He discusses the way we will adapt, the ways we will learn and change, and the speed with which this will be accomplished. His last paragraph reads:

When confronted with challenges throughout our history, Americans have become galvanized and unified and demonstrated the resilience that makes our nation the greatest the world has ever known. Although COVID-19 is testing our resolve, I know we will not waiver, and we will not fail. I am proud to work with the men and women of the Department of Defense, and most importantly, extremely proud to be a citizen of these United States. We will prevail!

You know what makes us a resilient people? Hope. We know that, by the Grace of God and under the protection of The Constitution, we can get up tomorrow and change things. We determine which way things will go. I know it’s hard right now. We are intentionally destroying our economy. There are people being arrested for surfing or playing with their own children. It’s more whale excrement. But, we have hope. We can change things and make adjustments.

There is beauty all around us. There is Spring all around us. There is hope all around us. If you can’t get out, or if it is a particularly ugly weather day where you are, here is a little Vivaldi Spring for you.

This is the season of renewal and the Resurrection. Even though we are confined from home, hope springs eternal. Be still and know. After all, tomorrow is another day. Damn it, Scarlett, not now.
