Since the Democrats can’t stifle Senator Mitch McConnell, they’ve now decided to go after his wife, Department of Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao. The Democrats on the House Ethics Committee (I know, Democrats and ‘ethics’) sent this letter out yesterday. 

““The Committee is examining your misstatements of fact, your actions that may have benefitted the company in which you continued to hold shares, and your compliance with ethics and financial disclosure requirements,” Cummings and Krishnamoorthi wrote.”

““The Committee is also investigating your failure to divest of stock in one of the nation’s largest construction companies, Vulcan Materials Company, where you served on the Board of Directors for nearly two years immediately before becoming Secretary of Transportation,” Cummings and Krishnamoorthi wrote.”

Needless to say, the media firefighters are thrilled with this. Especially since this has been brewing since at least June. View Rachel Maddow’s happy dance last June. Yes, I know, Maddow is painful to watch. Sorry, but here’s Rachel last night.

According to Rachel and the New York Times, Foremost, the Chao family shipping business has benefitted from Chao’s role as Dept. of Transportation Secretary. Let’s unpack this for a minute shall we?

Foremost may be headquartered in New York, but the business is an international shipping business. The House Democrats attempts to tie the company to funding for US maritime vessels is laughable. Why? The ships that Foremost runs are NOT U.S. flagged ships. But Foremost has contracts with China to ship their goods! Therefore – collusion!

As to the Vulcan stock? Did anyone ever stop to think that arbitrarily divesting stock immediately upon orders is something that is never a good idea no matter who it is. Why? Tax consequences. Secondly, the agreement between Chao and Vulcan regarding the stock may have had restrictions in place that took longer than anticipated to unpack to get the divestiture accomplished. Gosh, those legal issues and tax consequences are so problematic for the Democrat ethical firefighters aren’t they?

But here’s another thing about this “investigation.” The media is already pointing a finger at the family’s wealth and insinuating that Mitch McConnell’s campaigns have benefitted from it. 

“Ms. Chao’s family wealth has also benefited her husband, Mitch McConnell, the Kentucky Republican who is the Senate majority leader. In 2008, the couple received a gift from Ms. Chao’s father valued between $5 million and $25 million, according to federal disclosures.”

About that 2008 gift, viewable here, what the media doesn’t WANT us to know today is that this gift was an INHERITANCE.

Yes indeed, Elaine Chao’s mother, Ruth Mulan Chu Chao, who passed away in 2007 after a seven year battle with lymphoma, had the unmitigated gall to gift her children and their families with money after she died! How dare she!

I mean seriously, what should Elaine Chao have done in 2008? Said nope to a gift from her deceased mother because, at some point in the future, Democrats and the media were going to point fingers at it and cry corruption?

I wonder if the Democrats will find Ruth Chao’s $40 million gift to Harvard problematic?

Isn’t Jon so cute?? Then again, he’s the Dem Coalition chair, so he wants all these allegations to be true! I mean the media reported it, so therefore their insinuations are actual facts! Right?

Quite frankly, this looks like a witch hunt. It looks like retaliation for Mitch McConnell’s support of Bret Kavanaugh, support of Donald Trump, and the fact that he’s been able to get nearly 150 judges confirmed to the lower courts.

This “investigation” reeks, and the stench is coming from the Democrats.
