According to AOC, her concentration camp narrative is right and all the ‘shrieking Republicans’ are wrong. Ever since the media started peddling the Fort Sill Japanese internment camp narrative, the phrase concentration camp has become a thing. Well, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) is running with that narrative with all her might.
The narrative started with this story.
“Trump Administration to Hold Migrant Children at Base That Served as WWII Japanese Internment Camp”
You have to read far into the story to find out that is something that Obama did as well. However, when a lot of folks pointed out THAT uncomfortable fact on social media, the tantrums commenced and many were told to STFU with their ‘whataboutism.’ You see, it was hunky dory that Obama used Fort Sill to house children temporarily. But now that it is Trump?
AOC decided to amp up the narrative last night on Instagram.
“Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has slammed ‘fascist’ Donald Trump’s immigration policy, saying his administration is operating ‘concentration camps on our southern border.’
The Democratic Representative for New York’s 14th congressional district streamed a live Q&A with her Instagram followers on Monday, in which she doubled down on her criticism of the government’s crack down on asylum seekers and migrants.
‘That is exactly what they are. They are concentration camps,’ Ocasio-Cortez said during the live-stream.”
Oh. Isn’t that just lovely? No, no it isn’t. If you can handle it, she really did go there.
Trump is fascist don’t you know! And she’s here to tell us that she’s not using those words lightly. RIIIGHT.
She then uses an Esquire article to defend her stance. You see, experts are here to tell us that the word concentration camp doesn’t mean what we think it means. A concentration camp is one that detaining a great number of civilians without an opportunity for a trial. The concentration camps during the Holocaust were a rarity according to the ‘experts.’
Here’s the problem. What is going on on our southern border doesn’t rise to any definition of concentration camp. Hundreds of thousands of people have flooded the border demanding entry into the United States. The Democrats have refused to provide additional funding to help upgrade facilities that were built in the 1990’s. The Democrats have refused to provide additional funding for more personnel, medical and food supplies, and resources/tools needed to process the multitudes of immigration claims.
Yet AOC and the rest of the Democrat Left are here to tell us that our government is actively engaged in the concentration camp business. That rhetoric is wrong and dangerous on every level. This thread shows just how the narrative has flipped from 2014 to now. It’s worth your time to read.
Understandably, folks with a brain and more than a passing knowledge of history are unamused by AOC’s shameful concentration camp rhetoric.

Yes indeed. AOC’s commentary is disgraceful and dangerous. Far too many of her followers are accepting her statements as gospel, and they are just as wrong as she is.
I don’t care what the ‘experts’ said in the Esquire article. What is taking place on our southern border does not fit ANY definition of concentration camp. Period.
Of course, AOC wasn’t thrilled to be called out by anyone, let alone Liz Cheney.

As for the rest of us who dare to disagree with AOC?
And for the shrieking Republicans who don’t know the difference: concentration camps are not the same as death camps.
Concentration camps are considered by experts as “the mass detention of civilians without trial.”

Guess what? In this case, I’m thrilled to be classified as a ‘shrieking Republican!’ Especially since she gets EVERYTHING wrong about concentration camps and immigration.
Whether it is El Paso, San Diego, San Antonio, or even Fort Sill Army base, the folks demanding to be let into our country are awaiting adjudication. Sometimes the wait is several days or weeks. Why? Because the Democrats (yes, that includes YOU Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez) have refused to pass legislation granting additional funds and resources to help alleviate the over crowding issues.
Furthermore, many of those children HAVE NO PARENTS WITH THEM! Yet AOC wants all of us ‘shrieking Republicans’ to stop talking about that.

AOC’s concentration camp diatribe is wrong on every level. It is also dangerous. Seventeen million people were killed in genuine concentration camps during the Holocaust. That is not the case on our border no matter how much spin she puts on the narrative.

Ummm, well, duh! They’ve only existed in a few contexts: the Boer War (as alleged), WW2, Soviet Union, Communist China, and Pol Pot’s Cambodia, as far as I know. So, yeah, their concentration within marxist countries in no way makes them less rare. *eyeroll*

Those two words – “expert” and “Esquire” – really don’t belong in the same sentence. Ever.
OK, look, AOC, you really should stop spouting your progressive religious drivel and start learning to deal with reality. Here’s some info:
First, concentration camps are almost always associated with forced labor and/or mass executions (despite your “death camps are different” baloney). No one is being forced to do labor ANYWHERE in our country, but especially these invaders. And no one is planning on exterminating them.
Second, the conditions in these locations are NOT “brutal” or “dehumanizing”. If you ‘akchually’ think they are, you’re an even bigger idiot than I already take you for. If you know they aren’t, then you’re a liar as large as any Soviet propagandist or Maoist re-educator. Their conditions are better than what our troops encounter in many forward locations or during exercises.
Also, if anyone is dying, it’s as a result of 1) pre-conditions (things they brought with them or contracted en route) or 2) all the criminals mixed into those invasion columns.
Third, these people are invading our nation. Your position on this is indicative of a domestic enemy of the Constitution – you’re actually trying to destroy our nation. (Or you’re a moron parrot for those who are.) Your rhetoric is raising the pitch, and when that pitch reaches a certain level, understand you will not be one of the folks enjoying a dacha on the Potomac. You’re working toward a very ugly end – for you and for a significant portion of the nation.
(Oh, and being invaders, they deserve to be put in camps – until the war is over or their cases (for being illegal combatants) are adjudicated. Or, you know, we could always just shoot them at the border. That would be legally defensible and would keep them out of those ‘concentration camps’.)
But, AOC, I agree with you: they should NOT be put in camps to be adjudicated. They should be put on buses IMMEDIATELY and driven directly back to whence they came. There should BE NO adjudication at all. They invaded our country and should be sent home. ASAP. Period.
Sympathy? No, I don’t have anymore. Interestingly, you will likely run out of OPS* before you run out of OPM.

cthulhu says: NPR had an interview with the latest ICE guy — at one point, he complained that he was only three weeks on the job — where the questioner kept hammering on “XXX fatalities in ICE custody during Trump’s term.”
I was getting seriously pissed-off. There were probably a dozen fatalities on-property at Disneyland during Trump’s term (although they go to extreme lengths to obscure actual stats). Should we abolish Disneyland? Is Disneyland at fault for this??? There’d be significantly more fatalities at Disneyland if people in poor health had to march a thousand miles across a desert to get there. Would that be Disney’s/ICE’s fault — or the result of poor judgement? What number of those fatalities were because people had entrusted their well-being to an organized crime syndicate (“coyotes”) to transport them illegally, while raping most of the females? Is that also because of ICE?
When the interviewer has gotten to the point where a disease-ridden, raped, dehydrated, overworked girl can take two steps over the US border — and subsequently receive the best medical care they have ever experienced in their lifetime, and die nonetheless….and this is the fault of the Trump Administration……..the interview has become an entire farce.

The kicker was I was handing out sentences (hey, it’s my dream!). Donkey-chompers came along.
I sentenced her to be imprisoned in the Holocaust Museum in DC – for as long as it took to recite every name of every person killed (known) in the Holocaust, once completely through for each concentration camp. So, 2.5 million names (according to the Yad Vashem site), at an appropriate pace (say 5-7 seconds per name), works out to >260 days, if she could manage 16 hour days. Given there were 6 death camps and dozens of work camps….
Oh, and she also had to recite the names of the Righteous Among The Nations after each list of the Jewish victims.
(BTW, Omar wasn’t around to be sentenced, since she apparently forgot to account for the time difference between MN and DC when building a vest.)
