Money Trump Raised for Veterans is MIA

Remember back in January of this year, when Donald Trump skipped a Fox News debate because of his snit with Megyn Kelly? He then set up a much-ballyhooed rally in Des Moines hailed as a fundraiser for veterans. He bragged about his love for vets as well as the yuuuuge amount of money he raised for veterans’ causes.

So where is all that money now?

Ummm, no one seems to know. Furthermore, Al Baldasaro, Trump’s chairman for veterans issues, doesn’t seem to care.

“I could ask, but it’s not high on my priority list,” Baldasaro told the Daily Beast. He continued, “I don’t track that. I’m not concerned about it, because I know [Trump is] an honorable, honest guy . . .you guys just want to say, ‘gotcha.’”

I see. So journalists are the bad guys here because they want to know where the money went.

Six million dollars was reported to have been raised by the Trump campaign, and as of this date CNN was able to track down about $2.9 million that was given to 27 charities — and that information was per the Trump campaign.

Trump campaign spokeswoman Hope Hicks seemed irritated that anyone would be concerned about locating a massive amount of money designated for helping those who have put their lives on the line for Americans. “If the media spent half as much time highlighting the work of these groups and how our veterans have been so mistreated, rather than trying to disparage Mr. Trump’s generosity for a totally unsolicited gesture for which he had no obligation, we would all be better for it,” Hicks said this past Thursday.

Look, squirrel!

Charity watchdog groups are wondering too. The vice president for Charity Navigator, Sandra Miniutti, acknowledged that it takes time to disperse monies, but added, “There is no hard rule for turn-around time, but because the fundraising was so public, I think it’s fair to question why the funds haven’t been paid out.”

Daniel Borochoff, president of CharityWatch, said, “A highly publicized event such as Trump’s fundraiser for veterans charities ought to disclose within a few months what it has done with the funds that it has raised.”

So, Donald Trump, show us the money! How disgraceful that Trump touted his love for those who have served this nation, and now his campaign can’t even account for all the funds it claims were designated to help them.
