Yesterday we told you how leftist filmmaker Michael Moore showed up outside Trump Tower in New York City holding a sign that read, “We are all Muslim.”
Certain college students — being long on misguided passion and short on sense — were not to be outdone. William A. Jacobson, Professor of Law at Cornell Law School, writes at his blog Legal Insurrection about how University of San Diego students began wearing yellow stars on their clothing marked with a crescent and the word “Muslim.”
Yes, this yellow star.
USD Associate Professor of Theology and Religious Studies Bahar Davary, an Iranian-American whose specialty is Islam, instigated this stunt. “What it symbolizes is that there have been people who have been made to be the ‘other’ throughout history,” she said.
The irony was not lost on Jacobson. He writes:
The irony, of course, is that the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem was a big supporter and fan of Hitler, and the Muslim world is a hotbed of anti-Semitic propaganda and agitation. Jews routinely are demonized for being Jews, and the ancient Jewish communities in Muslim areas were expelled after the creation of Israel.
In Europe, Jews cannot walk the streets in many places while displaying any Jewish symbol or even traditional Jewish attire for fear of harassment by young Muslims.
The comparisons of Trump to Hitler are out of control.
But this is much worse.
No one misunderstands this misplaced gesture. We understand it all too well.
The use of the yellow star and designation of Jews as “the other” started long before the Nazis and the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem. Jimmy Bitton, a teacher of Jewish studies at the Community Hebrew Academy of Toronto, informs us that Muslims began demanding that Jews in Islamic nations wear badges of designation — from belts to badges — dating as far back as 717.
The most notorious use of the yellow badge came, of course, during the dark years of the Third Reich in Germany.
How anyone with a modicum of historical knowledge and common sense could watch that video and not be moved, and not see the outlandishness of comparing the status of Muslims to European Jews during the Third Reich, is jaw dropping. What Donald Trump had proposed in temporarily limiting immigration by Muslims is nowhere near the horrors of the Holocaust.
kbob_in_Katy says: Actually it is typical that (in this case) muslims appropriate a marker to show that they are considered less than others. It is a move calculated to generate sympathy (“Look- we have to wear these markers”) when in fact they are devices that they used to oppress others historically.
The word Muslim on a Star of David……the muzzies have gone way too far!! These people have historically oppressing and enslaving others since 700 A.D., and are still slaughtering people today, and they dare to claim to be victims!!!!!!!! They’ve also turned many a Christian church into a mosque…the Hagia Sophia, and others in Spain.
