You may recall the story from last summer of Cecil the Lion, allegedly lured from his home on a wildlife refuge in Zimbabwe, then killed by a dentist from Minnesota during a hunting expedition. When the story broke, social media had a collective, and vicious, meltdown. Walter Palmer received death threats from ignorant, angry mobs, and mass outrage came by way of 140-character missiles launched from the keyboards of selfish, bored, latte-sipping bleeding-hearts from all across the nation. Palmer was forced to close his thriving practice, and fled into hiding for weeks. The story eventually died down, charges were never filed, and few apologies were offered.

Well, a few days ago, I saw a story pass through my news feed about Zimbabwean officials faced with culling overpopulated herds of lions because, reportedly, wealthy hunters from around the globe, whose fees help support the wildlife refuge, have stopped visiting. Why? Because they don’t want to end up like Walter Palmer:

Do you hear that? It’s called silence. No concern for the lions now. And it’s the same silence we hear following a typical weekend in Chicago. Or Baltimore. Or Detroit. The same silence we hear outside abortions mills around the country snuffing out the lives of hundreds of thousands of black babies every year, a monstrous culture the majority of Democrats defend up until the moment of birth. And the same silence we heard when Tyshawn Lee, and Heaven Sutton, and Hadiya Pendleton were murdered, lives whose full potential will never be realized. Lives lost to poverty, to failing schools, to lost opportunity, to a perpetual sense of hopelessness. They had names, too. And yet, there’s no collective outrage, no mourning for what these children might have been. And few utter their names out loud.

What’s my point? That liberals are fickle hypocrites.

You may have seen this video. It’s been floating around now for a couple of days. It’s Hillary Clinton in 1996:

And yet, despite the law signed into existence by her husband that’s led to the mass incarceration of scores of black youth (whether they deserve to be imprisoned is another discussion), rather than addressing the issues that’ve lead to the crisis, our black communities continue to overwhelmingly vote for more of the same.

“I signed a bill that made the problem worse,” Clinton told an audience at the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People’s annual meeting in Philadelphia. “And I want to admit it.”

The omnibus crime bill that Clinton signed included the federal “three strikes” provision, mandating life sentences for criminals convicted of a violent felony after two or more prior convictions, including drug crimes.

“We had gang warfare on the streets. We had little children being shot dead on the streets who were just innocent bystanders standing in the wrong place,” he said.

In response, Clinton said, the bill increased the number of police on the streets and enacted gun control legislation. But decades later, Clinton believes the results of the law were mixed, at best.

“In that bill, there were longer sentences. And most of these people are in prison under state law, but the federal law set a trend,” Clinton said. “And that was overdone. We were wrong about that. That percentage of it, we were wrong about. “

He added: “The good news is we had the biggest drop in crime in history. The bad news is we had a lot people who were locked up, who were minor actors, for way too long.”

And how has that changed? It hasn’t. Coupled with the marked decline in employment opportunities, and the dramatic rise in welfare and food stamp dependence under the current administration, the vast majority of people of color still continue to vote Democrat. It’s easier to blame white privilege; it’s easier to blame cops; but it’s far more laborious to hold those whom you repeatedly support accountable. Meanwhile, the GOP continues to be a relative failure at outreach and effective messaging on alternative options.

The Hillary Clintons of the land care deeply about our black communities, but it seems only at certain times. Like election years, when they need the votes, votes that essentially amount to modern day slavery in a system that works great for the Democrat Lions, but continually, and I’d argue intentionally, fails the cubs. Yes, the Hillary Clintons of America value black lives, as long as they stay where they are, remain nameless and voiceless, keep voting Democrat, and don’t dare venture out of their dens.
