Poor Portland, Oregon. The city that wants to “keep weird,” just can’t catch a break — they’ve had protests and violence for the past twenty months. And on Saturday it happened again.

The teams were from the right and left of the political spectrum, and here’s how they matched up:

On the right were the groups “Patriot Prayer” and the “Proud Boys.” Apparently the founder of Patriot Prayer, Joey Gibson, is running for Senate from neighboring Washington State, which is a quite a tall order since WA is just as deep blue as Oregon. But, they did get the proper permits to rally on Portland’s Waterfront Park. Joining Patriot Prayer were the Proud Boys, who call themselves “Western Chauvinists.”  Now maybe these groups were legitimately trying to promote a candidate. Or maybe they were trolling the Left. Who knows?

But extremists on the left just couldn’t leave things alone. So the group “PopMob,” short for “Popular Mobilization,” showed up to counter-troll Patriot Prayer. Now you can pretty much guess that any group with the word “mob” in its name is out for trouble. And they had their support groups, too — immigrant rights groups and labor unions, also looking for trouble.

At first both sides complied by marching on their designated sides of the street, with the police in the middle of the street, separating them.

But eventually this happened:

Ok here we go: cops issue dispersal order to counter-protesters because they’ve “spotted people with weapons.” Say failure to disperse will lead to arrest and use of “impact weapons” and “riot control weapons.”

And then all hell broke loose.

There was blood in the streets. Literally.

As the afternoon wore on, a reporter from The Oregonian got hit in the head, and was bleeding profusely:

Of course the police took the heat from left-wing rage, too:

So why is all this happening to Portland? The easy answer, of course, is that Portland is a very leftwing city on the very leftwing West Coast. But there’s more.

Like the feckless mayor, Ted Wheeler. (And yes, I said ‘feckless.’)

In June, anti-ICE extremists called “Occupy ICE,” no doubt taking marching orders from Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, camped out near the entrance to an ICE office in Portland. They effectively shut down the office for eight days, until officers from the Department of Homeland Security came in to clear them out.

Meanwhile, while these scumbags were “occupying” the ICE offices, employees inside made 911 calls for help. But a high-up city official kept the police from responding — Mayor Ted Wheeler. Not only that, but Occupy ICE also harassed, threatened, and even assaulted locals going about their business. Why? Because Wheeler allowed it. From the Wall Street Journal:

They repeatedly called a black officer “traitor” and “house n—.” They shouted that they knew where the officers lived, and published more addresses online.

The same day Mayor Wheeler again pledged not to intervene. In a statement, he whitewashed the lawless behavior: “I join those outraged by ICE actions separating parents from their children, and support peaceful protest to give voice to our collective moral conscience.”

Occupy ICE even assaulted a disabled woman. But did that matter to Wheeler? Aw, hell no. If police made an arrest it would offend his “collective moral conscience,” or something:

Lisa Leonard, a 53-year-old disabled resident, said occupiers hit her on her head, disabled her electric wheelchair, and lifted her in the air when she complained about loud drumming. She called police, who took a statement but made no arrests.

Finally Portland Police Chief Danielle Outlaw (what a name!) told Wheeler that enough was enough. So the feds broke up camp and sent the occupiers packing, who weren’t very happy about it.

This is what you get when a mayor cares more about social justice causes than the safety of his city or its citizens. But the blood in the streets of Portland will continue to flow unless Ted Wheeler develops some cajones in tamping down the moon-bats who run amuck in his city. Problem is, though, that the mayor is one of the moon-bats, too.
