Oversight Hearing: Jason Chaffetz Excoriates Planned Parenthood Prez on Group’s Finances [VIDEO]

On Tuesday Planned Parenthood President, Cecile Richards, appeared before a House oversight committee to answer questions about why taxpayers should continue providing them federal tax dollars in the wake of the ten now-infamous undercover videos. Right out of the gate, Rep. Jason Chaffetz fired with both barrels, relating his compelling personal story, and excoriating Richards with the organization’s financial stats:

Aside from the barbarity exposed in the videos, Rep. Chaffetz makes excellent points. The central question is: Why does this private organization need our tax dollars? First and foremost, the feds are not tasked with funding anything outside the mandates of our Constitution. You won’t find “Planned Parenthood” anywhere in that document. Secondly, they are bartering the bodies of aborted babies like a commodity, abhorrent to millions of Americans. And lastly, they’re using millions of their yearly profits, pumped up by our tax dollars, to support Democrats and other progressive causes that in turn help keep them funded.

You can view the entire hearing here. Be warned, it’s a clown show at times.

Of course, Rep. Elijah Cummings, Head Obfuscator, was quick to attack the messenger, rather than address what looks like clear violations of federal law.

Nice work, Rep. Cummings. Your donation check from Planned Parenthood should be on its way any day now. Margaret Sanger would be proud.

Actually, I’m fairly sure Sanger would have despised Mr. Cummings as a member of an ‘inferior’ group, worthy of her organization’s “services”.

Probably would have considered him mentally unfit, as well.

Ah, yes, right you are, Kodos. It’s unfortunate that he appears to not know about that particular aspect of PP’s origins. Or doesn’t care as long as the dollars keep flowing to Democrats.

Hi, Julie. Thanks for visiting our blog. Can you point to where in the Constitution funding Planned Parenthood is? BTW, did you catch how much revenue, above and beyond expenses, they raked in last year? I’ll tell you: $127 million. Approximately 87% of which came from abortions, according to PP’s own president. They don’t need my tax dollars.

And finally: We are now saddled with Obamacare. Wasn’t that supposed to cover women’s healthcare? Why are we funding duplicate coverage? Double dipping, are we?

    • Rick Caird says:

Julie seems unaware that abortion was illegal in Nixon’s first term and was not legalized until 1973. I am quite certain Nixon did not see abortion as a part of family planning.

Second, the NPR report on PP repeats the same tired trope that abortion is only 3% of PP activities. That is true if you consider handing someone a 3 condoms equivalent of an abortion or referring them to a clinic for a mammogram equivalent an abortion. But, they are only equivalent if you are irrational.
