Comparing Hurricanes to The Holocaust: Just Stop!

Modern journalists just love to compare our current events to the holocaust especially when they can use Donald Trump in the same sentence. Jennifer Rubin is no exception when doing this. And they all wonder why Americans have a hard time taking journalism in the United States seriously. Look no further than the latest exhibit.

“Donald Trump has killed those people twice. Once through neglect in oversight, and secondly, disgracing [sic] that they died at all. And that’s what death denial, that’s what Holocaust denial, that’s what all these denial syndromes are all about, is killing the person twice.”-Jennifer Rubin, MSNBC

Was the response to Hurricane Maria an “unsung success” as Trump called it? Probably not. But was it ALL Trump? It’s doubtful.

Is any one, like me, fatigued yet of the constant comparing Trump’s administration to Hitler and his actions to that of the Holocaust? Does it anger anybody else that people are throwing the “h” word around like confetti? One of the most horrible atrocities in the history of our world—the Holocaust—is now being diminished in the eyes of Trump-haters across the country who are itching to prove a point. The victims of Hurricane Maria died twice and Trump’s denial in the face of this was “how the holocaust started”?

What about those pallets of water and shipping containers of supplies that ended up in a dumpster? Was San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz, who called out President Trump for what she saw as sub-par relief efforts (all while standing in front of pallets of unopened supplies), blameless in this endeavor?

So, according to the logic of Jennifer Rubins and her journalistic cohorts, Donald Trump has killed these people twice by denying their deaths and, therefore, an event such as Hurricane Maria is much like the holocaust? Yep. It’s all the President’s fault. Because he shipped a bunch of people who were not white to the island of Puerto Rico just in time for a natural disaster to hit. That’s what Hitler would do, right? And corrupt local agencies and governments are blameless in these atrocities, I suppose? What about the infrastructure that was in place before the event? And what about the local government and the people and their actions before, during and after the event while waiting for federal aid to arrive? Puerto Rico suffered blackouts on their grid long before Hurricane Maria, with Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority on the edge of insolvency. This was back in 2014, pre-Trump administration. Other key elements of infrastructure were crumbling as well with roads and bridges falling apart and hospitals in debt and hanging by a thread.

I imagine in the next few days, reports will be coming in assessing the latest damage caused by Hurricane Florence. Hurricane deaths will be counted, although we all know in the case of a natural disaster, those deaths are hard to count. How do we quantify them? People go missing. The elderly and sick who may have passed regardless of whether a hurricane hit or not. Donald Trump had better be careful to not make his counts too low in the next few months or he may be accused of denying an individual the dignity of acknowledging their death…and yeah, that’s how the holocaust starts according to these overpaid clowns.

Journalists, do yourselves a favor and back off of the word “holocaust”. Just stop. You’re not helping. It is an ugly word with a horrid past and should only be reserved to define those victims who have endured that terrible time in our history and serve as a reminder that this dark time in our history should NEVER be repeated. Offer victims of a hurricane dignity, yes, but do not use the “h” word to define them with the intent to further drive a biased wedge into your reporting. It makes you look divisive and insensitive and yes, Category 5 crazy.

    But was it ALL Trump?
Not a damn bit of it was Trump’s fault. Not a single, damn bit.

Therefore, the only conclusion we can draw is that Jennifer Rubin is a mindless journalistic hack parroting the Democrat party line
    ^this^

The ONLY way I would agree that the Harvard & GWU studies are right
Well…. those studies weren’t really pointing the finger at Trump, and certainly weren’t concluding what the media liked to make the headline.

    This was back in 2014
Hmmm, who would have been President then? It was some right-wing fascist white guy, right? I mean it had to be, since they had problems way back in 2014……………………
(BTW, PR should be cut loose from the US. They really don’t want to have a republican form of gov’t, and they really don’t want to be a contributing part of America, so cut them loose. We should not carry anywhere as a territory – especially with special privileges – in perpetuity.)

    that’s how the holocaust starts
No, the holocaust starts when you begin to dehumanize a certain subset (not ones grouped together by virtue of having violated laws or societal morality) of human beings, attempting to drive them out of polite society, and normalizing violence against them, while also making even the mildest support for them as something totally beyond the pale.
Now, gee, who does that sound like?
