Just the other day, the House and Senate in all their virtue signaling idiocy, passed a bill refusing to fund the border. Their reasoning? There is no crisis at the border. Trump, in a ceremony, on Friday vetoed the legislation.
In his statement Trump said the following:
“To the House of Representatives:
I am returning herewith without my approval H.J. Res. 46, a joint resolution that would terminate the national emergency I declared regarding the crisis on our southern border in Proclamation 9844 on February 15, 2019, pursuant to the National Emergencies Act.
As demonstrated by recent statistics published by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and explained in testimony given by the Secretary of Homeland Security on March 6, 2019, before the House Committee on Homeland Security, our porous southern border continues to be a magnet for lawless migration and criminals and has created a border security and humanitarian crisis that endangers every American. Last month alone, CBP apprehended more than 76,000 aliens improperly attempting to enter the United States along the southern border — the largest monthly total in the last 5 years. In fiscal year 2018, CBP seized more than 820,000 pounds of drugs at our southern border, including 24,000 pounds of cocaine, 64,000 pounds of methamphetamine, 5,000 pounds of heroin, and 1,800 pounds of fentanyl. In fiscal years 2017 and 2018, immigration officers nationwide made 266,000 arrests of aliens previously charged with or convicted of crimes. These crimes included approximately 100,000 assaults, 30,000 sex crimes, and 4,000 killings. In other words, aliens coming across our border have injured or killed thousands of people, while drugs flowing through the border have killed hundreds of thousands of Americans.””
You can read the entire statement here.
Yet the media, Democrats, and some Republicans would have us believe that there is no border crisis. That we don’t need a wall. That ICE and CBP don’t need any additional funding. In other words, because of Trump, all those on the left are happy to leave families and children in the lurch. Because it’s far better to stuff one’s head in the sand and ignore the realities on our border. Realities that the Washington Post helpfully points out here when discussing the smugglers ‘Conveyor Belt.’
“Criminal organizations in Mexico have mounted a lucrative new smuggling operation that uses express buses to deliver Guatemalan migrant families to the U.S. border in a matter of days, making the journey faster, easier and safer, according to U.S. law enforcement reports and U.S. and Guatemalan officials.
The smugglers entice families with promises their journey will be free of the perils usually associated with travel to the U.S. border, along with assurances that by turning themselves in to U.S. authorities they will be released into the country within days.
Paying up to $7,000 per adult with child, families are transported to staging areas at ranches and hotels in southern Mexico, where they are organized into bus groups and rushed north along Mexican highways, “stopping only for food, fuel and bathroom breaks,” according to the U.S. law enforcement documents.” [Emphasis Added]
In fact, those that make it to the border then enter illegally and demand asylum. But sure, tell me again that there isn’t a border crisis? Tell me again that criminals aren’t actively organizing to bring people to our southern border and smuggle them across? Tell me again that all those trying to come here are innocent and not trying to game the system? Tell me again how people aren’t actively engaged in putting lives at risk for money and to jeopardize our national security?
Using children as a diversion isn’t a crisis.
Last night, a human smuggler dropped two young Salvadoran girls, 6 and 9, from the aging border barrier behind concertina wire. As agents vacated their patrol positions in response, 10 people crossed illegally nearby. They eluded capture. #USBP #CBP #BORDER #BORDERSECURITY pic.twitter.com/t2QNmQLpoK

Previously removed sex offenders caught again isn’t a crisis by their definition. Smuggling fentanyl (that is killing thousands here in the U.S.) in one’s car battery isn’t a crisis. Greyhound is overwhelmed, but no crisis here, move along!
Greyhound told US officials to stop dropping off immigrants who have been released from custody inside its bus stations, @AP has learned. https://t.co/MbSGgoeHjD

Video captured 3/14 shows an illegal crossing of Central American migrants. None of the 52 people surrendered to the #USBP agent on the beach. All 52 people were eventually arrested after a 2 hour foot chase with multiple agents. Once in custody, everyone claimed asylum. #CBP pic.twitter.com/0gxH2lpNQc

Yet the Democrats refused funding to handle ALL of these issues. They made this about the wall and nothing else.
We don’t have enough resources to handle the thousands of asylum claims real or bogus. We don’t have enough resources to provide medical assistance. The ICE detention center in Aurora, CO is dealing with a major quarantine due to mumps, but Congress is ok with refusing additional resources to handle that because TRUMP! WALL! BAD!
Virginia, pull your damned head out of your ass. There is a border crisis and it’s past time you started to deal with it.

Nina,
Spot on as usual, Colorado is being ruined by these leftist policies, aided and abetted by all the leftists coming from california, as well as the mass of illegals in the state. Just look at the “red flag” legislation under consideration, as well as the un-constitutional bill just signed by our side-saddle governor to do away with the electoral college… Of course, this is the same governor that despite all the evidence that a storm of epic proportions was going to hit the state, waited until 4 hours into it, when over 1100 drivers were stranded in El Paso county alone, to issue an emergency declaration…Life is all about priorities, and his are clear..
Nina, yes it is a crisis but it does not mean emergency, according to those eminently far more intelligent than us scholarly minds in Washington who’s only mission in life is protecting us.
