A new deal from the Board of Peace has been announced. Hamas will disarm themselves in Gaza.

Sounds great! But is it really a good workable deal?

The United States has brokered a pathway to a deal between Hamas and the Israeli government for the Palestinian militant group to lay down its arms in Gaza in exchange for an eventual Israeli withdrawal from the territory, U.S. officials said Thursday, a potential breakthrough to end nearly three years of conflict there.

The framework was a potential step toward an Israeli pullout from Gaza and the eventual rebuilding of the territory, much of which has been reduced to rubble. But neither Hamas nor Israel immediately confirmed that they had signed on, and after years of fighting, there was little trust between the sides.

Let’s unpack that for a minute. So, Hamas in Gaza will surrender their arms, ammunition, bombs, missiles, and whatever else they have buried in underground tunnels, inside schools and hospitals, and in people’s homes under the parameters of this deal. Ok, I’ll bite. 

To whom will they surrender all this weaponry? And how will ANYONE know if ALL of it has been given up? Especially given the fact that there’s a timeline to the actual implementation and start of this disarmament process. 

Israel won’t be required to withdraw beyond the original Yellow Line until Hamas begins handing over its weapons, the first Board of Peace official tells The Times of Israel, adding that the IDF will only be allowed to respond to what are deemed as imminent threats.

Hamas and all other armed Palestinian factions will also be required to cease all military activity after the initial 14-day period is complete and the timelines for the entire roadmap are set, the second Board of Peace official says.

An Implementation Verification Committee (IVC) will be established to independently confirm that both sides are adhering to their commitments from the October 2025 ceasefire.

The roadmap will not advance to a subsequent phase of decommissioning, withdrawal or reconstruction until the completion of the phase before it has been confirmed by the IVC.

Again, how will this committee be able to truly verify that Hamas is fully disarmed? How many people will be on the committee? Will it truly be an independent committee that doesn’t have anyone from Gaza or Israel on it? We all know there were/are quite a number of “journalists” embedded in Gaza who have embraced Hamas. Some of them were there front and center during the October 7 attacks.

Keep in mind, this is a terrorist group, long funded by Iran, who is increasingly desperate because funds have been stalled or are drying up. Moreover, their hatred of Israel is baked into their DNA. 

The LEADERS of Hamas may have agreed to this deal, but that doesn’t mean the foot soldiers have.

Anyone who believes Hamas will disarm before it it has achieved — or been permanently blocked from — its founding goal of eliminating the Jewish state is delusional. Its 1988 charter and every action since October 7 say the same thing. Weapons are the last thing this organization gives up, not the first.

This is not disarmament. It’s a press release and a social media post from the president.

The Trump administration ran this exact play with Iran: announce a breakthrough, oversell the achievements, then watch reality catch up.

Unfortunately, I can see that happening with this Hamas deal. Especially as I read up on it and are seeing people report that the deal doesn’t necessarily involve Hamas giving up its heavy weaponry or even fully dismantling the tunnel system! That “might” happen down the road.

If that is the case, I want to know what the mediators were smoking when they got to this supposed agreement. 

Again, we need to remember that this is HAMAS we are talking about. This is the terrorist group responsible for numerous terrorist acts over the last few decades. And they are fully responsible for the October 7 attacks and taking 251 hostages, and holding them for over two years. Horrifically many were tortured and too many were killed in captivity, including the Bibas babies. 

This is who we are dealing with. A terrorist group funded by Iran with a rabid hatred of Israel. 

I’m far from the only one who is skeptical about this new deal. I know we want terrorists groups gone whether it’s via bombs from above or pagers going boom. But let’s have a big dose of reality here. Terrorists with a baked-in hatred of Israel and Jews will never voluntarily disarm. I’d like to be proven wrong, but time and again, they’ve used gambits like this to rearm and find new ways of inflicting terror around the world. 

Will Hamas disarm, actually hand over their weapons?? That’s the $64,000 question.
