If the last few days have set the rules on how you can get a TV show canceled, then Samantha Bee should be losing her TV show any minute now. Annnnnyyy minute now.
What? Are you telling me that *gasp* THERE’S A DOUBLE STANDARD??
What Roseanne Barr said was vile and awful – and don’t forget that amidst her ugly comments regarding Valerie Jarrett, she was also trolling Chelsea Clinton. Samantha Bee went straight up vulgar and gross on Ivanka Trump regarding the cute picture she posted of herself and her son that drove the left batty. And Samantha Bee scripted it and said it on camera.
“Ivanka Trump, who works at the White House, chose to post the second-most oblivious tweet we’ve seen this week,” Bee said. “You know, Ivanka, that’s a beautiful photo of you and your child, but let me just say, one mother to another, do something about your dad’s immigration practices, you feckless cunt!”
The remark drew loud cheers and applause.
The show thought enough of Bee’s Ivanka rant to post it as its own stand-alone video on the “Full Frontal” YouTube channel.
Bee added in her advice to Ivanka Trump that she should “put on something tight and low-cut and tell your father to fucking stop it.”
(NOTE: Since this post was published, the show’s YouTube Channel has removed both videos that showed this clip. This is the CNN coverage that shows the clip, with appropriate bleeping.)

Is this the new standard in addressing presidential daughters? If Roseanne had skipped Valerie Jarrett and said this about Chelsea Clinton (instead of her crazy “you’re married to a Soros” rant), she would have still been fired. Because this is just grotesque.
But Samantha Bee, who is known to be an awful person (forget the bad comedian part), will probably just skip away from this one.
The problem is, people noticed the glaring double standard.
This is disgusting. How is this acceptable? And how are we expected to take any of these publications seriously if they gleefully repost something like this at the same time they (rightfully) condemn @therealroseanne? You know the saying Love is Love? Well Hate is Hate. https://t.co/YTjmZQ4zMV

She’s like Jonathan Swift if Jonathan Swift had been an unpleasant, screechy moron https://t.co/XuCQNbEOB3

We're gonna get a lot of "well, the c-word is okay if I don't like the woman it's directed at" on Twitter today, huh?
— Jim Geraghty (@jimgeraghty) May 31, 2018
It's the liberal double standard again…..All that #MeToo stuff only applies if you lean left-Standing up for woman's rights????! BS!
— Tom (@TheLastReel) May 31, 2018
I’m sure @TBSNetwork promptly canceled Samantha Bee’s show after her vulgar remark about Ivanka Trump because those are the rules now right @therealroseanne? Or is there some view Samantha holds that makes her different? Just wondering where the consistency is guys… https://t.co/BWpxSqv3Mq

Let’s close our eyes and imagine Hillary Clinton as president and some conservative comedian calling Chelsea a “feckless c*nt.”
Tell us what the coverage would look like, @brianstelter.
— RBe (@RBPundit) May 31, 2018
We all know there would be a difference in the media coverage.
We all know there shouldn’t be.
And this, @brianstelter, is why people hate the media. It has nothing to do with Trump.
Everyone knows you’re corrupt.
— RBe (@RBPundit) May 31, 2018
Can anyone imagine how nuts the MSM would be if a conservative Republican called Nancy Pelosi a “feckless c-nt”. The outrage would be instant and overwhelming.
— Ari Fleischer (@AriFleischer) May 31, 2018
I get Roseanne’s comment involves race and Bee’s doesn’t, but I don’t think comparing them is false equivalence and think most of you who think it is would agree with me if it was someone other than a Trump being attacked.
— Erick Erickson (@EWErickson) May 31, 2018
Even Dictionary.com noticed.
The c-word is defined as a contemptuous term used to refer to a woman.
It's also defined as a term used to refer to a contemptible person.
E.g. Samantha Bee is under fire for using the c-word in reference to Ivanka Trump. https://t.co/97fdHQgVFs

So far, this is TBS Network’s response:

You are normalizing sexism and misogyny.
— #ThePersistence (@ScottPresler) May 31, 2018
Is this a joke? Please say it’s a joke. Y’all can’t possibly this out of touch.
— Elyse (@lysee_love) May 31, 2018
Could you imagine the outrage if this was Obama's daughters? They would never do such a thing. The double standard amazing.
— Brooklyn Guy (@brklynguy718) May 31, 2018
Ah yes, advancing social change by using the c word to insult another woman! Great example, and the exact word that we want to become normal to use in our society!Disgusting.

Why does TBS endorse Samantha calling @IvankaTrump a feckless cunt with a picture of her small child in the background?
— Yellow Red Sparks (@yellowredsparks) May 31, 2018
This tweet will not age well.
— Dan Tappin (@dantappin) May 31, 2018
We all know TBS, Turner Broadcasting, and Time Warner will do absolutely nothing unless it hurts the bottom line, so apparently it’s fair game for Samantha Bee to call Ivanka Trump a vile word because she knows her audience approves.
I’m being perfectly consistent here. ABC had every right to fire Roseanne Barr (though they knew they bought a bag of crazy and gave her a primetime show, so their Captain Renault-like protestations are laughable). TBS can keep Samantha Bee if they like, knowing that they have now condoned the use of this kind of language and therefore give up any moral authority to police anyone else’s speech. These are private companies that can do what they like when it comes to promoting or condemning the speech that their employees use.
What they cannot keep doing is expecting the public at large to not notice the flaming hypocrisy, or continue giving them a pass just because of who they like or dislike.
UPDATE 2:45 PM EDT
The pressure is on.
I would like to sincerely apologize to Ivanka Trump and to my viewers for using an expletive on my show to describe her last night. It was inappropriate and inexcusable. I crossed a line, and I deeply regret it.
— Samantha Bee (@iamsambee) May 31, 2018
Perhaps this is why?
Thank you to those who reached out regarding our sponsorship of Full Frontal. The comments expressed by Samantha Bee were offensive and unacceptable and do not reflect the views of our company. As a result, we have suspended our sponsorship of Full Frontal with Samantha Bee.
— Autotrader (@AutoTrader_com) May 31, 2018
Free speech is not free from consequences. Remember that the First Amendment only protects you from government coming after you for speech.
Will people accept the apology?
I guess you get to keep your neat award for social change now. https://t.co/WZfStkhEJd
— Stephen Miller (@redsteeze) May 31, 2018
Sam Bee deeply regrets a scripted bit that she regretted the second the backlash risked her future employment. Sincerely. https://t.co/xpn8de1aij
— Actually, Quite a Dignified M’Fin Pickle (@sunnyright) May 31, 2018
Say it on air. If your show was a fine place to air the offense it’s a fine place to air the apology. https://t.co/o0swQRzMUx
— Dana Loesch (@DLoesch) May 31, 2018
This bears remembering – Samantha Bee’s show is a scripted show. It’s not off-the-cuff stand up. This vicious language was written down on paper, filmed, and broadcasted on TBS, and no one said BEFORE this that “huh, maybe this might backfire”?
Here is TBS Network’s official response, which is essentially “her fault, our bad”:
Samantha Bee has taken the right action in apologizing for the vile and inappropriate language she used about Ivanka Trump last night. Those words should not have been aired. It was our mistake too, and we regret it.
— TBS Network (@TBSNetwork) May 31, 2018
The apology needs to be as widely broadcasted as the slur. It’s then up to viewers and sponsors to decide what Full Frontal With Samantha Bee‘s future looks like.
The c-word is the most reviled word in American English. In contrast, certain social groups have free license to use the n-word. There is no socially acceptable context for the c-word.
Samantha Bee is exactly the type of feckless C**T that I would not want my daughter to look up to. Sam can always serve as a shining example of “what not to do”.
The only award Samantha Bee should received is a bar of Ivory Soap in her mouth.
Yeah, if anyone on the right had said the same about Chelsea Clinton, or either of the JEF’s daughters, and (rightfully so), the media would have come unglued… but I guess rude, vulgar, crass and inappropriate “humor”/comments are just to be expected from the left. It’s only shocking / wrong if it comes from someone on, or perceived to be on the right…
David Lentz says: “The c-word is the most reviled word in American English.”
Undoubtedly it is a word that has always been beyond acceptable, especially in mixed settings, but it is now, increasingly, a favourite word of the left and openly used, even by women, to revile others with whom they do not agree. Presenters/would-be comedians on an Australian Broadcasting Corporation [national, government funded] TV station recently demonstrated their lack of imagination and puerile vocabulary by using the C-word. Of course they may do so with impunity as the Australian ABC is completely left-leaning from top to bottom though, as a taxpayer funded entity with a billion dollar budget, it is meant to be neutral.
Of one thing I am certain – and the attacks on this mother and child demonstrate it well – hate is the primary ‘essence’ or ingredient of Social Justice Warriors the world over, closely followed by hypocrisy and an inability to think logically.
The apology needs to be as widely broadcasted as the slur.
Heck, it will be *more* widely broadcast – because the media will play it up as “see, nothing to this, she apologized, move along now.” Unlike most corrections, this will get more play than the original crap did on the LSM channels.
