There was a moment where Elizabeth Warren might have had a chance for higher office. Those days are long gone, and she will be a senator from Massachusetts until she dies (if she chooses).
But she would still like to be a leader in the Senate, which means putting herself out there on podcasts and the like. After her most recent experience, though, Warren is probably reconsidering all of her life choices.
Warren was on a “friendly” podcast on Sunday, where this horrifically awkward exchange happened between herself and the host, Sam Fragoso, regarding Joe Biden’s physical and cognitive decline during his presidency.
Warren appeared on the “Talk Easy with Sam Fragoso” podcast on Sunday where the left-leaning host asked whether she regretted saying Biden “had a sharpness to him” up until he dropped out of the 2024 presidential election.
“I said what I believed to be true,” Warren said.
“You think he was as sharp as you?” Fragoso pushed back.
Warren gave a long pause where she appeared to hold back a laugh at the question.
“I said I had not seen decline,” she finally responded, turning her head and giving Fragoso a pointed look that he then reciprocated. “And I hadn’t at that point.”
Fragoso pressed Warren further, expressing skepticism over her not seeing any decline in Biden during his time in office.
“The thing is,” Warren began uncertainly. “Look, he was sharp. He was on his feet. I saw him… live event. I had meetings with him a couple of times…”
“Senator, ‘on his feet’ is not praise,” Fragoso argued. “‘He can speak in sentences’ is not praise.”
Warren seemed to softly laugh at his comments while replying, “Fair enough.”
You don’t need a body language expert to see just how uncomfortable Warren is. She’s caught in a trap of her own making, and she knows it. And Fragoso isn’t mean about his questions, but he pressed Warren in order to prove the point.

Warren is hardly unique in being part of the tacit cover-up of Joe Biden’s cognitive failures, either by omission or commission, but she comes with the unfortunate baggage of insisting that “all was well, nothing to see here” on video. On a podcast recorded before the debate last year, Warren was insisting that Biden was totally fine.
After the debate, the conversation shifted, quite literally.

That now infamous debate may well be one of the biggest turning points in American presidential history. That single 90 minute debate put the lie to everyone who had been defending Biden for years, embarrassed the media who had participated in that lie, and now the media is rushing to profit off that lie. However, there are no consequences (so far) for elected officials who participated in that lie. The best that happens are moments like these, where Elizabeth Warren gets confronted with her own past positions, and is made to squirm over the very obvious. She could maybe save herself a little cringe by admitting that her blindness was willful, no one like to see friends or acquaintances decline with age, or something along those lines. But Warren isn’t even prepared to go that far, instead lamely claiming that “he was on his feet.” Awesome.
The real truth is that if Washington at large, and Congress more specifically, were honest, most people would come away with a story like Speaker Mike Johnson’s, where he recounted that Biden thought an executive order he had signed was something different, and had no memory of what he had actually signed. But Democrats wouldn’t and couldn’t admit that, and by the time the debate blew the doors off the cover-up in a way that not even the media could deny, it was too late in the process to start over.
Elizabeth Warren is going to continue on her mostly merry way, but she should be haunted by questions like these for quite some time. In fact, all but a select handful of Democrats should be asked these questions. The answers – and the squirming – would be illuminating.

“If she chooses” is in a somewhat awkward place in the first paragraph!
Very thoughtful comment overall.
