Military veterans who are VERY unhappy with Donald Trump. It seems he’s still refusing to Show Them The Money!
As our readers will recall, Trump threw a hissy fit in January about Megyn Kelly’s moderating the Fox News Debate. So he boycotted and set up a grandiose fundraiser for veteran organizations around the country. And then bragged about his good deed.
Right off the bat, there was something rotten in the land of Trump fundraising. Jodi pointed out two major hiccups here, chiefly that the donations flow to Trump’s personal foundation and Trump spox couldn’t name a single Vet organization that will benefit.
I don’t know about you, but those are some pretty hefty red flags right there. Soon after the fundraiser, others began questioning how much was actually raised during the event, how much money was donated from friends of Trump, and what happened to the purported $6 million total? As of April 8, 2016 – $4 million or more was unaccounted for and veterans charities had received zero dollars and zero communication from the Trump camp.
Next up, as Kim wrote here, we find out that not only does no one from the Trump camp know where the money went, they truly Don’t Care.
“I could ask, but it’s not high on my priority list,” Baldasaro told the Daily Beast. He continued, “I don’t track that. I’m not concerned about it, because I know [Trump is] an honorable, honest guy . . .you guys just want to say, ‘gotcha.’”
Newsflash to Donald Trump and the Trump campaign. There are a whole slew of veterans who, rightfully so, are demanding that you realign your priorities regarding veterans and cough up the money you promised those organizations!
More than 50 veterans released a statement Sunday calling on presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump to show respect for the country’s veterans and donate the millions of dollars he allegedly raised during a fundraiser several months ago.
“Donald Trump recently discovered a new love for America’s veterans, promising that a Trump administration will ‘treat them really, really well,’” the statement released by Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton’s campaign said.
“Yet after a publicity stunt earlier this year when he ditched a GOP debate to hold an event on behalf of veterans, his campaign still hasn’t distributed more than half of the $6 million dollars it allegedly raised.”
The statement signed by veterans, including Democratic Reps. Ruben Gallego (Ariz.) and Seth Moulton (Mass.), said Trump’s campaign doesn’t even know where the money raised during that event went.
The full statement along with the list of veterans who signed it can be found here.
“It’s time for Donald Trump to stop using vets as political props, donate the rest of the money he raised and build a real understanding of the needs and concerns of the men and women who have served America.”
Ouch. YUUUGE Ouch.
Trump says he supports our military. He says he supports our veterans. Given the fact that the funds raised for our veterans are still MIA, I’d say actions speak louder than words.
I find it strange that I see no stories about the people who gave the money being angry that it hasn’t been given to the vets. One would think there would be outrage from the donors, but apparently not. It seems odd.
