Trump’s Foreign Intel Comments Get Everyone’s Knickers In A Twist

Trump’s response to the foreign intel question has everyone’s knickers in a twist. In a major interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, quite a number of topics were covered including the Mueller Report and Russia collusion. Here’s Trump’s response to George’s question regarding foreign intel.

Another look at his response.

This is my takeaway.

Someone shows up and tells you they have info on your opponent. Key word being ‘info.’ Yet one is supposed to go running to the FBI because someone said they have ‘info’ even though we don’t know what it is?

Trump says he would listen. Key word is LISTEN. However, quite a number of folks took that to mean that Trump would USE the information he listened to. Ummm…watch the above again. Did he say that? Did he indicate that?

If someone sidles up to you and whispers they have the biggest dirt of all time on your opponent, but don’t say WHAT it is, what do you do? Run screaming to the FBI saying someone said something! Or listen to what they have to say and then take actionable info to the FBI?

Trump emphasized opposition research several times. Something that good ole Georgie should be very familiar with given his time with the Clinton campaign machine. Yet George is acting like he’s never heard of oppo research before. RIIIGHT.

Meanwhile a bunch of other folks who definitely know the ins and outs of oppo research are virtue signaling with their knickers in a knot.

First off – the FEC Chair:

“Federal Elections Commission chair Ellen Weintraub said Thursday it is illegal to accept foreign interference during elections after President Trump publicly suggested he would accept foreign intel on opponents.

“I would not have thought that I needed to say this,” Weintraub tweeted Thursday with her statement.

“Let me make something 100 percent clear to the American public and anyone running for public office: It is illegal for any person to solicit, accept, or receive anything of value from a foreign national in connection with a U.S. election,” Weintraub said.”

A. Trump didn’t say he’d solicit anything from a foreign national

B. Is listening to what the info is defined as acceptance? I’d say the FEC needs to be clearer on that

C. Did the Trump campaign receive anything of value from Russia during the campaign? Answer is NO

Of course she’s going to stay on the impeachment track! Which no doubt thrilled Adam Schiff to no end.

““Our foreign adversaries listen to every president — every word the president of the United States has to say, as we clearly saw when he encouraged the Russians to hack his opponents’ emails and hours later they tried to do exactly that,” Schiff (D-Calif.) told POLITICO. “So I think he has invited another round of interference. As long as it’s to help his campaign, he seems more than happy to engage in any act, no matter how unethical or unlawful.””

Adam is so cute! He has refused to acknowledge the Steele Dossier is a load of horse shit, yet continually beats the drum of Trump Russia Collusion! His persistence is admirable and laughable.

Ok, great! So you turned away all oppo research for your campaigns?

Listening doesn’t change anything, it’s a learning tool. However, if one then ACTS on that info by promising something in return, then yes, it’s a whole different ball game.

Does Trump or ANYONE ELSE (Hi Hillary!) have a duty to report that they’ve found another country is actively spying on the U.S.? Absolutely. Did Trump say he wouldn’t do that? NO

Don’t get me wrong, is it is a bad idea to ignore what foreign intel they are trying to provide? No. I think that if you don’t LISTEN, you won’t learn what they have that could be detrimental to your campaign or to our country’s national security. Running to the FBI with ‘they have INFO!’ is quite a bit different from being able to tell the FBI the particulars of the info that was presented.

I think everyone needs to unknot their knickers just a bit on this.

    FIFY, Schiffhead

I agree that everyone needs to “unknot their knickers.”

Not sure I agree that Trump’s statement is a good one. I think this is another example of him talking without a filter.

Having said that, I also don’t think getting info from foreigners is really “foreign interference”. The usage of any info (to me, anyway) would depend on whether it was acquired in contravention of our laws. Was it via Alexa wiretap? Was it because some foreign agency hacked into the IRS? All bad.
However, if he talks in his sleep, and he’s sleeping around, that seems fair game – regardless whether it was a porn star, a NYC streetwalker, or a Russkie spy. Or, maybe he’s meeting with certain people, known to be gangsters. Or those meets are with communists. Now, the credibility of the witness is an issue, but I wouldn’t ever just throw that crap out there, without developing my own evidence. You know, like the FBI should have done after receiving the “Steele Dossier”.

Pelosi passed sentence on the Democrats. Hilary, the DNC, Holder, Lynch the Washington office of the FBI and DOJ and others involved are, according to Pelosi, now guilty of treason.
