Trump Hush Money Trial Jury Selection Begins – Here We Go

D.A. Alvin Bragg’s hush money case against former (and future) President Donald Trump has begun jury selection. What a cluster fark! The cast of characters involved includes a porn star Stormy Daniels, a Playboy model, a gossip magazine’s former owner named Pecker, an arrogant District Attorney named Bragg, AND a two-time impeached President who has had unprecedented lawfare unleashed against him. Heading up this Fark farce is a tiny putz named Judge Merchan, whose daughter is a Democrat Operative. She is really a consultant, but charged words are better than regular words. Here we go.

I wrote about Megyn Kelly’s prediction that Trump would be found guilty in this “hush money” hot mess. I stand by my agreement with her argument. I hope we are wrong, but it’s lawfare so.

Bitter female Proglodyte Amanda Marcotte spewed this in today’s Salon online:

Daniels, whose legal name is Stephanie Clifford, is expected to testify in Trump’s Manhattan criminal trial, which is scheduled to begin this week. While she has always said that the sex was “consensual,” we can see why Trump was intent on silencing her after the 2016 release of the infamous “Access Hollywood” tape in which he brags about sexually assaulting women. Her story wasn’t dangerous because it was evidence of adultery. It was yet more evidence of Trump’s long history of acting entitled to women’s bodies.

Trump never bragged about “sexually assaulting” women. Oh, these people.

I have heard women say a lot worse, but all of a sudden THESE women become born-again virgins whose delicate ears are scarred by this kind of talk. Puh-leeze. Judge Merchan has ruled that the tape can’t be played but the transcript of the “pussy” tape can be read. I just rolled my eyes so hard that they almost fell out of my head.

WHAT IS A CATCH AND KILL SCHEME?

Well! If you watched “Downton Abbey” you have seen a “catch and kill” scheme. When Lady Mary was seeing magazine owner Sir Richard, he paid off Mr. Bates’ ex-wife so that Vera wouldn’t spread the story that Lady Mary was possibly not virtuous and that she may have been with poor Mr. Pumuk when he died. A story is caught and then killed. Usually for money and a non-disclosure agreement. That’s what happened with Mr. Pecker and Playboy model Karen McDougal. So Mr. Pecker owns American Media with titles like the Globe and National Enquirer:

Next came Karen McDougal, a Playboy bunny–turned–fitness instructor, who approached the Enquirer in June 2016 claiming to have had a months-long affair with Trump in 2006 around the time his third wife, Melania Trump, gave birth to their son Barron.

Trump has denied the affair.

American Media agreed to pay McDougal $150,000 for the story, plus an arrangement for her to write a series of fitness columns for some of the publisher’s other magazines. Her story was then put on ice, prosecutors said.

Cohen would later set up a shell company called Resolution Consultants LLC through which he planned to acquire the rights to the McDougal story. But American Media decided to call the deal off and hang on to the story, after lawyers raised the concern that such a transaction could be considered a campaign-finance violation.

It was only after the Wall Street Journal published details of the payoff to McDougal that American Media followed through on having her write a handful of fitness columns.

Oh, get bent. Like, there is so much worse that goes on every damn day that my outrage meter doesn’t even register this.

WHAT IN CORNBREAD HELL HAS ALVIN BRAGG CHARGED TRUMP WITH?

I am going to let the Washington Examiner explain this shite show:

“The bottom line for me was that the ‘zombie’ case was very strong,” Pomerantz wrote in his book. “But was it a crime under New York law?”

Pomerantz has said Vance’s office looked into the payment in 2019 after federal prosecutors in the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Manhattan completed their own case without bringing charges against Trump. Pomerantz has also said that since Trump was a presidential candidate, Vance found it wasn’t clear whether intent to conceal a federal crime would support state-level charges.

Under New York law, falsifying business records with the intent to defraud is a misdemeanor offense and only becomes a felony if the defendant intended to commit, aid, or conceal a separate crime. But Trump is not charged with a separate crime in this case.

The hurdle for prosecutors is to prove that the scheme was intended to conceal violations of campaign finance and tax laws, though it is not all too clear whether any witness can testify that Trump actually knew about the legal implications or specifically intended to sway the election. The indictment lays out how the payments to Daniels would be structured but leaves out any reason as to why that atypical arrangement was adopted.

Ultimately, it will be up to prosecutors to have a card up their sleeve to show more evidence for Trump’s awareness of the legal implications. If they can show this, Trump could ask the judge to give the jury an option to convict Trump instead of the lesser misdemeanor offense of falsifying business records.

I have no idea whether Trump had relations with either of these women. I don’t give a fat rat’s backside. We were told years ago that it’s just sex. Money gets paid. So what? This is an assault on America, our election systems and the law:

Go Donald Trump and I will be honored to vote for you again.

So you seriously believe that rich men should have free rein to assault women whenever they feel like it? Have you ever talked to a woman who has been assaulted or harassed? One of the most common reactions is to freeze, which isn’t exactly giving permission. Women will also sometimes try and diffuse the situation by laughing it off and gently pushing the man’s hand away or some such other reaction. None of those are “permission.”

Nancy O’Dell, the woman at the center of the Access Hollywood tape, herself has not dismissed it or acted like it was ok. You can drink all the orange Kool-Aid you want, but it doesn’t change both the seriousness of the charges of this election interference case or the awfulness of the Access Hollywood tape.

Also, I find it odd that you’re ok with Trump harassing women because he’s rich but you and the other women who write for this blog always make a big deal about Bill Clinton. I guess it’s only ok if you’re a certain rich, former president…
