Left-Feminist apologizes

Dr. Naomi Wolf, in an open letter to Conservatives, offers a “full-throated apology” over the LARPer Riot of January 6, 2021.

I made mistakes in judgement, and that these mistakes, multiplied by the tens of thousands and millions on the part of people just like me, hurt millions of other people like you all, in existential ways. (snip)

I believed a farrago of lies. And, as a result of these lies, and my credulity — and the credulity of people similarly situated to me – many conservatives’ reputations are being tarnished, on false bases.

The proximate cause of this letter of apology is the airing, two nights ago, of excepts from tens of thousands of hours of security camera footage from the United States Capitol taken on Jan 6, 2021. The footage was released by House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) to Fox News commentator Tucker Carlson

Wolf’s piece is well worth reading in total. She not only notes the J6 lies but goes through all the dishonesty from her own journalistic peers over the past few years and comes to the realization:

The gatekeepers who lie to the public about the most consequential events of our time — and who thus damage our nation, distort our history, and deprive half of our citizenry of their right to speak, champion and choose, without being tarred as would-be violent traitors – deserve our disgust.

I am sorry the nation was damaged by so much untruth issued by those with whom I identified at the time.

There is much on which I will disagree with Dr. Wolf, but not this.

Let me lift my glass in her direction and say, as for me, “Apology accepted.”

I agree with about 60% of what Germain Greer says here; however, Greer and the lot of second-wave feminists of the 1960s seem unaware that they are reaping what they sowed. And Greer is still stuck on the ‘blank slate’ side of the nature v. nurture debate by continuing to promote the idea that males and females are fungible. Feminity and masculinity are not imposed. They are terms used to describe well documented personality traits and while there is more of an overlap than not of these traits, the sexes as two distinct groups do exhibit not insignificant differences. Unless Greer and other feminists comes to grips with the whole being of womanhood they will never be able to fully reject males-who-want-to-be-women.

I’m old enough to remember when, post- 9/11, we mocked TSA, et al, for conducting pat-down searches of 80 year old grannies and autistic children in wheelchairs cuz fairness. We used to sneer about the dreaded threats from Berserker Baptists and Pissed-Off Presbyterians. Who knew it was just a dry run of pivoting to tracking and targeting American deplorables?

Amazing how all the world’s problems – war, famine, microaggressions – are directly the fault of White people. Always. And in a moment of unfathomable sorrow and deep thoughts, writer of pallor Sammy Roth of the Los Angeles El Segundo Times is here to pay penance for the crime of driving while white.

Like many Angelenos, I spend a lot of time behind the wheel of my car. (snip)

So I couldn’t help but consider my own complicity while reading a new study from USC researchers, finding that Angelenos who drive more tend to be exposed to less air pollution — and Angelenos who drive less tend to be exposed to more pollution. (snip)

Today, many residents of the county’s whiter, more affluent neighborhoods — who were often able to keep highways out of their own backyards — commute to work through lower-income Black and Latino neighborhoods bisected by the 10, 110 and 105 freeways and more. (snip)

As a white guy who’s lived on L.A.’s Westside for most of my life, I’ve benefited from the region’s sordid history as well. Much as I try to do my part — taking the train a couple times a month, walking to local coffee shops and restaurants instead of driving across the city — there’s no question I contribute to the inequitable air pollution that Boeing’s study describes.

Oh, Sammy Sammy Sammy. We feel your pain. We understand your impulse to bare that hairless white chest to the public in penance to BIPOC folx you treat so shamelessly. You can’t help being an oppressor who oppresses by your mere existence.
