She took a huge risk that paid off. She was that person who stepped up when needed.
Outnumbered 5 to 1, a student at William Shemin Midtown Community School in Bayonne, was set upon by his peers, only for his teacher to intervene, shielding his prone body with her own.
Recorded by nearby security cameras, the scene saw 56-year-old Cathy Hurley try and prevent violence from starting between a group of teens while she was walking to her parked car. (snip)
ABC 7 reports that all five teens were charged with assault, endangering an injured victim, and rioting, while the young boy was taken to the hospital.
I will note that some are describing her actions as selfless. I understand what they are trying to say, but it wasn’t selfless as she was acting according to her own principles. She felt the value of individual life and principle of justice was worth her risking her personal safety. That’s not selfless at all. And BRAVA to Ms. Hurley.

NTSOG says: Of course any man intervening might be charged with assaulting the poor helpless young teens just because he’s a man. A woman would never be charged. 40+ years ago I, then a much younger male PE teacher teaching in a high school, hauled some lads off another boy they were thumping around. Back then it was expected that men would intervene and there was no issue. Nowadays when all men are suspect, I’m not sure it would be legally safe to intervene.

I’m perfectly OK with this. AS LONG AS you also remove all liability for a car or bicyclist running them over if they are anywhere but a crosswalk and crossing with the light. Period. I say let the libertarian impulse in this case flow.

They can’t. It’s part of the package deal – hedonism means ALL hedonism. And transhumanism. Once you remove the guard rail of the Creator’s Law, it’s not like you can install it partway down the cliffside. It’s gone.
