It is almost amusing to watch the degree that a non-Christian writer at Salon will go to in applauding the “harm” the Talarico campaign will do to GOP Christians by demonstrating that “real” Christianity is Leftwing.

Non-Christian and rad-feminist scold, Amanda Marcotte, is now both an expert on Christian theology and is out to show how much James Talarico is the perfect avatar of Christ on earth in the 21st Century.

All politics are identity politics. Republicans have long mocked this notion, treating the very concept of “identity politics” as a left-wing fixation. In reality, the GOP’s success is entirely due to the cheapest form of identity politics: For decades, but especially now, they have worked to distract voters from the party’s ruinous policies with appeals to their identity as white, provincial and, most importantly, Christian. This campaign has been enormously successful. White evangelicals have been the backbone of the GOP for decades not because they love tax cuts for the rich and environmental degradation, but because they have been told, repeatedly, that Democrats are demonic and there is no such thing as a liberal Christian.

So much to unpack in that opening paragraph of AWFL delusion.

GOP policies are “ruinous”.
GOP are hypocrites on “identity politics”
GOP love “tax cuts for tHE riCh!”
GOP love destroying “the environment”
GOP are racist (cuz yte ppl)

Poor little Mandy has beaten this drum in one form or another since her debut as a child-hating female supremacist at Feministing years ago. So, no surprise she’s all in with the false Christian, James Talarico.

White evangelical leaders keep their flocks voting for Republicans by implying that they are somehow abandoning the identity of “Christian” if they choose to vote for Democrats. The fact that many Democratic politicians are also Christian doesn’t register because they usually don’t foreground their religious identity in the same way as Republicans, who wave Bibles and pray loudly.

Talarico, though, has centered his Christian identity in his campaign.

Oh? Exactly what makes polygamy “Christian”? How is it “Christian” to support the medical mutilation and sterilization of children? How is it “Christian” to support males who mock women and target children?

Mandy declares Democrats should be a better fit for people who claim allegiance to Jesus Christ, who called on followers to feed the hungry and welcome the stranger. without an ounce of understanding that Jesus never said “Go forth and petition Caesar to seize your neighbors’ crops and redistribute them.” Likewise, the “welcoming the stranger” has no more to do with government refusal to enforce national borders than “turning the other cheek” means government refusal to enforce laws on assault, theft, and murder.

James Talarico has as much to do with being a Christian as Dylan Mulvaney does with being a woman.

Or Amanda Marcotte with being a serious thinker.
