Color us surprised.
Earlier this week, a video of a doctor discussing the sale of organs of aborted babies went viral. That doctor is Deborah Nucatola and, according to the Daily Caller. Nucatola is currently employed at Sexual Health Innovations, founded by former Obama White House staffer Jessica Ladd. Senior Obama administration officials sit on the board of the abortion activist group, including Praveen Basaviah of the President’s Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS and Kyle Bernstein of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The IRS-approved 501(c)3 tech nonprofit is a major Obama administration contractor.
At this point in time, inquiries made to Sexual Health Innovations regarding Nucatola’s level of compensation went unanswered.
Nucatola also wrote an op-ed in 2007 for The Ventura Country Reporter railing the Bush administration’s global gag rule preventing advocacy groups from counseling women to have abortions.
“Today is International Women’s Day, a time to pause and reflect upon the barriers that women throughout the world encounter on a daily basis as they aim to achieve equality, freedom, social advancement and the right to choose freely whether or when to have children. Despite recent advances, women in the United States and abroad continue to suffer the consequences of a right-wing U.S. administration that has put politics before health and ideology before science.”- Deborah Nucatola
Here we go with “science”, again. Because they’re sooooo “smart” and any one who opposes abortion clearly is an uneducated imbecile who has lived under a rock for years and clearly hates science. Typical liberal argument. The rant goes on:
“In developing countries, access to family planning is often a matter of life or death. One woman dies every minute due to pregnancy-related causes and an estimated 68,000 women die each year as a result of unsafe abortion complications — numbers that could be greatly reduced with expanded access to contraception.
The policies of the Bush administration do not represent America at its best, nor do they represent the values that the majority of Americans hold dear. Determined to end the global gag rule, Congresswoman Nita Lowey, D-N.Y., joined by lead Republican Rep. Chris Shays, R-Conn., reintroduced the Global Democracy Promotion Act — intended to repeal the global gag rule. Repealing the global gag rule would only be the first step in ensuring women’s right to reproductive health care, but it is a crucial step.
We must continue to insist that global access to family planning is a healthcare issue and not a political one. I ask you to contact your member of Congress and urge him or her to support the Global Democracy Promotion Act so that family planning organizations in developing nations can receive the U.S. funding they need to expand the reproductive health care services and programs we know are successful in saving women’s lives.”
She continues to refer to the gag order as a means of discouraging “family planning.” The “Global Gag Rule”, drafted initially in 1984 by the Regan administration (also called “Mexico City Policy,”) prohibited overseas Non-governmental organizations from receiving U.S. funds if, with their own funds and in accordance with the laws of their own countries, they “perform[ed]” or “actively promote[d] abortion as a method of family planning.” Further, the Reagan Administration issued extremely restrictive regulations that interpreted the phrase “abortion as a method of family planning” to mean all abortions, except when performed in cases of rape, incest, or when the life (but not health) of the woman would be endangered if the fetus was carried to term. The Clinton Administration ended the Global Gag Rule in 1993 by executive order which was reimposed by George W. Bush in 2001.
In essence, the Global Gag Rule stated that the U.S. would not fund abortions for women in foreign countries. It said nothing about the lack of funding available for birth control or well-woman screenings-it just took abortion away as a viable option by not defining it as a means of birth control.
If you’re like me, I’m still not sure how abortion fits into “family planning.” Abortion is one of the results of an unplanned pregnancy. I don’t know any woman who plans to have an abortion. The narrative that abortion falls under the umbrella of “reproductive health” is absurd. But, in the liberal mindset, it is clumped into the same category of well-woman health screenings and access to birth control. Abortion is NOT women’s “health care.” In fact, the negative physical and psychological implications are many.
Don’t let Nucatola’s “compassionate” appeal against the Bush administration fool you into thinking that she truly cares about the women of this world, though. Despite all of the negatives that come into play after a woman aborts her child, Nucatola co-authored a medical journal in favor of eliminating the routine postoperative surgical abortion visit and posted the following photo onto her Photobucket account (which has since gone private because hey, she has nothing to hide, right?):
The t-shirt is the chemical composition of hydrocodone-acetaminophen-a drug commonly used for pain control in first-trimester abortion.
Yep. Because nothing says “advocate for women’s reproductive rights” quite like eating dinner while discussing the harvesting of baby organs, not caring to follow up with abortion patients for after-care and the proud display of the chemical composition of hydrocodone-acetaminophen.
I have no words. Actually, I do…. but they’re not fit to print.
I think I need some of that drug about now-I feel my head is about to explode from all the crappy news like this we’ve gotten this week.
