In retrospect, Austin was ahead of the curve in progressive values and norms. It was like having one foot in Mayberry and another in Beverly Hills 90210. I had more than one gay friend in high-school and years later Facebook had confirmed I had known many, many more. But the latest in California’s news of the weird reminded me of another enlightening moment in my early twenties. My best friend’s roommate “Sarah” was getting married. Sarah was in an emotional pickle. She wanted her dad to walk her down the aisle, but Dad wouldn’t agree unless he could do so in a dress. Her dilemma was compounded by the fact that dad’s wife presented as a man. As Yahoo News reported yesterday, if Sarah’s dad and Stepmom lived in Palm Springs today, they could be making $1800 a month, regardless of any other earnings! Who among us wouldn’t consider pretending to be transgender to make a little extra money these days?? Especially in a state where gasoline is over $7/gallon? Is this sheer madness or part of an agenda?
“Transgender residents in Palm Springs, California are eligible to receive a UBI of up to $900 per month solely for identifying as transgender or nonbinary — no strings attached.
[snip]Twenty transgender and nonbinary Palm Springs residents will receive the free money funded by the taxpayers for 18 months, with advocacy-based health center DAP Health and LGBT advocacy group Queer Works managing the program.”
I don’t keep up with Hollywood today, they lost me years ago. I don’t know who’s “in” or “out”. Not sure anymore who is famous or just infamous. But I did watch a LOT of television when I was younger. M.A.S.H. was so influential to me that I have (don’t judge) the tissues I cried with during the last episode. Upon reading this Yahoo article, I just kept thinking that the Palm Spring’s Basic Universal Income (BUI) proposal will just encourage residents to be Klinger, the wacky Corporal Klinger who was forever trying to escape the Army by pretending to be a woman:
As I re-watched this clip, I couldn’t help but realize that none of those scenes could be aired today. Most will have “trigger” warnings at some point soon. We are living through the craziest of times. I have had many conversations with friends and relative strangers in the last few months about the dawning realization that as the Left moves ever leftward, I am being forced to move ever more rightward in an attempt to just keep our world in the middle! I still am in favor of gay marriage, personally I believe marriage is God-given, big “R” right. Two consenting adults and I don’t really give a fig.
At least there’s a bit of push back on the Palm Springs proposal. Carl DeMaio is a gay Republican and former San Diego City Counselman. He had this to say about Palm Springs plan:
“We’re completely opposed to guaranteed or universal basic income programs, because they ultimately cause inflation and raise the cost of living on everyone — they don’t work,” DeMaio said in a statement.
“But at least some of them have minimum income requirements to qualify, whereas this one is no-strings-attached ‘woke’ virtue signaling to the LGBT community in a way that is not only offensive but discriminatory.”
Look, the notion that we can just swap genders Willy-Nilly, push such notions on children, and bait people into “identifying” as male or female is a bridge too far. I wrote the other day that Elizabeth Warren thinks school loans are a “gender justice” issue. What the ever livng hell? We seriously have a political class that is waving big golden carrots to normalize gender dysphoria. A radio host up in Seattle points out the grift on Tucker Carlson:
Palm Springs hopes to use taxpayer funds for guaranteed income exclusively for transgender residents. That's… wrong. But it's part of a much bigger scheme. I explained on Tucker Carlson Tonight. pic.twitter.com/gfIq0xmNx4

This is all part of the larger culture war we are in these days. Whether that is over CRT, LGBTQ-LMNOP, or abortion, the Left is literally going for broke, and the GOP needs to point that out!

It’ll be great when they have everything taken from them, and they’re happy about it.
