One of the standouts in the Trump Administration 2.0 has been Marco Rubio as Secretary of State.

His single-minded focus on doing his job in foreign policy, and staying on top of multiple spinning plates, has been gratifying to watch. Last night, Rubio gave an interview to Sean Hannity to update the public on several situations around the world, which can be seen in full here.

On the top of everyone’s minds is the situation in the United Kingdom. Nina updated our readers yesterday about the foiled terror plot, that was only discovered thanks to the sharp eyes and persistent calls from a farmer in the area by RAF Fairford, and that the authorities have let all five arrested OUT ON BAIL. Whose genius idea was that?

It seems obvious as to why this happened at RAF Fairford. Back in July, the IRGC claimed that Fairford was a “legitimate target.”

The UK has allowed the US to launch “defensive” operations from British bases hosting American personnel and aircraft, while refusing to cooperate in offensive operations against Iran.

Iran’s foreign ministry said the UK was an “accomplice” in the US war, while the powerful Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) military wing said any country which supports the US militarily “will be responsible for the consequences and repercussions”.

In a statement published on the IRGC-linked Tasnim News Agency on 23 July, the group said American bombing missions had been launched from RAF Fairford two days earlier.

Conveniently, the Iranians are now saying “who, US? How dare you say such a thing” after the arrests.

The five men, all British nationals from London in their early 20s, were detained early on ‌Sunday after police were alerted by a local farmer about three white vans driving towards RAF Fairford, a British base that houses US bombers that fly missions against Iran.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said in July the base was a legitimate target.

Laurence Taylor, who heads Britain’s counter-terrorism police, said the men, who had been arrested on suspicion of explosives offences and planning a terrorist act, would be released under stringent bail conditions on Monday.

US President Donald Trump told reporters at the White ​House on Monday that the incident “might be” connected to Iran, adding that he would not have released the suspects on bail. “I wouldn’t have done that,” he said.

A source familiar with the ​investigation had told Reuters that an Iranian-linked motive was considered the most likely, although a Russian sabotage operation or an Islamist plot were also being looked at as possibilities.

Iran’s embassy in London had earlier said in a statement it “categorically rejects and strongly condemns the recent unfounded and malicious speculations” that it was involved, which it said would fuel “Iranophobia propaganda” in Britain.

Well, Secretary Rubio isn’t buying it.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Monday that a suspected terror plot thwarted at RAF Fairford in the U.K. over the weekend posed a “very serious threat” and appeared to involve a foreign actor. Five people were arrested and later released on bail.

Rubio also said more information about the incident would emerge in the coming days.

“What could have happened in the UK over the weekend is a very serious situation. It’s one that clearly involves the hands of a foreign actor,” he said on “Hannity” without going into details.

“And that is we are dealing with elements in the world.

“And in the case of Iran, for example, who have openly threatened to attack American interests globally, we’re going to always take that very seriously.

“There’s a lot more news that will come out on this in the days to come, but there’s only so much I can say right now at this point about it, other than this is a very serious thing. And it was — it was responded to appropriately,” he said.

"A lot of people are disturbed by the news some of these people are released on bail."

So, RAF Fairford was highlighted by the IRGC as a target, then magically there’s a terror plot that literally gets stumbled across by a civilian just months later, and we’re supposed to believe that Iran wasn’t involved in this somehow? And just because the arrested suspects are “British nationals” means nothing. As we now know, this is the same country that gave Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh’s bodyguard citizenship. That same man is now under arrest and facing extradition to Germany for plotting terror attacks on Jews there. You’re doing great, Britain!

Rubio also pointed out why Iran is so important in the first place.

“Iran is run by radical Shia clerics with an apocalyptic vision of the future,” Rubio said on “Hannity.”

“They believe that it is their religious calling to trigger the last days of the world and the apocalypse.

“People like that can never possess a nuclear weapon, because they will use it to blackmail the world and to kill people.

“It is an unacceptable risk,” he warned.

Rubio said Tehran is “heading there fast to a cataclysm” as the administration intensifies its sanctions campaign through Operation Economic Outcast.

“At one point, Iran was one of the most prosperous countries in the Middle East before the radical clerics took over.

“So it’s a very sad situation. Their economy now is a cataclysm,” Rubios said.

He also said President Donald Trump had “saved the world a tremendous amount of trouble” by confronting Iran’s nuclear weapons program.

Secretary Rubio is correct that the Iranian economy is currently in a shambles. Yes, oil prices right now are horrific. I would very much like to see the end of the Iranian conflict, and that end is definitely coming as the Strait of Hormuz is seeing shipping and oil move through, while Iran continues to be hemmed in by the blockade. It would be to everyone’s advantage if President Trump could speed up the end of the war, but the president is holding firm that he’s not going to let concerns over the midterms set the timetable in foreign policy.

In the meantime, there needs to be some answers provided in the UK regarding the investigation into the RAF Fairford plot, including what guarantees that those who were released on bail will still be in the country in a week. I don’t think either President Trump or Secretary Rubio are going to be particularly happy if these suspects vanish. Also, are the authorities looking for the rest of this group? I hope that Rubio is right, and that the British are taking this seriously, and more information is forthcoming.
