Muslim Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib Uses Thomas Jefferson’s Quran As A Prop

Rashida Tlaib, one of two Muslim women elected to Congress, attended her swearing in wearing a traditional Palestinian thobe and using Thomas Jefferson’s copy of the Quran to take the oath of office.

But for Tlaib, using the Quran sends an unmistakable message after she and incoming Rep. Ilhan Omar, a Democrat from Minnesota, made history in the 2018 midterms as the first two Muslim women elected to Congress.

“It’s important to me because a lot of Americans have this kind of feeling that Islam is somehow foreign to American history,” Tlaib told The Detroit Free Press. “Muslims were there at the beginning. … Some of our founding fathers knew more about Islam than some members of Congress now.”

Where to begin with this?

The REAL reason that Thomas Jefferson had the Quran was to research Islam given that four Muslim powers had threatened the young United States and were routinely capturing American merchant ships and enslaving the sailors. Furthermore, all four Muslim states (Algiers, Tripoli, Morocco, and Tunis) made it very very clear that their religion – Islam – completely justified the attacks on American merchant ships and sailors.

Jefferson needed to learn more about Islam in order to combat what was happening. That is exactly why he purchased that copy of the Quran.

“Muslims were there at the beginning….” Why yes, yes they were. They were there hijacking our ships, enslaving Americans and threatening death to a brand new country.

But sure, tell me again how Muslims were contributing positively to growing the United States back then. Because they weren’t.

Rashida Tlaib is not only a proud Muslim, she is an avowed Palestinian American.

Today as she was sworn in, this happened at her office.

So Palestine, a country that literally does not exist, has precedence over Israel. That’s just swell. Oh but wait, there’s more. Guess who one of Rashida’s guests was today?

Yes, that’s correct. Israel-hating, Sharia law loving Linda Sarsour was there. With friends like that, it’s a pretty fair bet that when it comes to votes concerning Israel, Rashida Tlaib will vote against that country every single time, even though she supposedly supported a 2-state solution during her campaign. As soon as she won, that support went out the window.

Rashida Tlaib is using Thomas Jefferson’s copy of the Quran as a prop. Sadly, far too many will believe her inference that Jefferson was a friend of Islam. History tells us otherwise, but not enough people will do the bare minimum of research.

Specifically that the Muslim powers demanded that the United States pay a ransom for the ships and sailors. Thomas Jefferson told them to go pound sand and sent the newly minted Marine Corps over in 1801 to rescue Americans held captive and get our ships back.

The ONLY thing that Rashida Tlaib gets right is that Muslims were there at the beginning. The rest of the story is that Muslims had, even then, made it brutally clear that their goal is to wipe the United States off the map.

Thomas Jefferson didn’t bow to their intimidation then, and we shouldn’t let Rashida Tlaib sell us a pig in a poke now.

For a good understanding of Jeffersons actual opinions of islam, read “Jefferson and the Tripoli pirates”.. His owning a copy of the quran is much more a situation of “know your enemies”… There is a reason that the second line of the Marine Corps Hymn reads “To the shores of Tripoli”.. That is our nations true history in relation to islam, and sadly, i think that electing muslims such as this will come back to haunt us. It is a stone age blood cult, with no redeeming qualities whatsoever, and anyoen that associates with farakhan and sarsour is most definitely a racist!

Tlaib’s ignorance, real or feigned, is sadly not unusual among our elected representatives. I despise her disdain for facts, her fealty to Palestine, not the U.S., her association with Sarsour, and her foul mouth. Tlaib does not deserve to be a U.S. representative of any part of our government.

I’m curious as to how she got her grubby paws on such a book that belonged to one of our founding fathers! At no less it should be in a museum!

The two-volume Alcoran of Mohammed (London: Hawes, Clarke, Collins and Wilcox, 1764) is stored in the Library of Congress’ Rare Book and Special Collections Division.

In 2007, Keith Ellison, D-Minnesota, used it as a swearing-in prop.

Rashida is just a potty-mouth ugly porker. Trump needs to remain above the fray. “Never wrestle with a pig, both get dirty, only one enjoys it” .

I don’t have a problem with most of this article, but the headline “prop” claim seems like an own-goal which would offend a reasonable person and make him more likely to support Tlaib. A Muslim using the Koran to take an oath is exactly comparable to, and no more prop-like than, a Christian using the Bible to take an oath.

    • Cloudbuster says:

It became a prop when she used it to make a misleading political point, that “Muslims were there at the beginning.”

  • Ariel says:

I suspect that this is more like what happened to the Temple Mount or the Haggia Sophia than merely use as a prop. This is a way to assert dominance over the Quran that was used by an enemy.

  • Suburbanbanshee says:

Since Muslims officially do not regard any translation of the Quran as being a Quran, Ellison and Tlaib both swore on nothing binding to them.

And since it was in a non-Muslim context, no oath binds them, and taqiyyah permits lying and oathbreaking.

They should have affirmed, if they were being honest. But it was all for show.

1765 was the purchase date for this book. Far more likely a tangential necessity of understanding Ottoman/Arabic law at the time, but the purchase predated the Barbary Wars by some thirty-plus years; more importantly preceding even the concept of the US as a non-British institution by more than a decade. Keep in mind this is the same year the Stamp Act hit the shortly to be States and started riling folks up. Throw in the fact that Ottoman law as indeed a part of international law at the time and the young Jefferson was indeed studying law at the time of the purchase. Then again, given his penchant for rewriting religious tomes, maybe he was looking for a precursor to his later work on the Gospels, lol.

Not unlike her misuse of it as a prop, this article follows suit from the opposite end. This could have been easily rectified with a simple google search of “Jefferson koran site:.gov” before writing.

Lord forbid we hold everyone to the same expectations of having at least passing knowledge of the item at hand as we expect from Dems.
