Media Fibs: Falsely Claims Ted Cruz Blamed “Transgender Leftist Activist” for Colorado Springs Shooting

Once again, the mainstream media—this time the usual suspects being The Hill and Yahoo News—are misrepresenting the facts. In a statement regarding the alleged suspect in the recent, horrendous shootings in Colorado Springs, the two media outlets reported that Texas Senator Ted Cruz said this:

“It was Texas Senator Ted Cruz who took the prize this past weekend for the most outlandish claim regarding the man who opened fire on a Planned Parenthood in Colorado Springs, Colorado that left three dead on Friday.

With details and facts still emerging over the Friday shooting, the junior senator first took the opportunity to denounce the “vicious rhetoric on the left, blaming those who are pro-life” to reporters in Newton, Iowa, the New York Times reported. Cruz, who called the gunman “deranged” also added that shooter Robert Dear was “registered to vote as a woman” adding, “it’s also reported that he was registered as an independent and as a woman and a transgender leftist activist.”

…and this:

Oh, my! Sounds terribly irresponsible and exploitative on Senator Cruz’s part, doesn’t it? Well, it would be. If it were true. Here’s what he actually said:

When a reporter reminded Cruz it has been reported Dear made a comment about “baby parts” while being apprehended, Cruz retorted, “It’s also been reported that he was registered as an independent and a woman and a transgendered leftist activist. If that’s what he is, I don’t think it’s fair to blame on the rhetoric on the left. This is a murderer.”

Cruz’s claim appeared to be based on a voter registration form that lists Dear’s gender as female. “We know that he was a man who was registered to vote as a woman,” Cruz said.

Asked if we could call the shooting an act of domestic terrorism — as former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee has — Cruz again urged caution about drawing conclusions from the shooting at this point.

“I would call it a murder, and we’ll see what the facts are,” Cruz replied. “It was a multiple murder of what appears to be a deranged individual. And it was horrific, it was evil, and we’ll find out more out about the facts, but I don’t think we should jump to conclusions.”

Not to be outdone, HuffPo piled on to the Misinformation Bandwagon, at least in the title to its video. Oh, but listen to what Cruz actually says:

Just a wee bit different than the picture The Hill and Yahoo News painted, wouldn’t you say?

Good question. Or perhaps it’s a competition:

And CNN. And MSNBC.

The mainstream media, alongside many in the GOP establishment, is terrified of the “outsider” candidates, including Ted Cruz, whose poll numbers have recently skyrocketed in Iowa, placing him nearly tied with Donald Trump. As well they should be: His resume puts the Left’s Truth-Challenged Frontrunner/slash/Failed Marine Recruit/slash/Bosnian Sniper Target to shame. For starters:

  • Graduated valedictorian in 1988 from Second Baptist High School
  • Graduated cum laude from Princeton University in 1992
  • Graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law School in 1995
  • 1992 U.S. National Debate Champion representing Princeton
  • 1995 World Debating Championship semi-finalist representing Harvard
  • Served a law clerk to Chief Justice William Rehnquist, making him the first Hispanic ever to clerk for a Chief Justice of the United States
  • Served as Solicitor General of Texas from 2003 to 2008, making him the first Hispanic Solicitor General in Texas, the youngest Solicitor General in the entire country and the longest tenure in Texas history
  • Partner at the law firm Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, where he led the firm’s U.S. Supreme Court and national appellate litigation practice
  • Authored over 80 SCOTUS briefs and presented over 40 oral arguments before The Court

And that vast resume, the rest of which you can read here, doesn’t bode well for a potential match-up between Cruz and Sir Edmond Hillary “The Enthroned One” Clinton, because the words “blood and bath” come to mind when envisioning debates, and a targeted campaign, between the pair. And this blogger would pay good money to watch that wrestling match. Meanwhile, we can expect more of the same from the corrupt media as Cruz continues to gain support. Buckle your seat belts, because the lazy, fact-challenged, propagandist media is just getting started.
