Mamdani Vs. Fetterman: The Democrat Dilemma Of October 7th

Democrats have suffered from split personality disorder when it comes to Israel for a long time now. They can either be the party of Zohran Mamdani, or of John Fetterman. They can’t survive as both.

For a while, Democrats absolutely championed and adored John Fetterman. After he had his stroke during the 2022 Pennsylvania U.S. Senate race, the Democrats and the media (but I repeat myself) ran cover for candidate Fetterman, giving him glowing coverage and maximum accommodations to get him through the election. Their assumption must have been that Gisele, Fetterman’s wife, would “help” John with his senatorial duties (this was admitted on stage by none other by Joe Biden himself, who told Gisele that she would be “a great lady in the Senate.”) When Fetterman checked himself into Walter Reed to deal with depression, this was seen by Democrats as an act of bravery – and conveniently, his staff kept running things while he was in the hospital.

Then, October 7, 2023 happened. John Fetterman, with no prompting from Democrat leadership, spoke out boldly for Israel and her right to defend herself against Hamas. He openly championed the hostages, even when the rest of the party wanted to forget about them. This tweet is still pinned to the top of the senator’s feed.

His steadfast support for Israel has given the Democrats heartburn, especially as the Democrat base has become increasingly more obnoxiously radical. Not that Fetterman minded in the least.

To this day, Senator John Fetterman remains the most consistent Democrat voice in the Senate calling for an end to Hamas and the return of the hostages. He has promoted the peace deal that President Trump has pushed, pointing out that all those protesters who say they want peace should be supporting it as well. And today, on the second anniversary of the massacre on October 7th, Fetterman is out there again, supporting Israel, condeming Hamas, and demanding the return of the hostages.

However, John Fetterman’s voice has been largely ignored by the base. They want the hot new thing – the communism-lite promises of Democrat Socialist Zohran Mamdani, who stands poised to be New York City’s next mayor. Because Mamdani has little to no support from the Orthodox Jewish communities of New York City, he put out a statement on X regarding October 7th that reveals how he truly thinks. It’s disgusting.

Mayoral front-runner Zohran Mamdani chose the second anniversary of Hamas’ brutal Oct. 7 attack to blast Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the Israeli government for launching a “genocidal war” in Gaza.

Mamdani also argued the United States “has been complicit through it all,” in a statement he posted to his X account.

The left-wing Democratic nominee found some space to condemn Hamas for carrying out “a horrific war crime” that killed 1,200 Israelis and said he prays for the return of hostages still held in the Palestinian enclave.

“In the aftermath of that day, Prime Minister Netanyahu and the Israeli government launched a genocidal war,” he said while adding that 67,000 people have been killed – a figure used by the Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza.

“Every day in Gaza has become a place where grief itself has run out of language,” he also said.

“I mourn these lives and pray for the families that have been shattered. Our government has been complicit through it all.”

“These last two years have demonstrated the very worst of humanity,” the 33-year-old pol said, adding a peace deal needs to be reached “through diplomacy, not war crimes.”

Funny, I looked through Mamdani’s X account and I don’t see any posts telling Hamas to accept the peace deal. I did find posts complaining that Israel had stopped Greta Thunberg’s aid-free flotilla party, and one regarding what Palestinian New Yorkers have “suffered” because of the war.

The Mamdani statement is not going over well outside of his radical base.

The remarks were quickly blasted by numerous supporters of Israel, including Matthew Schweber, a member of Columbia University’s Jewish Alumni Association.

“There is no moral equivalence between Hamas and Israel. That statement shows he’s unfit to mayor of New York City,” he told The Post.

“It resorts to classic blood libel by describing Israel as an apartheid state. It’s reminiscent of the blood libel against the Jewish people for centuries that incites violent pogroms.”

Former city Councilman and Jewish activist Rory Lancman also assailed Mamdani for Tuesday’s statement.

“Two years ago, as Jewish bodies were still smoldering and Jewish rape victims were still being identified, Zohran Mamdani attacked Israel for existing, without even mentioning Hamas or its atrocities; today, two years later, as dozens of Jews remain prisoners of Hamas, Zohran Mamdani attacks Israel for continuing to exist,” he said in a statement to The Post.

The reality is, the Democrats are not truly divided when it comes to Israel. The vast majority of Democrats, elected and voters, are on the side of Zohran Mamdani. Voices like Senator John Fetterman, or New York Representative Ritchie Torres, have been drowned out within the Democrat Party. The base has become radicalized, and will not tolerate dissent. All you need to know that is to look at the responses to Fetterman and Torres on X, where many of the comments thank them, but too many are vile and accuse them of being “bought” by Israel.

Like it or not, Zohran Mamdani, should he become mayor, will be the de facto head of the Democrats for the time being. The radical base will get even louder. The cowards who are currently in leadership, like Chuck Schumer, are desperately afraid of being primaried to their left, so they will pat the radical base on the head in hopes of being eaten last. That will not save them. The base has become intolerant and demands violence. I would ask Democrat voters what they think, but we already know. They are choosing Mamdani, his promises of bread at the end of a bread line, and his loathing of Israel over elected officials like John Fetterman and Ritchie Torres. How much longer will the Democrat Party be able to tolerate the moderates, or those who support Israel, among their ranks? If the impending election of Mamdani means anything, it means the radicals will be attempting to shove out the moderates as quickly as possible.

The Israelis are very efficient and competent, and if they truly decided to “genocide” the “Palestinians “ there wouldn’t be one “Palestinian” alive between there and Dearborn. And they’d be picking those off daily. I am beyond amazed at the stupidity and gullibility of our “elite “ cohort. But maybe the word genocide, like fascist, Nazi, Hitler etc. has no meaning or usefulness other than as a lazy substitute for thought.
