Shocking news broke over the X-sphere early this morning, as the office of Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) announced his sudden and unexpected death.
All the official announcement confirmed was the senator’s passing after a “brief illness” on Saturday evening.

The news caught literally everyone by surprise, as Lindsey Graham was currently running for re-election to the Senate, and had already won his primary. The question of “what happens next” is certainly on people’s minds as they process this sudden death. According to South Carolina state law, the governor will appoint a temporary replacement – the current governor is Henry McMaster, a Republican. Who the governor appoints may certainly have a leg up in a general election, but the governor may choose to not appoint anyone who would run to keep the office. The chaos that we are currently seeing in Maine for Democrats, may be thrust upon Republicans in South Carolina by no fault of their own. The state law would suggest that another primary could be held since ballots have not yet been printed, but obviously this will be rushed and quite a sad process.
NBC News reported that Graham had just returned from Ukraine, and paramedics were called to his residence.
Emergency personnel responded to a call for “cardiac arrest” at Graham’s Capitol Hill home on Saturday night, according to police scanner audio obtained by NBC News.
Photographs reviewed by NBC News show that paramedics carried a person on a stretcher from Graham’s home to an awaiting ambulance. Police cars and fire trucks were also on site.
Graham was fresh off a trip to Kyiv, Ukraine, where he met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday. He had been scheduled to appear on NBC News’ “Meet the Press” on Sunday.
While most Americans were asleep when the news broke, other parts of the world were wide awake. Lindsey Graham had long been a champion of the state of Israel, and that country’s officials began paying their respects almost immediately.
Today, Israel has lost one of its greatest friends.
Senator Lindsey Graham stood with Israel not because it was easy, but because he believed it was right. His unwavering support, courage, and moral clarity earned him the admiration of millions of Israelis.

And President Trump released a statement on Truth Social.

Lindsey Graham had a long career as a military lawyer before being elected, according to his own official biography.
Before being elected to Congress, Graham compiled a distinguished record in the United States Air Force as he logged six-and-a-half years of service on active duty as an Air Force lawyer. From 1984-1988, he was assigned overseas and served at Rhein-Main Air Force Base in Germany. Upon leaving active duty Air Force in 1989, Graham joined the South Carolina Air National Guard where he served until 1995. During the first Gulf War in the early 90’s, Graham was called to active duty and served state-side at McEntire Air National Guard Base as Staff Judge Advocate where he prepared members for deployment to the Gulf region.
In 1995, Graham joined the U.S. Air Force Reserves. During American military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, Graham put his experience in military law to use pulling numerous short-term Reserve duties in both countries over congressional breaks and holidays.
Graham retired from the Air Force Reserves in June 2015 having served his country in uniform for 33 years. He retired at the rank of Colonel.
The senator had no children of his own, but raised his younger sister Darline after the death of their parents. His sister’s grief at this moment must be immense, and we here at Victory Girls send her and her family our condolences.
