I love Donald Trump and I am giddy that he got reelected. I am not in a cult so someone is going someone is going to have to help me out with this. President-elect-again Trump has named South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem as Secretary for the Department of Homeland Security. He usually has great instincts for people and what he is trying to accomplish for each position. Usually, not always. But, come on, does DHS need an animal assassin?
I love Trump’s choices for his Administration up to this point. With Zeldin, Stefanik, Homan, Waltz and Rubio picked competent managers who will execute his vision. Each pick demonstrated that he/she could handle a hostile television interview without damaging the brand and was a cheerful, competent warrior. But, Kristi Noem? After the animal assassination revelations, she was off the campaign trail. But here we are.
Salon is a douche rag, still here is the headline from today: “Trump selects Kristi Noem, governor who shot and killed her dog, to lead Homeland Security”
From the article:
resident-elect Donald Trump has chosen South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem as his secretary for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), CNN reported Tuesday.
Noem, who was at one point up for consideration to be Trump’s running mate, will head the agency responsible for everything from deportations to natural disaster relief efforts. The DHS has a $60.4 billion budget and oversees thousands of employees, including those with the U.S. Secret Service.
snip–
The South Dakota governor has long been an immigration hardliner. Throughout President Joe Biden’s term, Noem maintained that her state “won’t be taking any illegal immigrants.”
“My message to illegal immigrants… call me when you’re an American,” she wrote in a post on X in 2021.
That part is not upsetting to Trump voters. This next is:
Noem has had a tumultuous year, facing immense amount of backlash for revealing in her memoir that she killed her 14-month-old puppy, later claiming it was a danger to her children. The admission horrified the media and politicians on both sides of the spectrum, spurring Noem’s unpopularity and likely damaging her standing as a vice presidential candidate.
It wasn’t just the puppy killing. From the National Post:
Noem writes that efforts to calm the dog had been unsuccessful and it had a history of aggressive behaviour, including attacking pheasants, chickens and biting her. Rather than training or rehoming the animal, though, she opted to shoot it.
“As I explained in the book, it wasn’t easy,” she said on X. “But often the easy way isn’t the right way.”
Now a second story involving the death of an animal is also attracting attention.
Noem reportedly shot and killed a male goat that had butted her children and had a “disgusting, musky, rancid” smell, reports The Daily Beast.
Noem, who was raised on a farm, reportedly shot the goat with a shotgun, requiring multiple shells to complete the task.
So she is cruel and incompetent as an animal assassin. There are other issues too.
My issue with Kristi Noem to serve as Trump’s Homeland security secretary, is her catering to the radicals climate alarmists selling her constituents out, all due to her donor relationship with Summit Carbon Solutions, who thus far, has conned nover 80% of North Dakota landowners… https://t.co/RjDnOaoR3a pic.twitter.com/Lj9ZpmJksy

Coming after raging incompetent Alejandro Mayorkas this is going to be a tough job.
I wonder what the reason was for Trump to pick Kristi Noem for Homeland Security Secretary?
She's clearly better than Alejandro Mayorkas but the Secretary is responsible for Secret Service, the Border, and Fema.
Do you think she can handle all that? https://t.co/28LsD7UgJq

No. It’s a headscratcher!
No gravitas but she does have nice silk nail wraps and perfect hair extensions. Sorry, not sorry. I just don’t get having Kristi Noem in an Administration. The fireworks at Mt. Rushmore were awesome, but is it worth a cabinet position? No.

No
No more participation trophies.
“does DHS need an animal assassin?”
I’d say that your remark indicates a lack of familiarity with dogs that live in/near wild areas. When a dog starts becoming aggressive with people your choice is to hope for the best and that when (not if) it gets to the point where it attacks someone that the injuries are minor, or make the tough choice and put it down before it does so.
I’d suggest rephrasing your question: Does DHS need someone who will make the hard choices, even if that exposes her to ridicule by people who may be ignorant of the facts on the ground?
I’ve owned dogs all my life and love them. But, sometimes life gives you hard choices.
You just can’t train that kind of aggression out of a dog. If it’s biting people, killing livestock, there’s only one option unfortunately. Her mistake was publicizing it. The average person doesn’t understand it.
Look at it this way: Homeland Security requires someone tough. Noem has shown she will shoot the dog. That demonstrates a degree of toughness.
The ill-mannered dogs in DHS are on notice!
Perhaps our new president picked her because of her vision for South Dakota and the policies she has implemented!
