If we only select perfect men and women for positions of honor in our society, we will be sh*t out of luck. We are a fallen people, but then, that is part of our charm. As part of his Donald Trump 2.0 Administration, Trump has nominated Herschel Walker to be the Ambassador to The Bahamas. And, let’s not forget about Kimberly Guilfoyle as Ambassador to Greece. Yowza. Is this some weird Trumpian thing or is this standard operating procedure?
Ambassadorships have always been one of the rewards Presidents of the United States have given out to their friends as a reward for bundling donations and general loyalty during campaigns. That’s how Joseph P. Kennedy (father of JFK and RFK) became Ambassador to Great Britain. Former child star Shirley Temple Black was Ambassador to Ghana and then Czechoslovakia under Democrat and Republican Presidents. My husband’s personal favorite Ambassador was Sargent Shriver (brother in law to JFK and RFK and father to Maria Shriver. Under Lyndon Johnson and Richard Nixon, Shriver was Ambassador to France. Later he was helping campaign as Veep to George McGovern. It’s his Courvoisier moment:
Then there was his “Courvoisier moment”. At a bar in Youngstown, Ohio, where some steelworkers were having a drink, he walked in with then Democratic Speaker Tip O’Neill, and ordered them a beer before asking the bartender for a brandy. Thus did “Make mine a Courvoisier” enter America’s political playbook for winning the blue collar vote.
Can you imagine a politician says “A round of beers on the house, I’m buying. Make mine a Courvoisier.” It was more honest than most of them today.
As to the Trump nominations, Kimberly Guilfoyle as Ambassador to Greece is fine. She worked tirelessly during the campaign and will do fine. Guilfoyle and Don Jr. broke up ages ago but kept it quiet. This gets Guilfoyle out of the country to Don Jr. can work his new relationship.
As to Herschel Walker and the Ambassadorship to The Bahamas. That is a lovely reward to a loyal friend. Trump first met Walker in the 1980’s when Walker played for Trump’s New Jersey Generals. Last most of us heard of Herschel Walker was when he lost a Senate seat to that abortion loving reprobate Raphael Warnock. Warnock is a bad idea of a Christian Pastor:

In announcing Walker as Trump’s Bahamas pick, Newsweek had to be snarky:
Former NFL player and one-time Georgia Senate candidate Herschel Walker has been nominated by Donald Trump to be ambassador to the Bahamas—however, his new role is a downgrade from the role Trump previously suggested for him.
Walkers’s appointment as ambassador to the Bahamas was announced by Trump on social media on Tuesday night.
His appointment comes after Trump previously told supporters at a rally in Georgia in April that he wanted to put Herschel in charge of a new missile defense shield if elected.
Trump praised Walker on Truth Social on Tuesday: “Herschel has spent decades serving as an Ambassador to our Nation’s youth, our men and women in the Military, and athletes at home and abroad,” Trump posted on Truth Social.
“Walker will “make Georgia, and our entire Nation, proud, because we know you will always put AMERICA FIRST!” he added.
Hershel Walker has never bragged about being a perfect man. On the contrary, his troubles and fracas with women are infamous. For the last decade Walker has traveled to military bases preaching that “There is no shame in getting help, I did”:
Heisman Trophy winner and former running back, Herschel Walker, talked about his experience with mental health when visiting the 97th Air Mobility Wing, Feb. 12, 2020. While here, he was able to host two talking sessions highlighting mental health through the Patriot Support Program.
“I had always wanted to be a Marine growing up, but at a literal coin toss I decided to pursue college football,” said Walker. “I still have a great respect for the military though, they are some of the greatest people I have ever met. The sacrifices they make are unmeasurable and I appreciate any opportunity to help the military in any way I can. If even only one or two people go seek help after hearing what I have to say, that is more than enough of a reward for doing all of this.”
The Patriot Support Program promotes an anti-stigma campaign in partnership with Walker to encourage service members to seek help for mental health and substance abuse issues. Walker has made 300 visits to military installations since partnering with Patriot Support Program in 2008.
After Walker’s football career, his family noticed he struggled with anger management. It took years for him to act on his family’s concerns and eventually visited a doctor who diagnosed him with dissociative identity disorder (DID). Walker admits that it took him a while to recognize he needed additional help.
“After I got help it was a feeling that no other person could give you,” said Walker. “When you are struggling, it’s like you are imprisoned and there is no freedom or joy to be found. Being able to set myself free was a weight lifting experience and I hope others have faith to do the same.”
Walker visits military installations to share his personal story and experience with mental illness while delivering his important message to the troops, “There is no shame in getting help, I did.”
For this alone, I have a heart for Herschel Walker. But there is more. Mr. Walker gave my husband, a Tennessee Vol, a moment of pure joy:
Herschel Walker only spent three years as UGA. He didn’t graduate then. He has now:
Over 40 years later, Herschel Walker is officially a graduate of the University of Georgia!

I believe the nadir was Obama’s nominee to Norway, who thought the ruling party was a fringe group. Talk about not doing any homework.
I’ve got no problem woith this.
It’s not like the Bahamas is a key to US national security. It seems that Trump is rewarding his failed midterm picks. Dr. Oz was appointed to a position for which he is qualified and although Kari Lake is an airhead she is a professional news reader.
when Walker played for Trump’s New Jersey Generals
That explains how his life went downhill to the point of being a politician. I didn’t realize he had a career after the Cowboys.
The mainstream media usually ignores ambassadorships, unless it’s someone beloved by them.
I just hope Trump gives him the Kissinger Test and he passes. That’s the most important quality an ambassador can have: understanding who he represents and works for.
Hoorah Herschel.
