Hacker Group Anonymous “Outs” Prominent KKK Members (Allegedly)

The hacktivist group Anonymous has “outed” quite a few prominent politicians as members of the KKK and is threatening to out quite a few more. Although some of the more progressive sites, such as Democratic Underground, are bleating that Republicans are outed as members of the KKK, Democrats are being called out, too.

The UK Telegraph has reported that Anonymous is threatening to release thousands of names of prominent Americans in an operation it is calling “Hoods Off”. Because, as we all know, the KKK members wear white sheets and pointed hoods. According to a statement by Anonymous, as reported in the Telegraph:

“You are more than extremists. You are more than a hate group. You operate much more like terrorists and you should be recognised as such,” the group said in the press release.

Well, the above description could be used for Anonymous also. The hackers break into systems, steal information and threaten us all with the information. Hmmmmmm?

Dan Abrams’ Mediaite is reporting that sites such as Daily Kos, Huffington Post and USA Today are reporting about the Republicans, there are Democrats too. Mediaite states:

The more careful outlets merely passed along the accusation without naming names, the less savory ones seemed honestly sold on the notion that four Republican senators are members of the KKK.

And if you believe that, I’ve got a bridge to sell you.

Also according to Mediaite, there are dueling Anonymous groups. One group is saying the Tweet is illegitimate and that they don’t release information defaming the innocent.

Two city mayors caught up in the KKK contretemps are the mayors of Lexington, Kentucky and Knoxville, Tennessee. Interestingly, both of these mayors are Democrats and both worship at the altar of every progressive trope there is. Not only is Lexington Mayor Jim Gray a Democrat, but he came out as a gay man a decade ago. Knoxville Mayor Madeline Rogero, is a female democrat and, according to a People.com headline:

“Mayor Listed as Alleged ‘Secret’ KKK Member on Hacked List Says She Can’t Possibly Be a Racist: I Have an Interracial Family”

Mayor Madeline Rogero, is a female Democrat, who worked for Caesar Chavez, supports LGBT everything and has an “interracial family”. If she is in the KKK, she is a deep cover, triple agent Mayor or something. I am not a fan of Mayor Rogero’s, to say the least, but she is not a member of the KKK.

Four of the five Mayors named by Anonymous have now issued statements. They all deny that they are members of the KKK. Really. Does anyone in their right mind believe that some political challenger’s opposition research wouldn’t have found this out a long time ago. Stretches credulity beyond the breaking point.

The KKK is an irrelevant hate group whose time was up before it started. None of the people named are members of the KKK, I’ll wager.

Toni, you could have reported the basis for “Anonymous”s claim. That might give some way to measure their credibility.
You left out the “How” in “Who, What, When, Where, How, and Why.”

It appears they are conflating following a Twitter account with membership in the KKK. That seems spurious at best. (Sort of like claiming that every person who reads the NY Times must be a card-carrying communist. That would actually be less of a stretch.)
