Donald Trump is a YUUGE fan of our veterans and our military! He’s said so multiple times!! So when asked about the G.I. Bill and if he’d support the bill the way it is or make it better, he was on board with that 100%!! RIGHT?

Lets go to the transcript:

CHRIS CUOMO: We tried to get your campaign and the other campaigns to hold forth or whether or not they supported the current GI bill. In congress, a sneaky vote in the house — no roll call – is going to cut money from the GI bill to allow for other expenditures for vets. Vets were upset. “No, don’t take money from us and reallocate it. Find the savings elsewhere.” Do you support maintaining the GI bill the way it is and growing it instead of cutting it?

DONALD TRUMP: I don’t want to hurt our vets. We treat illegal immigrants better than our vets. I’m going to help the vets. I’m going to only help them. — unlike Hillary Clinton who thinks the vets are getting too much? They’re not. I’ve traveled, seen so many vets I know so many vets now and have a lot of friends. I have developed great friendships among the vets. Our vets are —

CHRIS CUOMO: Is that a yes, “I do support the current GI bill?”

DONALD TRUMP: No. I want to bring jobs back to our country and make the country grow again. I just traveled. I won so many states in a row in massive landslides and part of the reason was trade. Not what you brought up at the beginning of the show, totally inappropriate. Part of the reason I won was because of trade and I talk trade and I’m the only one that can do anything about trade.

Wait what? Can we say SQUIRREL??!!

Here’s the deal Donald… the G.I Bill has NOTHING to do with whatever the heck you decided to blather on about regarding trade. It has to do with providing funds to our veterans who want to further their education and/or training in a field of their choosing so they can GET. A. JOB. The original G.I. Bill, which came into being after World War II was instrumental in putting college degrees into the hands of our veterans, college degrees that opened more doors to more jobs for them.

The post 9/11 G.I Bill does the same. Hundreds of our veterans returning from war in Iraq and Afghanistan have utilized the G.I. Bill to go to or finish college. Hundreds of them have gone to technical schools around the country to receive training as welders, truck drivers, plumbers, electricians, and more.

Jobs. Donald. Jobs. Right here in the United States.

Donald, let me tell you something. The G.I. Bill needs our support. Keeping it intact, making Congress find the savings elsewhere, helping our veterans get a step up into this country’s workforce, and forcing the VA step up support of our veterans with this program is what you should be talking about. But instead you do a SQUIRREL! pivot to trade?

What this tells me is that:

A. You have no clue what the G.I. Bill is.

B. Never mind the fact that you supposedly have lots of veteran “friends” you obviously haven’t listened to them or even bothered to ask for their advice or opinions on the things that matter to them, INCLUDING the G.I. Bill!

C. The G.I. Bill is part of the compact we as a country have made to our veterans who’ve put their lives on the line for us time and time again. If you’d even done one iota of research you’d understand that and support the bill.

Donald, if you want to be Commander in Chief and have the respect and support of our military and veterans…you are going to have to do better than this. Because right now your track record indicates that you could care less about our veterans. And that’s just SAD!
