Cory Spartacus Booker is worried that Robert Francis’ gun grabbing rhetoric is just too much like icky Republican fearmongering.
Make no mistake, though, Cory still wants your guns. He just wants to confiscate them quietly, gently, lovingly — without all the rhetoric that might startle the bitter clinger rubes.
“I hate when Democrats use the language that Republicans try to use to scare people away as opposed to the sort of pragmatism and practicality of this,” the New Jersey senator said during an interview with CNN. “We’ve seen around this world, countries that have said enough of these assault rifles. They dealt with the problem that got them off of their streets. These weapons should not be in this country.” […]
“You have to set up a system. Yeah, that is mandatory,” Booker said, explaining that he would ban assault-style weapons using the 1986 National Firearms Act as a model. “You have to set up a system to pull them off. But this idea, this imagery that the fear-mongers and demagogues try to say of somehow armed police officers showing up and confiscating weapons, that’s the fear-mongering.”
Hell yes, we're gonna take your AR-15.

What imagery are normal citizens supposed to conjure up when faced with a law that makes them criminals overnight for possessing property they legally purchased? Is Cory incapable of reading up on the latest Western country trying to outlaw their citizens’ choice of self-defense?
New Zealand’s government—which also stepped up censorship and domestic surveillance after bloody attacks on two Christchurch mosques earlier this year—is running into stiff resistance to new gun rules from firearms owners who are slow to surrender now-prohibited weapons and will probably never turn them in. […]
As of last week, only around 700 weapons had been turned over. There are an estimated 1.5 million guns—with an unknown number subject to the new prohibition on semiautomatic firearms—in the country overall.
New Zealand is an island nation with only about 5 million people. Area wise, you could drop it into California with room to spare. I’ve never heard or read that it is a nation of scofflaws, either. And yet, only 700 firearms of the estimated 1.5 million guns in that nation were voluntarily turned over. In the United States, 43% of the households in the nation own at least one gun. If New Zealand is any example, voluntary compliance with the Democrats’ attempt to negate the Second Amendment via Congress will be next to nil.
I actually don’t believe Cory is this stupid. He’s just playing good cop to Robert Francis’ bad cop. He wants to soften the rhetoric but not dispute it. Cory just wants us all to get along, submit to our betters and join the Love Train.
Kumbya!

They can have my gun. Only barrel first.
We’ve seen around this world, countries that have said enough of these assault rifles. They dealt with the problem that got them off of their streets.
Really, Departicus? WHERE?
I know of not a single nation that allowed them in the first place – they all banned personal firearms long before “assault weapons” became a thing. (That means “before inexpensive, semi-automatic, lightweight, medium-caliber rifles came along.”)
he would ban assault-style weapons using the 1986 National Firearms Act as a model
Hmmmm, interesting, since that is 1) a great example of the “slippery slope” and 2) relied on the 1934 NFA which registered all automatic weapons (and other stuff). So, how are you going to simply bolt-on semi-autos to that?
will probably never turn them in.
Yep. Which means they are now lying there, waiting. And, when the gov’t goes too far in suppressing its people’s rights, people will say, “Oh yeah, I remember grandpa buried something out back that might be useful for this…”.
If New Zealand is any example
Heck, don’t have to go that far. Citizens in Connecticut refused to register their “assault rifles”, and more refused to turn them in when they failed registration. (They failed to register by a certain date.) NY citizens also failed to register their “assault rifles” in job lots. The estimated number who complied with those registrations is <20% for Connecticut and <3% for NY.
These tyrants really do not grasp why they got Trump in 2016. The peasants are revolting. They tried the soap box and jury box for ages. In late 2016 they used the ballot box. If that fails to get the wannabe-tyrants off our back, the cartridge box will be the only option. And free citizens everywhere are keeping their powder dry for that eventuality.
Let them come, lovingly, to take them. There are many here who will – lovingly, of course, and with the utmost loving care – shoot back.
The math is easy. If the same percentage of people would voluntarily turn in their ARs here, the authorities can expect about 7,000 out of 15,000,000. And that assumes the Americans are no more attached to their firearms than Kiwis are.
Cory, Beto, please, feel free to come get my AR. I’ll be waiting in the front yard, unarmed. If you two have the balls to face me and win, you can have my AR. Until that happens, fuck off.
