Clarence Thomas, National Treasure, Praises Declaration

Clarence Thomas, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, gave a speech at the University of Texas at Austin. In the speech, he praised our Founding Fathers and the Declaration of Independence and sharply criticized Progressivism and those who are enamored of it.

“The greatest calamity which could befall us would be submission to a government of unlimited powers.”

Thomas Jefferson

Those who criticize Thomas see him as a Black Man who does not support HIS community. Clarence Thomas sees himself as a “man in full”. He is the end result of spirit, freedom and rigorous intellectual pursuit. There are those of us who see Justice Thomas as a National Treasure.

Breitbart.com reported on the speech this way:

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas used a speech at the University of Texas at Austin School of Law on Thursday to contend that progressivism has increasingly conflicted with the principles of the Declaration of Independence, telling students that the movement cannot permanently coexist with the founding ideals of natural rights and limited government.

Thomas, 77, was speaking at the University of Texas at Austin School of Law, commemorating the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. The justice, who was appointed by Republican President George H.W. Bush in 1991, is the longest-serving current member of the Supreme Court and the second-longest-serving justice in the Court’s history.

Justice Clarence Thomas: Progressivism, Declaration of Independence Cannot ‘Coexist Forever’

During the address, Thomas traced the rise of progressivism in the American mainstream to the beginning of the 20th century and identified President Woodrow Wilson as its most prominent advocate.

Thomas said progressivism had “made many inroads into our system of government and our way of life” since Wilson’s presidency and asserted that it stood in opposition to the Declaration.

“It has coexisted uneasily with the principles of the Declaration because it is opposed to those principles,” Thomas stated. “It is not possible for the two to coexist forever.”

Woodrow Wilson (Bah!) was a racist, America-hating jerk. He opposed suffrage and was for segregation. He was much like today’s Progressives and Elites.

More from Breitbart:

Thomas maintained that Wilson and other progressive thinkers believed that “America needed to leave behind the principles of the founding and catch up with the more advanced and sophisticated system of relatively unimpeded state power, nearly perfect, perfected.”

“Progressivism seeks to replace the basic premises of the Declaration of Independence and hence our form of government,” Thomas explained. “It holds that our rights and our dignities come not from God, but from government.”

Quoting Coolidge, Thomas said: “If all men are created equal, that is final. If they are endowed with unalienable rights, that is final. If governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed, that is final.”

Thomas argued that Wilson’s distrust of popular government reflected his preference for European-style systems of centralized state power. According to Thomas, Wilson described Americans as “selfish, ignorant, timid, stubborn and foolish,” complained that they did “too much by vote and too little by expert rule,” and praised Germany because its people were “docile and acquiescent.”

Wilson saw us as “selfish, ignorant, timid, stubborn and foolish,” complained that they did “too much by vote and too little by expert rule,” and praised Germany because its people were “docile and acquiescent.”

I would say that Clarence Thomas has Woodrow Wilson and all Progressives down perfectly. I don’t want to be anything like Europe with expert rule (Remember the Pandemic?).

Of course, this pusillanimous pisher, Charles P. Pierce sees it differently in “Clarence Thomas Wouldn’t Know What Progressivism Was If It Smacked Him on the Head”. Mr. Pisher Pierce then hurls invectives at Justice Thomas without proving his title point.

On the other hand, Mr. Charles Stimson of Fox earns gold starts across the board for “Clarence Thomas warns America: Liberty dies when we choose comfort over courage”:

Americans will hear a lot of speeches this year marking the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, but it’s hard to imagine anyone topping the one Justice Clarence Thomas delivered at the University of Texas at Austin. If one is inclined to believe that the majesty of our founding documents, and the ideals enshrined therein, still resonate in the hearts of Americans, then Justice Thomas’s speech was a clarion call to conscience, a summons to the courage and clarity that animated the American Revolution.

Amen! Yes, these ideals still resonate and must still be taught. More:

Thomas’s reverence for the Declaration of Independence was palpable, as he recounted the audacity of Jefferson’s assertion that “all men are created equal.” He reminded his audience that the Declaration is not a relic — an obscure, esoteric, academic plaything to be admired from afar — but a living testament to the capacity of men and women to transcend the ordinary. Its words, Thomas insisted, are an invitation to courage, echoing across centuries to challenge each new generation to defy tyranny and embrace liberty.

Be still my pounding heart. What a great writer and thinker Clarence Thomas is. How blessed we are to have this National Treasure.
