Abdul El-Sayed has figured out what’s wrong with America. We need more Egypt. The country Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed hopes to help govern from the United States Senate is once again coming up short, and this time our deficiency is community.

During a podcast interview last year, Abdul Mohamed was asked what Americans could learn form life “back home,” meaning Egypt, where he spent extended periods with his father’s family growing up.

His answer was “community.” American life, he says, has become deeply atomized, while in Egypt you’re constantly enveloped in other people’s humanity.

Community?

You mean as in the Christian values and traditions that have helped hold American communities together for generations? Or are those supposed to make way for something else? Islamic traditions? Sharia Law?

Because if Abdulraham Mohamed wants to lecture America about the kind of community we’re missing, then I’d like him to be very specific about what he thinks should replace what we already have.

Especially since this guy sure seems to have a problem with a lot of what we already have.

What DO You Like, Abdul?

El-Sayed has said America has racism baked into its foundation. He believes that toxic masculinity is at the heart of America’s most popular sport. He suggested we find another way to celebrate the Fourth of July.

This is the playbook: convince Americans that their own values and traditions are something to apologize for, then graciously offer to replace them.

Oh say can you see…no fireworks or football? Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed’s (D) past views on iconic aspects of American life might make some voters take note.

The progressive candidate, who narrowly won his Aug. 4 primary over Rep. Haley Stevens (D-MI) to face Republican Mike Rogers in November, was caught hating on ultra-American things like fireworks, the Second Amendment and even — gasp! — football in old YouTube videos.

The clips, some of which have since been deleted, were reported by CNN’s K-File.

In one now-deleted July 2024 video, El-Sayed, 41, says, “Fireworks suck!” and pleads with viewers to find another way to celebrate July 4th.

The clip offered multiple reasons “why fireworks suck,” including air quality, the chemicals in the explosive celebrations, the risks to kids and pets, and the potential for the noisy fireworks to impact veterans and others struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder.

Another video shows El-Sayed claiming the southern border, a repeated talking point for Republicans during President Joe Biden’s term, was not a top concern for Americans, while another now-removed clip had the candidate musing about replacing the Second Amendment.

And then there’s Michigan itself: El-Sayed has called himself a Michigan man, which is interesting considering he also says he hates Mackinac Island.

At some point I have to ask, Abdul, what exactly do you like about this place? Then again, maybe that’s the point. He seems to find an awful lot about America that needs fixing while having an awful lot of admiration for what his Islamic faith and Egyptian culture have to offer in its place.

This man’s smugness and arrogance hang in the air like August humidity in Alabama. He has that irritating habit of talking like he’s the smartest person in the room and the rest of us should be grateful for the lecture.

Good Lord, Abdul. We get it. America disappoints you.

America’s foundations are racist, football is toxic, Fourth of July fireworks suck, Mackinac Island is apparently terrible, and now America needs to take some notes from Egypt on how to do community properly.

Got it.

And don’t even get me started on Abdul’s strange obsession with Usha Vance.

Then there’s this little gem. In a conversation with Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar and Adam Hamawy, El-Sayed talked about the “virtues in our faith,” meaning Islam, and how his faith shapes his life. Tlaib went even further, saying she loves that they get to “expose our faith through public service.”

Whoa, whoa, whoa. “Expose our faith through public service”? Well, that certainly makes me even more curious about the “community” El-Sayed thinks America is missing.

Mike Rogers Better Have A Good Game

And Mike Rogers damn well better be paying attention.

El-Sayed has already done half the work for him. America has racism baked into its foundation. Football is toxic. Fireworks suck. Mackinac Island sucks. We’re doing “community” wrong and apparently Egypt has something to teach us.

Good grief, Mike. Pick up the ball and run with it. Their first debate is set for the beginning of October.

Make El-Sayed own all of it, because these aren’t Republican talking points somebody cooked up in a back room. They’re his words. His opinions. His view of America. Do not be afraid to point your finger right at him.

Mike Rogers has to have a good game here. Hell, the plays are practically being called for him.

Because Abdulraham Mohamed El-Sayed is selling community to an America he can’t seem to stop criticizing. And if he wins, we’ll have to take a scalpel to the map and remove Michigan like a pus-filled cancerous sore before whatever this is spreads south.

Michigan, don’t buy the damn snake oil.
